todays emo / punk band of selection is Free Throw! Free Throw is a band described as american emo band originating from Nashville, Tennessee and started in April 2012 after the members graduated highschool and was inspired to do so after listening to music and having beers.
At the moment they're signed off to Wax Bodega. Currently, Free Throw consists of Cory Castro as the leading vocals, rhythm guitar, and lead (2012 -present), with Lawrence Warner as lead and rhythm guitar (2012 - present), afterwards we have Justin Castro playing bass (2012 - present), then Jake Hughes as lead, rhythm guitar, and backing vocals (2013 - present) and Zach Hall as drums and backing vocals. (2013-2015, 2022-present)
Previous members of Free Throw are Wes Winslett who was a part of the band playing rhythm guitar. The band also had Tim Casey as their drummer in 2012 and 2013. Finally ending with Kevin Garcia who played drums and backing vocals from 2015 to 2022.
They released 5 albums in total with names in order of oldest to newest being Those Days Are Gone (2014), Bear Your Mind (2017), What's Past is Prologue (2019), Piecing It Together (2021), and Lessons That We Swear To Keep (2023). Free Throw has 3 EP's, consisting of Free Throw (2012) Lavender Town (2014) Missing Pieces (2018). The band also has 9 singles which will not be named for now.
A fun fact about the band is that the frontman is a pokemon fan, which is where many song names come from in the albums.
My first listen to the band was their song Rinse. Repeat. from Bear Your Mind and my first thought was "is this song inspired by Your Graduation by Modern Baseball?" because the similarities on the notes that both songs sing, especially with Rinse. Repeat's Lyric "And repeat it all the same, all the same" matching Your Graduation's lyric "i spend most nights awake, wide awake." But I could not care less about it. Overall the band is a solid 8/10 and I definitely would listen again.
