For season 4- Sydney can no longer say she's tired and no more sorry from Carmy. It's their way to tap out of the conversation, and It's their way to avoid talking about the elephant in the room; imagine if the argument had kept going if Sydney and Carmy went on about hating Cannolis and Sydney actually expressed her peace that she doesn't want claire involved? Or if Sydney told Carmy about Shapiro?

If they continue the conversation, even if voices are raised, true feelings will emerge, leading to vulnerability and a deeper connection. Are they afraid of losing everything if they are completely honest about what they feel? Either way, the stakes are high, and change will occur when they remove the barriers that hold them back.

It's easy to remember what Sydney gives Carmy - peace, but what does Carmy give Sydney? Encouragement to go after her career. When he pays attention, he can see this is what Sydney needs. He was at his best at the table scene. He reassured her. Sydney even made it clear that she appreciates his compliment by always thanking him for his words.

Remember, Carmy never heard "good job" from his family, and his way to break the cycle in relationships (when he didn't regress) is by encouraging Sydney. She doesn't need gifts - she needs quality time and words that remind her how far she can go with her passion.
