Wedding Photography
One of the most overlooked aspects of wedding photography takes place right at the start of busy wedding days: bride and groom prep. These “sessions” are often captured under tight timelines and involve multiple genres of photography, from product (shoes, rings, dresses, and suits) to fashion and portrait photography (the bride in her dress, or hugging her family, etc.). Because there’s so much to cover in so little time, it’s easy to skip over important details.
Understand What Is Important To The Bride Or Groom
During the early stages of communicating with the couple, long before the wedding day, you’ll need to find out what the bride and groom value most most so that you can plan accordingly and capture all of the important details. This is true for prep as well as the entire day and includes everything from friends and family to other traditional details (the wedding dress, jewelry, shoes, flowers, gifts, decor, etc.).
Gather the details ahead of time
Depending on the collection of details the bride and groom would like photographed, it could take a significant amount of time to gather them together if it’s not done beforehand. Communicate with the bride and groom to have all of the details that they’d like photographed ready for you at the start of the day.
Involve The VIPS
If VIPs such as close friends and family members are present, be sure to get them involved in prep activities. This includes capturing the groom’s father or best man helping him put on his jacket, or the bride’s mother or bridesmaids putting the final touches on her dress. Doing so works twofold in that it adds dynamic action to the image and also captures people that the bride and groom care about most.
Find out if there are activities (gift exchanges, games, Champagne Toasts, etc.)
The more you can anticipate any activities that might unfold during prep, the more likely you will be to adequately setup and capture them. The easiest way to do this is communicating with the bride and groom beforehand, as we mentioned earlier, so that you can plan accordingly. These photos will add natural, photojournalistic moments to the overall collection and help tell a more complete story in a style you’re proud of.
Have the room cleaned or reset
You’ll need a clean backdrop to up the value of the images, and if the room is a mess, which is often the case, you’ll need to either ask the hotel staff to reset the room (if applicable) or clean it yourself, at least any areas you intend to include in your photos. Otherwise, a cluttered background can distract from your subject and it lowers the overall production value of the images.

Portrait vs Landscape Orientation
You can also use the image orientation to emphasize the subject or the area. There are two types of orientations, portrait and landscape orientation.
When you shoot full-body portraits, you want to emphasize the model or the person you are shooting. Here, when you shoot in portrait orientation, the person will occupy more part of the photograph than when you shoot in landscape orientation. On the other hand, if you go with landscape orientation, then only the person will occupy only less part of the frame.
 Positioning your Subject
The positioning of the subject is another way to make the subject the point of interest in the photograph. The viewer must not look and search the image for the main subject. If there are lines in the scene, you can ask the person to stand so that the lines lead to the person in the picture.
 Using Shallow Depth of Field
When you take portrait shots of people, birds, or animals, you can use the shallow depth of field technique to draw the viewer’s attention to the subject without any distraction. This technique is very useful when you have distractions in the background of the subject.
You can go for the largest possible aperture opening in your lens and reduce the distance between the subject and the camera to get a nicely blurred background. Thus, the subject gets isolated from the background.
 Vantage Point
The angle of the shoot is another factor that you can use for emphasis in photography. You can capture an image from different angles.
When you change the perspective of an image, then it will shift the emphasis also. Some of the vantage points that you can try out include the Worms eye view, Eye level, and Birds eye view.
To have a better understanding of each of these perspectives, I strongly recommend you to try all these vantage points next time when you are shooting.
Using Color
Many photographers use color for emphasis. Sometimes, the color of the subject makes it easy to bring the viewers’ attention to the image.
The color must stand out from the rest of the image to get the desired effect. You can also look at the color wheel to know the impact of different types of colors. The use of complementary colors can make the picture look more interesting and eye-catchy. In the above image, the bright red jacket of the person draws the viewer’s attention.
Light & Shadow Method
You can also make use of the light and the shadow in the scene for emphasis in photography. For example, you can put the subject or the area of interest in light and the others in the shadow region.
You can play with the exposure slider in your camera to get the desired amount of darkness and light in the scene. The use of low key photography is an excellent example of this kind of emphasis on the subject.

