(taps mic) hiii is this thing on
i didnt feel like making a 500 tweet thread so here is my rambling.
you know like the thing about “genderbends” is to change things like i get it you know. like all criticism of how bioessential people get about them like its just about seeing your blorbo but like. sexy in a different way a lot of times.
and i dont really care for all that usually but i have strong opinions on shu itsuki so maybe i do care.
bc i absolutely get why you would design her incredibly rich young lady right. ohohoho and all. with the drills. but im also compelled by like. what shu idealises about dolls is androgyny right. and you can argue this is because his reference point for wearing dresses and expressing himself in a feminine way was childhood and he “got away” with it due to the nature of children. you know. being pre puberty. and that this fixation stems from like, not allowing himself to think as himself as feminine bc of his body. since he is like tall and has a deep voice and its like you know. he is like well if i looked neutral enough i could get away with it. etc.
but tbh i do wonder bc like. would going through the opposite leave no mark. would he still desire the youthfulness and innocence and androgyny of dolls.
i think it does remind me of how like. girlhood or whatever feels like such a distinct gender from being a woman right. and people think it ties into peoples immaturity and they dont want to grow up and how women aging is demonised and im sure all that plays a huge role but like. as a girl you get away with much more usually. like. as an archetype. like heidi (heidi) or lyra hisdarkmaterials or alice in wonderland or that girl in secret garden whose name i forgor. they have these spunky adventures right and theyre not supposed to be proper ladies yet.
and i feel like shu kind of falls into this similar category of like. well off kid that is allowed some freedom of expression during youth right. and its like. then the expectations shift. and obviously shu specifically has never like. really been accepted for the way he does things. like its kind of central for the character that he received massive pushback on the dolls and the frills and everything. but like he definitely holds this idealised vision of childhood freedom. right.
anyway i am rambling here is my tl;dr sadstuck. shu itsuki takes estrogen in paris and then shu itsuki big naturals becomes real and she would learn about a different type of doll dysphoria and it would be very sad and i would support her top surgery.

There has been a very popular..ish genre of post I have noticed the past two years and I think about these a lot in my free time..
I cropped OP out because I don’t want to like. Attack them and there is enough arguing under their post, although the majority of comments seems to agree. And everyone who disagrees is instantly confronted by other commenters.

There are comments defending OP saying, well they dont mean read necessarily, it includes audiobooks and watching free university lectures! But I also saw a reply suicide baiting people who cannot read 300 page books.
And like. I study English Literatures (among other things) so like. Obviously I like reading. I do a lot of reading by making PDF Expert’s beautiful robot voice read my assigned texts to me. But I read it nonetheless.I am not saying TikTok can replace research.
But there is this underlying current in a lot of “media literacyl posts and “anti-academia” posts where I just feel like. This sounds all fine and dandy and nuanced but at its core.. it stays elitist. And disagreeing makes you a brainless zoomer TikToker who uses their ADHD as an excuse for anything.
BUT HEAR ME OUT. The idea that we have to /read/ specifically. That reading is superior for understanding opposed to any other medium. Is a colonialist idea. Someone replied to OPs post saying “so how did cultures share information before the written word then?” and someone else screenshotted it and said it is the funniest thing they have ever seen. The thing is. They were correct. They were pointing out a flaw.
Any sort of oral learning, practical application, or accessibility is always a second thought. You make a post that says something and then when people criticise it they are the shrill weird oral history people. The shrill weird yelling ableism at everything people. When you never had them on your mind when you made the post. It is like “it does not literally mean ‘go outside and touch grass’” well idk why do you say it then. Why not say what you mean?
Now I think there is a lot of information that is probably difficult to share in your peer groups in real life because you would never end talking with the current stream of information. But also.. why do these posts never include in person or online discussion groups. Why have I not seen a single of these fighting-against-anti-intellectualism posts seen talking about informative visual media.
I just think these are important things to consider and obviously the privileging of the written word is not new. And there might be benefits for keeping information “intact”. But it is not like. a superior medium by itself.
#I wanted to make a more well thought out and planned and Academic tm post about this but i got upset at posts on tumblr. sorry. sorry#not necessarily op but the way this discussion was handled in replies..#also every ‘i have adhd and i read in this way. skill issue’ reply is like ok. me too. not everyone is us

christening this blog with half baked thoughts so I don't have to fear living up to anything.
I do appreciate mayoi enstars being a character with intrusive thoughts.. I think it is a good thing and I do care him a lot.
I am a little worried.. since his description states he is a perverse individual obsessed with innocent people. Like it makes it sound like something the main story so far definitely makes clear he isnt.
So I feel like. He is both like. genuine "representation" and also there to appeal to a certain demographic.
I feel similarly about Komi. of komi san fame. she is like. portrayed with incredibly realistic thought patterns for selective mutism and I am so happy she has basically infinite love and care and gets to feel worth of love and admiration.
And when people complain that she isn't making progress or that her anxiety is overblown and unrealistic I'm always like. Ok. so you think there is a selective mutism five year plan and if she isn't up to your arbitrary standard of communication she's failing and it is Wrong to have a story about her being accommodated indefinitely.
But also it is a comedy manga that has to extend the bit of course. It would not be komi san if it couldn't have her be the cute bit character. and komi san as a show is definitely way too into sexualising teens. and people can be really. um. weird about being rly into the idea of a shy demure gf.
😔 it is all very clamplicated
