SEYCHELLES COUNTRY REPORT
Are you looking to travel to this summer to any country especially in the African region for education, business, and pleasure? Then I seem to have the best destination for you. I would like to recommend to you the country of Seychelles. Seychelles is one the lands separated from the African mainland. It is in the Indian Ocean and Northeast of Madagascar. In Seychelles, you can visit some tourist destinations as, Morne Seychellois National Park, the beautiful beaches, Vallee de Mai, and Aride Island nature reserve. It is the aim of this paper to introduce you to the country. I am going to give you some information on the politics, people, and finally some risks you are bound to face in Seychelles.
Politics in the country dates to the post-World War I era. Seychelles has a presidential republic system of governance, with its independent constitution. The constitution of Seychelles was approved by a referendum on 18th June 1993 and came into effect on the 23rd of June 1993. Several amendments have been made to the constitution of Seychelles with the latest being in 2017. Amendments to the constitution require a two-thirds majority vote after a proposal by the National Assembly (Legislature). The supremacy of the constitution, fundamental rights, and freedom, amendment procedures and dissolution of the National Assembly requires approval by at least 60% of votes in a referendum.
The country of Seychelles has a mixed legal system, adopting the English Common Law, the French Civil Law, and the Customary Law. The head of state and head of government (President) is elected by popular vote, for a period of five-year term in office. The cabinet is presided over and appointed by the president, subject to the approval of the majority legislature. The National Assembly has 34 members who are elected for a term of five years. Twenty-five of the members are elected from single-seat constituencies and the last nine from the proportional representation. The flag of Seychelles is made up of wedges emanating from the lower left corner. It is made up of five colors, that is, red, yellow, white, and green with the blue wedge at the upper left. It symbolizes the ocean, the link to the African culture, and history, and the multicolored nature of the population. The country is a member of various regional and global organizations as the United Nations, African Union, International Maritime Organization, World Health Organization and many more.
Citizens of the country of Seychelles are referred to as Seychellois. Citizenship is not by birth as in most countries rather, by blood. One of the parents must be a citizen of the country to claim citizenship. To also naturalize to become a Seychellois, one must be a resident of the country for a period of five years to be eligible. Seychelles has an estimated population of about 93,920 people. There are mixed French, Africans, Chinese and Arabs making up the population of the country. The country of Seychelles has three official languages namely; Seychellois Creole (89.1%), English (5.1%) and French (0.7%). The other languages as Seselwa are spoken by 3.8% of the total population. Several social status indexes operate in the country. From its composition, color or race is the first social index in the country.
Despite the different races, the people are racially mixed to defy the possibilities of classification. However, the light skin is associated with the status figure because authority in the country is traditionally put in a white plantation owner or manager. Skin color is distinguished as blanc (white), rouge (red), or noir (black), and are applied depending on the speaker’s pigmentation. Economic, and material achievements are important signs of social status in the Seychelles society. The citizens are said to be highly status conscious and are very anxious to improve their positions in the society. Possessions as land and homes indicate the status and prestige of an individual. Cars, jewelry, and fine clothing are regarded in the society. Hence the quest to impress causes them to spend freely. Despite these racially tensions, the people on the Island live in peace and harmony. They have an open and hospitable nature of which all people are welcomed into their country.
If you plan to visit the Islands of Seychelles, I would like you to consider security and health before embarking on your travel. Security has been one of the concerns of so many who travel to other countries be it for pleasure, business, or education purposes. It has been reported that crime is on the increase in the country. Robbers have been reported to have robbed visitors at night, and there have also been some reported break-ins. I, therefore, would like to entreat you to consider employing a professional tour guide while in the country. Secondly, you would have to consider dressing in a manner that will not attract unnecessary attention to yourself. Dress to blend into the society other than exposing yourself as a visitor. Finally, try to get back to your hotel or lodging area early than late in the night while in the country.
With regards to health, medical facilities are said to be limited in the country. Some of the Islands have no doctor available, and so your health will be in your own hands if you are in that area. Take time to plans and research the area you will go traveling to or visit while in the country. Get for yourself a well-equipped first aid box with recommendations from your personal doctor on what might be necessary for terms emergencies. Also, I would recommend you go for vaccinations for diseases as influenza, tetanus, hep A and B, and yellow fever. These have been found to be very rare on the Island hence the need to protect yourself before the travel there. You will also need to consider appropriate attire so not to expose yourself to mosquitoes. Mosquitoes carrying the zika virus have been found on the Island, hence the need to really protect yourself from the bite. You can consult your doctor for more information on dealing with this virus, especially if vaccinations are available.