Preparing for a Successful Wedding – From the heart of Photography
You may find this surprising, but success as a wedding photographer often depends more on soft skills, like the ability to communicate and understand clients, and less on the hard skills, like the technical and artistic components of taking photographs.
Of course, that’s not to say that the quality of the photos does not matter but rather to emphasize that what matters most is the client’s experience, which will be positive when you tailor expectations and plan properly. For this reason, it is worth investing the time needed to improve your communication skills and build relationships with your clients and their families.
Understand and Build Trust in the Initial Meeting
Establishing trust with your clients begins upon initial contact, from the first phone call or initial consultation.
For some extroverts and natural born salesmen, this skill is second nature.  For the rest of us, we have to study and practice until we feel comfortable in these situations.  But regardless of your personality, here are a few rules to follow:
Have Their Needs in Mind – Instead of spouting off a rehearsed sales pitch or talking about your gear or special techniques, try approaching the meeting with your client’s needs in mind.
Find Out Their Priorities – Ask targeted questions to find out what is important to them.  Acknowledge and address each of them.
Be Present and Watch Expressions – Watch their expressions, look at their focus and attention, and modify the message as needed.
Be Genuine – Smile genuinely, show interest, listen more often than you speak, remember the details, and positively reinforce their requests.
Review a Moodboard
While reviewing the moodboard with them, be sure to do the following:
Identify their interests: Clients may choose images for a number of reasons: Colors, posing, lighting, location, etc. Ask your clients to identify what they like about the images they’ve chosen and use that information to help guide your photography for their event.
Tailor expectations: You may notice this comes up a lot, and that’s because it has a lot to do with client satisfaction and your ability to make your clients happy. During the moodboard review, you’ll have an opportunity to determine if the client’s expectations are reasonable. If they are not, you can help guide them back into a reasonable area with positive reinforcement. Rather than saying “no” to a request, you can note how the difficulty of the request will affect the rest of the shoot so that they know what to expect.
Address potential concerns: Unless you are just starting out in wedding photography, most of the images in the moodboard should be yours. If you notice that most of the images were taken by other photographers, you’ll need to address what it is about the style of the images that the client prefers and determine whether or not you can deliver that style.
Setup to exceed expectations: By addressing potential concerns during the moodboard review, you can set expectations that will result in a positive experience with your client.
Photograph an Engagement Shoot
Booking an engagement shoot before the wedding is extremely helpful for better serving your clients as a wedding photographer, and here’s why:
Capture great images: There is a strong possibility that the engagement shoot will be the first time that the couple will be professionally photographed together.
Build a stronger relationship: The more time you spend with your clients, the more opportunity you’ll have to build a stronger relationship. This will allow your clients to get more comfortable in front of the camera, which often translates to better communication throughout the time you’ll be working together.
Understand posing: During engagement sessions, there are usually fewer time constraints than wedding days. You can take advantage of the time you have with the clients and educate them on the posing framework you’ll use so that you can quickly direct them in and out of poses.
Dial in the vision: The images you create during an engagement session can be reviewed with the client so that you can learn more about what they like and don’t like, which will help you take more photos in the style they like on their wedding day.
Capture better wedding day imagery: All of the above points will result in better images on the wedding day.

