shiftingmystique:
Who: @adlerdestiny Where: Irene’s place When: Raven’s first night in town.
There is a single person on the planet earth that Raven trusts completely, and that is one Irene Adler. Of course, Raven had been forced to get used to a world without the other for decades now, and truly, though of course she survived, it had been one of the most difficult things to get used to. She did, though their goal never left her mind, and she carried it on, along with become a bit more… intense with her ways to go about things. Since Irene’s death, Raven had busied herself with the good of mutantkind in ways of infiltrating the other side, especially after NOVA had come into the picture in a big way. She’d taken to sabotaging anti mutant politicians as they campaigned, as well as making some bold attempts on their lives. Her last one failed, she was sighted by one person, and she’d been in the wind since.
Now, Raven walked hurriedly down the street in an average human form, the woman she’d been playing as for quite some time now. Rayna Dean, as some knew her, had a rather intense look in her eyes tonight. She pushed past anyone on the sidewalk going too slow for her liking, and once she spotted her destination a block away, she had to resist sprinting. She was so close, and if the address she had was correct, she couldn’t wait much longer. Having so many contacts came in handy when people came back from the dead.
By the time she reached the door, she’d lost any care of what her voice sounded like, and she calls out as she knocks, “Irene?” could anyone blame her tone for sounding a bit desperate? When you manage to get the possible new address of your dead lover, how can you be anything but? “Irene, are you here?”
It was interesting the way her powers worked. She could scan ahead years, decades even and though some things tended to stay consistent even that far ahead they were few and far between. Sometimes up days ahead was a very difficult ask. What had been becoming clearer and clearer though, in all scenarios, was the return of her beloved. Or rather, her beloved’s reunion with her. So, rather than risk destabilising what was going to come by moving, Irene settled into the District and waited. It wasn’t easy, but with each passing day the moment came sharper and sharper and when she awoke this morning she’d been certain the time had finally come. Months she’d been among the living, most of that time spent under Selene’s watchful gaze but now? Despite that she and Raven would be together.
She used her mutation to scan ahead to help her decide what clothing to wear of all things. Despite it being Raven (honestly, who would care less about looks?) she wanted to appear as best she could and stopped on a dress with lace around the cuffs and neckline that seemed as though it would garner the reaction she desired. She finished dressing herself, put some tea on, partially to calm her own nerves and waited as best she could, a hand running through the fur of her guide dog.
When at last the voice sounded, Irene stood and moved to her door, opening it with an almost shy expression on her face, “I’m here, my love.” she said quietly, arms reaching blindly forward with no hesitation to reach for her and pull her close, “I’ve missed you.” she whispered, half burying her face in the other’s neck, “My sweet, sweet love.”

There was something horribly depressing about the staff quarters. The apartment was nice enough, but the factory decor and minimal amenities reminded Anna of a hotel. One negative about making a dramatic exit was that it only gave you one set of clothing. She could have stopped by the home she shared with Erik and picked up some personal belongings, instead of stopping at the store and spending a ridiculous amount of money on travel products, but she was afraid she could really lose her temper if she saw him again.
The sound of the knock made her freeze. Immediately she thought it was Erik, and when she opened the door and saw Irene on the other side, her heart dropped so fast and hard that she felt her legs buckle. “Mom?” She hugged her, tight, her gloved hands pressing the backs of her shoulders as if to be sure she wasn’t a figment of her imagination.
It was strange the things that came back to you as though they’d never gone. It had been long, far far too long since she’d last held her child in her arms but she held tight and easily manoeuvred her neck slightly to prevent bare-skin from touching. The motion was familiar and it brought a slight lump to her throat. Fortunately, she’d remembered to wear thin gloves and when the pair broke apart she didn’t hesitate to rest her fingers against the girl’s cheek. “Yes, my dear, it’s me.” she smiled.
“I’m sorry things have been difficult for you. I’d have been here soon but, well, coming back isn’t easy, even with how often it tends to happen for us.” she said gently, “Take me in won’t you. Tell me what’s happened and we’ll make it better.” Even if she knew something bad was going to come to light she couldn’t see the past to tell what it was.

When: Present Day Where: District X (Irene’s Apartment) With: Cassie @sting-likea-stinger
Despite what some may think, Irene didn’t spend every waking moment attempting to divine what the future could bring. No. Some evenings she sat in her home and quieted enjoyed her third chance at life. She had a glass of wine in hand and was listening to an audio book play, her guide dog sleeping in his bed when his head perked up and a knock sounded at the door.
She was still for a moment, processing what would come next, before smiling. It seemed her advertising her ‘fortune telling’ services outside her home had brought her a most unexpected guest. She gathered her evening robe, leaving it to drape off her shoulders with her hair hanging down, and walked to the door. She opened it and looked out unseeingly upon her evening guest, “Come in out of the cold my dear. Questions like yours are going to need a drink to go with them.”