I would, therefore, like to encourage you to consider traveling to Seychelles to experience the great destinations mentioned above. You are assured of the fun, knowledge, and transforming the experience. The links below can be explored to know more about the country especially of the destinations to visit during your sojourn.

SEYCHELLES TRAVELING RISKS
Seychelles just as any other country in the world has its own challenges especially to the thousands of tourists that annually visit the Islands. From my research, I realized I need to take security very serious as crime on Islands are on the rise, though most are said to be none-violent as pick pocketing. There has been some break-ins, robberies, burglaries, and opportunist theft on residents, expatriates, and tourists alike. Bags of these people have been snatched, cars broken into and tourists robbed while walking alone at night. The articles I found proved despite the crimes that there are also some secure areas to lodge or reside will in the country.
Relating this to the reading, one will have to get a guide who is very familiar with surroundings as well as be able to communicate effectively both to you and the local people. One also needs to try as much as possible to blend into the culture but cautiously. Being very conscious of your surroundings will also help to minimize the rate at which you become a target on your sojourn. Expensive materials especially jewels can be left back home while on the trip, if possible. Rather, one can purchase some of the locally crafted jewels to avoid unnecessary attention to them.
Finally, with Seychelles, medical facilities are said to be limited with some Islands not having doctors around sometimes. With this, I do advice that one gets a fully packed first aid box just in case of emergencies and there are no immediate treatment and response available. I do recommend going for some vaccination for diseases as influenza, tetanus, pertussis, Hep A, and B, and yellow fever. These have been found to be synonymous with the Island hence the need to protect yourself from it. Precautionary drugs against insect bites, need not to be forgotten. Insects that spread African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), yellow fever, and dengue fever may be found on the Island. Mosquitoes that carry the “Zika” virus are said to be found in the area, and so if possible dress appropriately so not to expose yourself so much to insect bites while carefully applying your creams and taking your drugs.
I do hope to have a great trip to Seychelles.

My zeal to visit the island of Seychelles has been inflamed. I was eager to visit the country based on the historical relation it had with the country of Ghana, but this research has given me the perspective that there is more to explore on the islands other than just visiting some historical destinations. With the beautiful clear beaches and organic food, I can see myself migrating to the island on my last penny.
I collected some images based on culture, the government (president), green vegetation, the micro economy, and a few others depicting the different forms of religion in the country. These were purposefully done to bring some variability into the assignment while educating myself and riding myself of any stereotype. Culture and religion in most African states form the basis of all they do, and so I considered it very necessary to get some images on that for me to be enlightened about the people of Seychelles. I realized there are various forms of religion and cultures practiced in the country. My favorite of it should do with the colorful carnival that is held in the country, during the last week of October. It depicts the rich culture of the people as well as the diversity of the population.
The songs most inspired me. Majority of the songs I selected were in the French language. I deliberately chose those songs first to enjoy the rhythm, and then the “romantic language” (French). I have been fascinated by the French language for quite some years, and so anytime I come into contact with the language, I make efforts to take a listen or quietly process the meaning of what I am hearing despite losing the majority of what I know after years of “famine.”
Another thing that caught my eye was the green vegetation. I am a “low key” enthusiast of a green environment and so seeing the rich vegetation of Seychelles brought me so much joy that I instantly had no doubt this is the country I definitely would like to visit shortly. Growing up in Ghana, I know how rich the soil in such areas will be good to practice some backyard farming to cut down on spending and also have access to organic foods.
The media depicts the least of things the Island has to offer. From my search in getting these media, I am certain and without any second thought that the Island is a wonderful place for vacations. Therefore, on my sojourn, I think I would have to purchase some costumes, learn to swim and be ready to enjoy some traditional meals from the fresh vegetation.
While undertaking the search, my thoughts were that one thing is missing. A picture of myself on the land of Seychelles. I cannot wait to be there. Other than myself being on the land, I wanted a picture of some of the athletes from the land. As a fan of sports, I would like to know more about the sports enjoyed by the people of Seychelles.
I have a plan to get more pictures of the culture, religion, and sports to avoid any generalizations.