Always go for a professional photographer
Your wedding day is full of an amazing moments which you would love to keep in our hearts and minds for the rest of your life. But as time goes by and although nothing can truly replace your own memories your photos can transport you back to that time and refresh what might’ve become a distant memory to one that feels like it happened just moments ago. Hiring a professional wedding photographer who can capture those moments of your special day for you to remember facilitates this transportation and tells your story like a fairytale come true. So without further ado.
Everything passes… When organising our wedding we remember every small detail; we want the food to taste great, the cake should look amazing, the band/DJ should play fantastic music and there should be enough alcohol for everyone. But on the day after what actually remains? The last bits of decorations, leftovers of balloons, dirty dishes, and for many of guests (bride and groom not excluded) a hangover! But what stays with the bride and groom? Aside from the bespoke rings and a marriage document there is perhaps only a large bill and the precious memories in their minds. That’s why most of us hire a wedding photographer which has a lot of experience in this kind of profession, who will be able to capture all of those details which we pay so much money. The photos which we receive should stay with us till end of our days, and those photos will have the incredible power to transport us back to that special day every time we look at them.
There is no repeats… On the wedding day everything should go according to plan, especially at the ceremony. There is no time for rehearsals or setting up. The wedding photographer should know where to stand and what to do in order to take the best photos all the while to not break the ambience of the moment. If we decide to ask a friend or amateur to take photos we are risking not only the quality of the photos but also with the decorum and professionalism of the situation where someone may not realise that the job they are doing creates photos that will be very precious and that it is a day when bride and groom are the most important people and it may be embarrass them to observe a person running around trying to achieve “professional” shots without knowing where to begin. A professional wedding photographer should not only know but be ready to set different settings with their equipment according to situation of the light in a matter of seconds, there is no time for learning on the job or wondering what will work best, there is just knowledge and experience which a photographer can only get by taking many many photos.
Professional photographer will save you lots of time and energy…. A professional wedding photographer is ready for every situation, he knows what kind of photos should be sent to his clients and what he should look after. There won’t be questions about what is happening next or what time is cake arriving; he would’ve asked for the plan/schedule weeks ago and would’ve memorised it to the minute. Your wedding day is a time for fun and joy; it is not a day to run around in your hand selected bespoke wedding dress and check how kitchen is working, or if the band ready to play, or to ask how the photos are looking and to remind the photographer to take photos of this or that. It just causes more stress, which is why you should hire someone who knows what to do to save you time and energy on this special day.

Finalize a wedding photographer?
Choosing a wedding photographer will be one of the most important decisions you'll make during the planning process, as the photos from your wedding day will be the lasting tangible memories of the big day. There are a wide variety of wedding photographers to choose from – from various photographic styles, to editing looks, to personalities on the wedding day itself.
For couples in search of a wedding photographer, I suggest breaking down the criteria into three main items:
1. Photography Style
This is perhaps the most important criteria. If you as a couple cannot relate to the photographer’s style, their cost and personality are irrelevant. Start by asking yourself two questions in order to determine if the photographer is a good fit.
- Will this style of photography stand the test of time? Or are the images so Photoshopped and enhanced that they will look dated in five years?
- Beyond pretty photographs, can I see proof that the photographer can capture the emotions of the wedding day and produce images with evocative depth showcasing the subject’s true character and personality?
Judging by the answers to those questions, you will have a pretty good idea of whether or not you would be happy with the style of photographs received.
2. Cost of Wedding Photography
The old saying “you get what you pay for” generally applies to wedding photographers, and the price for full-day coverage is wide-ranging. When meeting with photographers you are interested in, be sure to find the answers to the following questions.
- How many images are generally shot versus how many are delivered in the end? What is the average turnaround time to receive photos after post-production?
- Does the photographer offer back-up equipment, file storage, and album production?
- Are the images enhanced and edited in-house or outsourced?
- How many photographers will be covering the event?
- What is the rate should the day go into overtime?
3. Personality
Meeting and choosing your wedding photographer is a bit like dating, as they need to be the right fit. The individual(s) will be with you and your guests all day, so make sure you have a good connection with open communication after meeting for the first time. In addition, be sure to ask yourself the questions below in order to ensure you find the best photographer for you.
- Is this photographer committed to capturing and producing images that reflect my taste and style?
- Is their personality compatible with my friends and family?
- Did the photographer listen to what I had to say and understand my needs and expectations?
Your photographer will be with you throughout the entire wedding day – perhaps even longer than your spouse – so it's important that you not only get along, but also feel comfortable speaking with them and sharing your questions, concerns, and wishes for the final product.
After weighing the style, cost, and personalities of your photographer selections, your answer will likely present itself. Best of luck and feel free to ask any questions in the comments!

