assigning the garde and co band instruments based on vibes alone

this is what 11 years of flute playing has prepared me for.

john: oboe. the one everyone tunes to. the instrument that often doesn't have it's own music when it comes to band, so they have to learn to play other instrument's parts. the jumping off point, but never given credit.

five: piccolo. used in military pieces. sociopathic and hated, while being the one in the most pain. high notes bringing misery and terror.

six: percussion. hitting the instruments, shocking the audience, acting as a marker for the musicians who get lost. when the percussion is gone, the band is a little lost, lacking the steady presence they took for granted.

marina: clarinet. very quiet, very calm, until a reed squeaking pierces the air and makes your ears bleed. bringing everyone back from a dramatic section with a peaceful solo, which warbles with the vibrations of the reed in an undeniably sad way.

eight: you KNOW this bitch is a saxophonist. he IS playing careless whisper at all times. he WILL play solos incredibly dramatically. he WILL have near death experiences.

nine: this bitch? trumpet. obviously. FUCK the dynamic markings he WILL play fortissimo and he WILL cover the ground in spit! his arms WILL hurt!

ella: baritone. always confused for a tuba, the larger family member. can't play as deep, but is still one of the most important members, making up the bass. an instrument which is often switched by it's players with a trombone, a tuba, and their ilk, the same person playing the entire low brass family.

sam: trombone. the bass of the band, a steady presence for everyone else to play over top of. known for the imperial march. always alone in the back row.

sarah: bassoon. always forgotten.

adam: flute. always trying for first, yet never succeeding. always expected to play the difficult parts without complaint. dreams of success going unfulfilled. gay.

Different characters going through the time loop:

Eight: Just trying to make it to the fucking end of it all. Turns out it's pretty hard to keep yourself alive in an intergalactic war when you care about other people too much 

Adam: Charts. Notes. Drives himself insane trying to repeat the same sequence of events the same way every time, tried many loops where he thought not meeting them at all was the best strategy (it's not) 

Five: He's killed Nine. He's killed Nine a lot. It's never made him feel better. A few loops in he starts getting funky with it. He ditches Ray completely. He throws a fit and goes AWOL. He tries to take on the west virgnia base himself. He commits a lot of arson. 

Nine: He just wants to know if he can keep Sandor alive. And sometimes he lets Five kill him, thinking that's what the universe wants. 

Ella; Hits the loop acceptance stage concerningly quickly. She tries to tell the other every time but they think she's being metaphorical 

Six: she thought that there was nothing she regretted, that all mistakes in war as a child soldier could be reckoned with. However when given the chance to make it through mistake free....she can't let anything go. The relentless march of time ever forward was the only thing keeping her together. 

Sam; Tries to tell everyone immediately. Tries to tell everyone constantly. Has the mental state of someone who's repeatedly being shoved through a combine harvester and miraculously surviving 

Marina: wholeheartedly knows that this is divine intervention for the fucked up way they had to go through it before. Takes this as a sign from the entity that They Did Not Do This Right. Keeps thinking that if they just do this ritual or that correctly that they'll finally turn out all ok. Her main mistakes are always forgetting that people can make different decisions than they did last time just like her.

When someone says 'Garde' or 'LL characters', I immediately think of either the aliens in the main series (Adam included) or the humans in Reborn. The problem is, Sam doesn't really fall into either category and I keep forgetting he exists.

I genuinely haven't thought about that dude in AGES. I don't hate him. In fact, I think he's cute and ship him with other characters sometimes. But I never remember him individually. (I know for a fact it's probably just me)

The thing that bugs me is that Adam skips big chunks of his own POV for the sake of it being a novella, so we don't know if the augment attempt happened while he was asleep or not

So here's a theory dump about Mogadorian Augmentation:

I half remember what was mentioned in the books and what I made up, but essentially, it's the corrupt version of Loric energy. So I think the parallels between them are interesting to consider.

There's first the idea of development. Legacies develop naturally within a range of ages, meaning it takes time, not just the energy to get them. Meanwhile, the effects of augment that we saw were semi-instant (like Setrakus' healing after a stab to the heart) because it's almost completely artificial.

There's also the fact that while augment can drain Loric energy from one person to another, we've never seen it used to absolutely cancel a Legacy like Loric energy can, by heal away the augment. Legacy (the literal embodiment of Loric energy) is a conscious entity of it's own, but Augment isn't, it's more of a substance.

One of my biggest speculations is how they directly reflect the differences between the two species, and I'm taking Ella's example. When she was injected with augment, it made her pale and toned out her Legacies. So I was imagining that her colors dimmed overall too. Like, her eyes and hair were a darker color. Vice versa, this was reversed when she fell into Loric energy. Her hair was lighter red than before and her skin got darker and she had a sort of glow in her eyes.

It goes beyond the appearance outside, case in point Adam and Five. Adam has had some augment in his body for years without knowing at all. True it was very little, but if what Five (in reborn) implied about it hurting a lot was true, he definitely would've suspected it. But then Marina healing it is what caused pain. Exposure to Loric energy, which kills the augment.

So basically, to each species, the other power causes pain and their own 'fixes' it.

This also brings me to my point when Five said the augment is 'eating him alive'. My theory is that Augment works (at least to non-mogs) by replacing body parts little by little, especially in damaged areas. So when he first got it, the augment got into his body through his eye and the places where Setrakus cut his face, which usually helps me paint an image of the pattern of the spots.

This idea explains a few scenes in reborn (like when he got shot in the prison and stuff). I also think the augment spreads when he uses his Externa with it because he's basically moving it everywhere on his body. Its contrast to Loric energy that I mentioned before is also probably why Externa doesn't affect those parts of him.

Last thing is, what makes the Augment really symbolic is that it's not simply the opposite of Loric energy, it is corrupt Loric energy. Made by none other than a corrupt Loric, to the point that it (he) associates more with an entirely different group, both in appearance and effect.

The Garde keep picking up random animals assuming they're Eight shapeshifted and then keeping them as pets. Eight is moderately ok with this because he likes animals but why was there a random Llama at the park??
