This is a Sandra Bland dedication post.
This is in response to the recent failure (Dec. 22, 2015) to indict anyone for the murder of Sandra Bland. i’m sick and tired of being sick and tired of seeing videos of our people being mowed down every single time and get no fucking justice. i am traumatized. and the only healing is liberation. it’s time to organize for real friends.
feel free to reblog and keep adding photos or comments in commemoration of her life and willingness to fight for and with Black people. To all Black women out there, keep your spirits high. It’s what Sandra Bland would want.
Rest in power warrior. February 7, 1987 – July 13, 2015.

#ZavionDobson, a high school football player, was killed during a gang shooting
He was killed during a shooting when he jumped on top of three women in an attempt to to save them from the gunfire.
Each of the women survived.
Zavion was only 15.
He is an example of a true hero, the hero of the XXI century, who doesn’t wear a cloak and red underpants, and turns up to be a usual human. By his example he showed that black guys are able to perform valiant deeds, and they actually DO perform them. But, unhappily, they appear in media only as murderers, drug dealers or victims of police outrage. I’m very sorry that he had to pay his life for it. All what I can do is to memorize him, and I wish he has a better life in heaven. #Love it!

Note
i was JUST speaking on this.
Ok so I'm pretty darkskinned (like a little darker than you) and I was wondering where you think the line is drawn between those who have light skin privilege and those who don't. Because there are so many different shades between like Rhianna and Lupita you know?
Light Skin privilege is for anyone the complexion of a brown paper bag and lighter. That’s how they use to PHYSICALLY test for benefits and privilege in the early 1900s by different “Upper Class” Black societies.
I DO NOT KNOW HOW TRUE THIS IS!!! I’ve always heard of rumors about Black sororities/colleges and the Brown Paper Bag test back in the day. It was said that girls lighter than a Brown Paper Bag would be AKAs and girls darker would be Deltas. I’ve always heard that AKA was the “light skin sorority”, back in the day. HBCUs even at one point supposedly used this test for acceptance.
Tumblr media
Paper Bag Parties were a thing from the early 1900s used to control access into churches, nightclubs and social events. Creoles in Louisiana “used” to use the brown paper bag test to determine which Blacks amongst their neighborhood had more African descendants in their background. They isolated themselves from those they felt were “more African”.
Tumblr media
The first 5 on the top row would have privilege in the physical paper bag era.
Tumblr media
As gorgeous as these women are, they would have been denied access to certain things in the era of the Upper Class Black societies (1900-1950)
The paper bag test is still very much a thing, they just don’t do it physically by holding a bag to your face. It’s in casting calls, TV shows, music and of course Hollywood.
Tumblr media
If you would like to see a creative POV on colorism/paper brown test, I highly recommend watching School Daze.
School Daze touches on colorism by exploring why certain men only date dark skinned women as well as how dark skin and light skin women perceive one another.