DRONE PHOTOGRAPHY AT YOUR WEDDING
Drones are as popular in travel photography
as they are often used to take captivating 360-degree shots of beaches, hilltops, and more. However, drones are fast becoming a staple in commemorating modern celebrations too. Picture drone footage of the entire wedding venue while guests start pouring in, or the bride making her way down the aisle. Stunning, right? It certainly elevates traditional wedding photography and makes your special day that much more memorable.
If you’ve been considering drone photography at your wedding, here are some more benefits to keep in mind.
Drones showcase the wedding venue
The venue is a major consideration when planning a wedding, so it would be a shame not to capture its entire splendor. Luckily, you don’t have to worry about that if you hire a drone photographer. Whether it’s a beach wedding or a garden wedding, drones can capture breathtaking visuals to clearly showcase the grandeur of your wedding’s location. These shots also work quite well for the videography, as they show an overview of the day’s proceedings.
Drones complement traditional photography
There are shots that can only be taken via drone and vice-versa. The drones listed on Digital Photography Review, such as the DJI Phantom 4 Pro, are ideal for wide aerial shots — especially since most of them are equipped with GPS-controlled accuracy for precision and stability in the air. However, SLRs are more useful for capturing close-ups and intimate moments — which are incredibly important in a wedding shoot. So, if you want to cover all your bases, it’s wise to have both a traditional camera setup and a drone camera for your wedding. That way, you get the best of both worlds.
Drones capture stunning and creative angles
One advantage of drones is that they can shoot from angles that are unreachable through normal camera setups. This allows photographers to be more creative and playful with their shots. For those looking to take gorgeous slow-motion clips and breathtaking panoramas, the high-end DJI Mavic Air 2 featured on Adorama can offer just that. Thanks to its SmartPhoto feature and advanced panorama mode, it can capture vivid colors in dynamic high definition. On the other hand, some drones like the Yuneec Typhoon H Plus are built to withstand strong winds. Its 3-axis gimbal-mounted camera offers excellent stability, all while shooting high-quality photos of your wedding day. With these advanced features, drones are well-equipped to cover your wedding day.
Drones give your wedding some flair
Hiring a drone photographer shows guests that you’re going all out on your big day. Aside from that, drones can also serve as a form of entertainment because of their novelty; it’s not every day you get to see a high-end drone covering a big event. Of course, drones should be interesting, but not enough to be a distraction from your big day. Thankfully, an article on Science Daily shows that drones are constantly undergoing redesigns to make them quieter and more unobtrusive.
Drones are excellent for group shots
It’s sometimes frustrating to find the perfect angle for a group shot. This is especially true if you have a large crowd — such as wedding guests — posing for the photo. However, the solution can be as simple as using a drone to take an overhead shot. This removes the need to crouch down or stand on tiptoe just to get everyone in the frame. As you can see, there are many advantages to getting a drone for your wedding.

What should you tell Your Wedding Photographer before Your Big Day?
1. Share your love story
This is the first step to getting your dream wedding photos. Open up to your photographer about you and your partner. This helps him or her get to know the two of you better, understand your needs and preferences as a couple, and improve the wedding day experience. After all, a relaxed couple will reflect a more beautiful couple in their wedding photos.
 2. Talk about your wedding theme
Depending on the theme you’ve chosen, your photographer can then visualize and plan the types of shots to take. If Secret Garden is your theme, they can plan for dreamy shots, or use creative framing such as archways created by trees or bushes to add interest and flair to the photos.
 3. Go through the shot list
Expand the shot list to include more than just you and your guests. Ask your photographer to take photos of all the little details at your wedding; from a delicate boutonnière on the groom’s jacket to the favours which you made yourself, and your guests having fun at the reception. If there’s a particular photo that you really want, discuss it with your photographer.
Conversely, there might be certain parts of your wedding you’d rather not get captured. Inform your photographer so they know when to avoid them. At the same time, trust your photographer to get it right.
4. Discuss shoot locations
Tell your photographer if you have specific locations in mind for them to capture, for example, underneath a gorgeous tree, in the middle of a field or walking down a candle-lit aisle. This enables them to plan and be prepared for these shots, especially when it comes to lighting adjustments.
5. Set your expectations
Share with your photographer the most important things they need to know. Inform your photographer what they should wear at the event and have a wedding timeline to ensure they can capture all of the special moments and reduce unnecessary stress. This includes setting aside time for those intimate bride-and-groom photos.
It’s also helpful to provide a point of contact on your wedding day. Here’s where your best man or bride’s maid comes into play! That’s because he or she should be someone who knows you and your families, can direct people when necessary, and would be able to help the photographer get anything he or she needs.

Why you should always go for a professional photographer

How to finalize a wedding photographer?

Photographing Wedding Prep
