Roksana arched her brow at the man, her head turning as he continued walking. “You have to be celebrating something to have a cake sample?”
“Well, yeah,” he said looking back at her. “You don’t want to save the samples for actual potential customers?”

Gabe rolled his eyes. “No, I didn’t want you to say yes. What I would have wanted would be a reasonable reaction. Not some edgy ‘fuck you’ answer. Do you not interact with people a lot? Most people add in wit, and personality into what they’re saying, and don’t like having people act like assholes in response.”
“And you don’t know how to respond without sounding like a fucking prick, so I guess we’re even. If you want personality and wit, don’t approach complete strangers with stupid questions. Try a group of first graders.”

Addie lifted her donut in lieu of a reply and shrugged. “Honestly, I think that’s what got most of the people in here. That, and the chance to fawn over art that they know nothing about.” She shook her head and let out a small laugh, “I have got to find something better to do in this town.”
“If there’s something better,” he said, “I haven’t found it.” He changed his mind. “Well, that’s not true. Almost anything is better than this.”

“All right then,” she nodded a little. “I guess a thank you is all you’ll accept. So… thanks again. And have a good day,” she grinned and got into her car

Cori flashed him a grateful smile when he was done. “Thanks, anyway. I appreciate the help.” She winced slightly at that. “I just…didn’t want to be rude? Honestly, I would’ve moved on ‘til you were done to put them up myself, but…” Cori gestured to the empty cart. “Nope, that’s it. I’ll get out of your hair…you sure you don’t need anything? Or were you just camping out in the aisle?” She had her own favorite corner to just sit in sometimes, so she could understand that.
Adam stepped away from the bookshelf just in case she had more to put away that didn’t require his help or a foot stool. “No, uh...I don’t need help, thanks. But yeah, I guess I was just I was camping out in the aisle.”

Priya grinned when he put everything back in the trunk that needed to go in there. “I won’t go crazy,” she assured him. “Thank you so much. What do I owe you?” she asked. “Cash? Drinks? Coffee?
He shook his head. “Nothing. Seriously. It wasn’t that hard or anything.” He took a step back.

“Yeah, fuck me, right? Why does anyone care about anything? The aesthetics, the dramatics, humor, simple preference? I don’t know, usually varies from person to person, usually when their personality consists of more than an edgy ‘I don’t give a fuck’ attitude.”
Adam’s brow furrowed and he wondered if he was talking to someone in the middle of a mental break. “Okay, I’m confused. Did you want me to say yes?” He sighed. “Can you repeat what you’re saying without trying to be clever or what the fuck ever?”

sweetekofi:
Still in hustle mode, Roksana spent the bulk of her morning completing the final touches for the cake samples she had mostly prepared the night before. Once they were all arranged in a large Tupperware container, and resting on individual baking cups, she hit the streets, safely pocketing away her business card as she approached people with a casual tone. “Hey, want a free cake sample? If you like what you try, keep me in mind for your next celebration or event.” As she said this, she held out the container, showing sample slices of chocolate, vanilla with varying fillings, and samples of carrot cake with a cream cheese filling.
Adam stopped when the woman approached him. He gave the cakes a glance and while they looked delicious, he shook his head. “I don’t have anything to celebrate.” He moved to continue walking.

“Okay, fair point,” they replied with a sigh. “They’re not the smoothie type though the free wifi is a good point. You know what, fuck this, I’m gonna get myself a smoothie instead, that sounds like a good way to spend my time,” they concluded as they got to their feet and looked at him. “Do you want to come with me?”
The invitation for smoothies came as a shock to him. Smoothies were all right, but he didn’t want to have to do small talk with someone he didn’t know. “Uh...no, thanks,” he said to them. “Sorry.”

“Okay, good. I know you’re not an expert, but I’ll assume it’s okay,” she grinned a little and watched the man work. “Thank you again for doing this. I appreciate it, and my boss is glad I don’t have to wait forever for a tow.”
“It’s no problem,” he said. Adam put the spare tire on and tightened the bolts. Then he lowered the jack and put everything into her trunk. “Okay, you should be all set.” He wiped his hands on his pants. “I tightened the screws as much as I could, but I’m not a machine, so just...don’t go crazy.”

“Well, that’s rude. What did she ever do to you?” Tati questioned. “Yeah, because you seem like the poster-child of everything not weird. Being hateful towards someone you’ve never met? So healthy.”
“I’m pretty sure being mean to strangers is the most un-weird thing about me, but nice try.” He shrugged. “You asked for my opinion and I gave it to you. You don’t have to take my advice at all, of course.”

Priya shrugged. “Probably. But I was going to go back to work and either drop it off at the dealership on the way home or take it there right when they open. I should be able to drive the short distance to work, home, and the dealership on a spare, right?”
“Uh...yeah, that’s probably fine.” He once drove two weeks on a spare because he couldn’t afford a new tire. “But I’m definitely not a car expert.” Adam took the spare out of the trunk before he cranked the car up with the jack. He removed the flat tire and set it aside so he could put the spare tire on.

“One of my students asked me a question the other day, and her reason for asking it really affected me since. And, I need you to be perfectly honest with me, no matter how brutal the answer might be, because it’s something I need to know.” Gabe’s voice was full of distress as he spoke. “Do I look like a ‘Swiftie’? Please, I need you to tell me the truth, here. Do I look like a Taylor Swift fan?”
“What the fuck?” was Adam’s first and most important reaction. He couldn’t comprehend why this mattered to the other. “No, you don’t look like a Taylor Swift fan. Why does it matter?”

“What is the point of having interns if you end up having to do everything yourself?” Paige let out a loud sigh as they sat outside their office building and threw their hands up. “I mean really, I’m going to go grey early.” They looked up and caught sight of someone who was standing on the sidewalk. “Did you happen to see a group of college kids walk out of here a few minutes ago? Probably with shit eating grins like they just got away with something big?”
“All college kids look like that to me. But really, no, I haven’t seen anyone.” He shook his head. “I also wasn’t really paying attention.” He put his phone away. They didn’t need to know he was playing Pokemon Go. “Have you tried a smoothie place? Or anywhere with free wifi? They love shit like that, right?”

“What? You don’t like Britney either?” Tati asked, one brow raised. “Let me guess, it’s all about the Stones, the Ramones and various other real musicians for you?”
“Britney’s an idiot.” He said with a shrug. “And like, they’re fine, but I wouldn’t tattoo Johnny Ramone on my chest or something. That’s fucking weird.”

“Are you sure? You don’t have to…” she trailed off, hesitated for a second before handing him the books. “Um…just right there,” Cori replied and pointed to the proper shelf. “Between those two, they should be in alphabetical order already.” She gnawed at her lip guiltily. “Sorry - I usually just use the stools, we have them there for that. I would’ve skipped over ‘til you were done here, but…they’re my last set, so. Did I interrupt?”
Adam put the books where she told him to, while making sure he got their locations right. “Don’t worry about it,” he said. “You should have told me to get out of the way, honestly.” He turned back to her. “Any more books need to go up there?”
