Music idea

Music

I am looking at two types of sound for this brief. Either dramatic music or atmospheric. Both with car and futuristic sounds. I do like the idea of music, it can add that dramatic feel to the visual and work well with the transformation of the car. My only concern is, will it be too much. It may come across as disjointed between the visual presented and the sound given. Does a visual such as this really need the dramatics, especially when its every day life?

I really like the ambient back street noises. I may give that feel of reality to the brief. Its something that an audience can relate to and create a sense of believability, that this actually could of happened. I will need to discuss these with Tim and test out both these options later in the brief.

I really feel this brief definitely needs Space age noises and take off sound effects, with whichever choice of sound. Whether ambient or music. I need to add in sound effects. I feel this will tie in every aspect of the piece together. There are so many areas for this to be added, for instance, the animation of the parts of the car, its take off or levitation and then the flying away. Its a definite must.

The timings for this brief are minimum of 10 sec, following the previs my approx timing is  sec. This will allow enough time for the animation to take place and be seen clearly.

Effects

I am looking at what effects i could add to the visual to add more drama to the car

I really like the idea of adding animated smoke, pulse rings and light effects to the car. I feel it will give a extra dimension and combine the background and model more seamlessly. I did start to think about adding huds to the visuals, but feel it would go from a futuristic idea to full sci fi space age scene. I feel keeping the light a luminescent blue, will give enough of a futuristic idea for the viewer to recognise the genre of the brief. As most futuristic vehicles in films, use either blue or orange light.  I also need to make sure that shadows are added, to create believability in the visual. I do like the idea of adding a floor light into the shadow, like the above black and blue lit research car. My only reservation is whether this would work with the animation of flying off?

colour grades of background

 I dont really want to go down the orange and teal route of a sci fi colour grade. It will not suit my idea of a futuristic car in a ordinary street. I feel it will come across a little fake and forced. I do however, like the idea of a blue grade. It adds drama and gives that cinematic feel.  Once i have the model and filmed footage i can test out my ideas further.

Looking at areas to film in Cardiff these took my interest. Each have buildings opposite each other. This could work well in keeping the car a central focus. My only reservation would be the amount of people. It will be a roto nightmare. also the attention would be taking on to other moving images

I like the idea of filming in a street. I also like the idea of the mountains in the background. These streets are usually quite so there is more chance in getting a quality piece of film. I need to also take in to account the different angle to be used. So need to allow room.

car idea

From the above car styles. I definitely want to add curves to it or have the whole car curved. I feel it would sit better in the live footage. Especially if it was to be filmed in the valleys. I like the natural shape, giving the futuristic feel, but not out there, that it is unrecognisable as a car. These are also the colour style i would want to use, within the C4D model. Even adding a silver may work. It will need to fit with the coloured lights idea, which at the moment im thinking blue.

This is actual footage of a flying car/ It really shows me what sort of details i could add to my Models. I want to create a futuristic flying car but at the moment, i want to create it a little bit more spacy feel. i really like this as an idea though. With vfx added it could look amazing

I really like this concept. The vehicle look really futuristic. It looks so good composited into real footage. This is definitely the way i want to go. I want to add wheels and wing mirrors to my model, at the moment in order to add more animation. A plain spherical object wont give me much movement fro animation.

Vehicles Of The Future - Future Transportation System 2050

I like this research piece as it shows how well models can work with live footage. It shows clear animation and visual scope for the actual models. I think futuristic is the way to go. keeping it sleek, with some moving parts.

From The Fifth Element, this piece shows me how vehicle could move. I think with todays software the models could work so well in this setting. Here the future cars all look a bit bubble shaped. A little old fashioned.

