Architecture for Knowledge and Recreation
Architecture is reaching new heights everyday with what it can and can help accomplish. In this case, architecture proves to amaze once again as architects have started to build a 3D replica of the Grenfell Tower fire. The architects are using the many videos from smart phones that recorded the actual fire to recreate the fire and project it onto a replica of the Grenfell Tower. The final product will show exactly how the fire spread and be an astonishing piece of art. The replica tower that shows the specific spread of the fire will be able to answer many questions that can solve the ongoing investigation into the criminality of the Grenfell Tower fire.

Arkansas Art Center
Tumblr media
Arkansas Art Center – Blog Post 8
The new Art Center in Little Rock, Arkansas was unveiled recently. The new center will include the museum and allow for the expansion of public arts program classes, lectures and film showings. I believe it is great that the Art Center is being refurbished to allow the different structures to flow much better. The downfall to this building is that I feel that it simply does not fit in in any way with the surrounding Little Rock area. I think the building is a beautiful piece of architecture but is too grand for the city of Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Stranger’s City
Tumblr media
“Busy New York City Street.” Maverick Traveler, James Maverick, 29 Aug. 2017,             mavericktraveler.com/western-cities/.
Manhattan, an unimaginable, inspiring place filled with dreams. The short story of the city of Chloe in Trading Cities 2 tells of a city where “the people who move through the streets are all strangers” and “no one greets anyone; eyes lock for a second, then dart away, seeking other eyes, never stopping.” The picture above shows the blur of people as they chase their dreams whole-heartedly, but without taking a second look at the close encounters with their city neighbors. Manhattan whirls and is consumed with life, as it is the city that never sleeps just as “a voluptuous vibration constantly stirs Chloe, the most chaste of cities.” The pure magic that comes with Manhattan and everything it symbolizes completely takes over the mind of any dreamer and gives them a pathway to their destiny. So many people are on the search for their destiny and the streets become filled with strangers, which is just as lonely as it is awe inspiring.

Venice - Underlying Truth
The obvious choice to compare Esmeralda from the short story Trading Cities 5 to is Venice, Italy. Venice, like Esmeralda, is a “city of water, a network of canal and a network of streets span and intersect each other.” However, the fact that Venice is a beautiful city of water and has many beautiful pathways, either by land or water, to get you from Point A to Point B is not the only similarity. As my stay in Venice was quite short, I observed many different sides to Venice. There were kids stealing from a convenience store alongside a couple in paradise. Venice relates to the city of Esmeralda as there are also “secret and adventurous lives” in this city. Every city has its darkness, even though the beauty and awe striking city prospers.

Steilneset Memorial: Inner Beauty
Tumblr media
Peter Zumthor, Steilneset Memorial, Vardø, Norway, 2011
Tumblr media
“The Inside of Steilneset Memorial.” ArchDaily, images.adsttc.com/media/images/55f9/b511/6095/966b/f800/0012/newsletter/a4544191.jpg?1442428168.
The end of the architecturally beautiful drive through Norway, to this.
From the outside, the memorial is much less aesthetically pleasing than the rest of the Norway drive.
The inside, however, tells us a different story architecturally.
The rustic and modern mix to the inner walls gives the memorial the beauty that the outside does not show.
Another lesson in architecture to be remembered: don’t judge a building by its cover.

Ayers Hall & Neyland Stadium: The Foundations of UTK
Tumblr media

When talking about the University of Tennessee Knoxville, you cannot go a sentence without talking about either Neyland Stadium or The Hill which is dominated by Ayers Hall. These two buildings are detrimental to UTK’s identity as they have been a part of the campus for decades. However, there are many difference between these two structures. Neyland Stadium is, obviously, for our prided Tennessee Vols to play football in, as it has been for many years. Ayers Hall is the designated math building where scholars put their knowledge and academics to the test. Ayers Hall has remained almost unchanged since the original building of it in 1921 other than some minor renovations to keep the building safe and usable. Neyland Stadium, however, has made some major changed, coming from a field with stands on both sides, to a completely enclosed arena with seats for up to 102,455 fans to come out and watch our Vols play. The differences between these two buildings are outstanding in terms of building renovations and looks. Nevertheless, the two buildings together make up the identity of the campus of UTK and the students showing perfectly how rounded our university truly is while exceeding in academics and athletics.