When: Present Day Where: District X With: Jon Kent @halfalienblood
Irene found that sitting on a bench, her guide dog resting at her feet, was one of the better ways to spend an afternoon. The slight breeze on her face, the ambient sound of footsteps, voices and birds, it was soothing as she sorted through many futures. There was something on the horizon but it was still utterly indistinguishable.
Somethings though, in the more immediate future, were a great deal more concrete. “You’ll wear a hole in the floor if you keep up pacing with such intensity. Why not save yourself a guilt trip, Young Man.” she said gently, lifted her head, not turning to look at Jon but she knew he’d be aware her words were meant for him.

When: Present Day Where: Just Outside District X With: Bryn @xbirds-of-a-feather
With her newfound freedom (hollow though it was) Irene was keen to follow up on several paths that had flittered across her mind while she was held in Selene’s presence. She’d made a small nook for herself in the District, telling fortunes to those with a desire to know more and now she’d stepped outside the gates to follow up on a future that seemed to manifest in many of the scenarios she scanned.
With her guide-dog leading the way Irene stopped in a park area, just underneath a tree. Her dog sat and she looked up, gaze landing perfectly where she desired despite her blindness, “I think you and I should be having a little talk now, hmm?” she asked, “One has to go through the motions.” Even when both knew a fair deal of what was coming.

When: Present Day Where: District X Mutant Teachers Quarters With: Anna @annamariexrogue
While her mutation was useful for a great many things, on a personal level, she enjoyed knowing when was the best time to put in an appearance. Yes she had a need to visit Erik but (more importantly) she wanted to visit her little one as soon as possible. After scanning some scenarios she found one that seemed best and made a sedate way over to the quarters for teachers at the new school.
She came to a stop by the correct door, her guide dog (Sherlock) sitting patiently beside her. Irene knocked on the door and when it opened smiled softly at the young woman she knew had answered, “Hello my Darling.” She spread her arms slightly, “Come, give me a hug.”

Where: District X When: Present Day With: Erik @masterofmagnetismx
It had taken some time and several different scenarios but with the aid of her mutation and her guide dog, Irene pinpointed where she needed to be to find Erik. She felt, of the people in authority here, it would be in her best interests to see him first. Despite the blurriness of the future he seemed consistent in several paths.
She knocked gently on his door, holding her hands clasped before her, her guide dog’s leash between them. And when Erik answered she looked up into his gaze with disturbing accuracy for one who couldn’t see. “Good evening Erik. Might I come inside?” She already knew the answer but it was still only polite to ask.

Where: District X - Irene’s Small Apartment When: Present Day With: @sgallio
Time passed in strange ways, even for someone with her abilities. She’d done what she could to determine if coming into the District was the correct decision but still the majority of paths before her were distorted beyond recognition. Still, some things came into focus. Like her impending visitor. A less than welcome one but a necessity if she were to keep her freedom.
Far from an ungracious hostess, and with time to prepare, Irene had laid out a brewing pot of tea with two mugs, milk and sugar on a small table between two armchairs and sat waiting, her guide dog’s head resting on her lap. She sighed, lent forward and had just finished pouring a cup when Selene appeared. “Tea.” It was more a statement than a question and she placed the cup down in front of the empty chair opposite her. “Don’t let it go cold, then you may ask your questions.”

Irene Adler || Intro
Just a few quick cliff notes about my latest child Irene:
She’s a mutant who was born in the mid-19th century. She was born blind but with a mutation that enables her to predict the future (the accuracy of this power dims based on how far ahead she’s looking and how far away from her current location she’s looking).
She acted as a stepmother to Anna (Rogue) and had a long relationship with Mystique as well.
She died at the hands of Legion but was resurrected by Selene. She’s current in the District working as a fortune teller.
I’ve got a link to her bio here. And a link to some headcanons here.
Hit me up for all the plots! :D

Headcanon 3:
She has a great love of audiobooks. When able buys several of them and enjoys listening to them in bed with a glass of wine and her guide dog. It’s another benefit of the modern age she wishes had been around when she was young. Sometimes, she’ll fall asleep listening to them and be somewhat irritated she needs to find her place again.

Headcanon 2:
She was brought back to life by Selene after being killed by legion and only roams free at Selene’s will. She keeps this a secret, often telling others she isn’t aware of how she returned to life, not wishing to put them in harms way. Irene answers questions Selene gives her to the best of her ability in exchange for this freedom.

Headcanon 1:
Irene, being blind, makes use of a guide animal in Star City, a golden retriever named Sherlock (which she finds ironic given her name). The dog is with her constantly and she’s a strong fondness for the animal, often wishing guide dogs had been around when she was a young girl.