Again actual footage of a flying vehicle. I really like the movement here and the shape of the vehicle. i still feel the need to keep it recognisable to a point as a car . It shows me the movement should be steady and slowed down. Not done as a light speed idea

Cinema 4D TurbulenceFD Mini Spaceship

I really like this. It has the pulsar idea i feel could work on my flying car. I really like the idea of blue light to emphasis the futuristic elements and the use of heavy grey smoke. I wouldnt want to create a spaceship though, as i have done that before.

chosen idea

After discussing the ideas. The chosen idea which has been green lighted by Tom is the futuristic car take off idea. I really like this, as its paying homage to the Back To The Future Film. I feel that i could bring a new take on this. Creating a modern and futuristic interpretation. Using a C4D model of a modern car or futuristic styled car/ vehicle. This will then be animated from a parked vehicle to having its wheels rotate, maybe gaining thrusters from the wing mirrors and exhaust, lighting up, with smoke and sounds. I could also add in pulsars underneath to give it that sci fi feel. As its a collaboration, i need a compositor for my models. Tim would then use the animated models and composite them into a live piece of footage. We will both film the live footage, (again for collaboration reasons) from different angles, so multiple visuals of the shot could be used. The footage will be colour graded to give a cinematic feel and music/ atmospheric sounds added.

From this piece of research, it shows me how a robot could look and move. The colour tones to create a realistic Model. I really like the detailing here and the interaction between the actual footage and Model.

Again from the same company. This is a suburb example which could be done. The detailing is so precise and interaction perfectly timed. Every aspect has been considered. Its shown me, what could be done. Maybe out of my league modeling at the moment, but something that maybe be achieved in future.

This is from the movie terminator Salvation. The CGI here is incredible. Again it shows me what could be achieved and areas that must be considered. Its also shown me another genre that i could use. I really like the futuristic idea, it gives endless possibilities

Flying Delorean - Back To The Future Pt.1 - Lightwave 3D

When researching flying cars, i came across. Its a project based on the film, back to the future. Its more a cartoon animation, but gives ideas. I feel though its a bit boring. There could be so much more added into it. Visual angles, other futuristic vfx, and live footage. I feel i could create something with more definition and animations. along with the collaborative compositing and filming. We could create something great.

This video shows a excellent model of a car. Its given me ideas to use a sports or futuristic car for my modelling. This is something i will research more. There's no flying but it shows how the different angles could be used to create a believable concept idea.

From this it really emphasises angles and detail. Really like the shine on the paint work. Its shown what live filming could be used. Maybe the walk around is not ideal for our  idea, but different angles is the way to go.

This is a amazing breakdown of composited models into live action. It provides a good research into the areas that need to be considered, including the colour grades. I do like the pulsar effect in this. Something that could work well when the car rises.

Total Recall (2012 remake) - The Colony & Fall Intro

This is mostly done with green screen an area that i am not 100% with due to covid. I know that Tim has used the green screen many times, but i wanted a compositor for the collaboration. Also there would be the problems of him not being a student to use the equipment. This however shows me what could be achieved in creating a world out of modelling. The landscape could have endless possibilities.

I really like the detail and realism in this. It could be an area worth exploring for the project. There could be so many ways to show fruit in a advert. A bowl just being one. Its made me think of how if animated it could interact with a live filmed world.

This is the type of idea i have. To use a live filmed kitchen and modelled fruit. Maybe have them animated with call out titles of the name and benefits of the fruit. Like nutritional values. My only reservation would be if it would be a bit dull.

collab ideas

Here are some ideas that i am looking at for my Collaboration. As it is an external client, i will discuss these ideas with Tim, to see what is most viable.

1. Creating a robot in C4D and placing it in to a disused alley. Creating a sci fi feel. Think terminator but modern and more futuristic

2. Create a futuristic model of a car and place it on a filmed road. Normal sounds of a car , then futuristic soundtrack comes in. Animate the wheels, turning in and glow, then animate it so it takes off and fly's away.

3. Composite a person into a C4D world. Sci fi inspired, using modelled buildings, huds, futuristic sounds and vfx smoke etc. Have them look at a futuristic teleporter and disappear

4. Creating a call out titles, using a filmed kitchen side or table with C4D fruit, wine, glasses, cheese board on. Informative advert for a food channel.

collab intro

For this brief, i need to collaborate with either a fellow vfx student, USW student or external client. To create a piece of visual. After asking and no response from other students, i have decided to create a project with an external client, Speaking with Tom, i have been allowed to use Timothey Benwell, a graduate student from the USW vfx course to collab with. I want to stick to my idea of modelling, so need a compositor and live fil help for my idea to work.
