imagine we get a scene in episode six like the rain fight but so much worse because mike finds out will is gay and it leaves everyone thinking hes homophobic, their friendship is over, etc. until we find out that mike was actually just freaking out for very Gay reasons and then the writers pull a 180 and they kiss

Unsurprisingly, this moment with Joyce, Nancy, El, Robin, and Will in the radio station is a callback to the boys bringing El to the AV room in season 1.

El is sitting back and listening while Joyce is at the controls this time, and Nancy is dressed similarly to season 1 El.

The lights start flickering and I assume Will gets a vision of some sort of Karen and Holly getting attacked before passing out. Just like how El was able to channel Will for Joyce the last time.

Karen probably gets attacked while Holly is taken here, while Joyce and Will told each other to run in season 1.

There was no gate left behind in season 1, but maybe there'll be one this time when El and Nancy show up? No one else saw the monster in the wall except for Holly back then - and we have both Will and the monster in the Wall poster lit up back at the radio station.

Either way, expect lots of guilt.

we've seen karen in this bathroom twice. and one of the times, someone was waiting impatiently at the front door

the second time, karen was getting ready to go see billy

we even see her going down the stairs again

in short, i really don't think karen is going to make it

and besides, this isn't the first time vecna has targeted someone in a bathroom

or flared up a vision

and by the way, being in the vicinity, like holly is with karen, or coming into contact with the hive mind (or occupied victim), is just as dangerous.

max's headache intensifying when she enters the bathroom while chrissy is puking in a stall.

and even then, like vecna with karen, someone has had their eye on holly for even longer.

Theory: We might actually see the 8-bit characters from the leaked marketing sheet in the show.

Will and Max may be trapped in a video game as part of Vecna's illusion at some point in S5. In the real world, they always lose, so they clung to a place where they could finally win. But the longer they avoid the reality, the harder it becomes to return — and until they face it, they'll remain a prisoner of their own escape.

Vecna has the ability to create powerful illusions and trap his victims in their memories and fantasies. Our heroes are notorious gamers, and notably, Will and MadMax are found escaping their real-world problems through video games.

So, what if one of them gets stuck in a video game? I'm not sure how this will physically work; perhaps they find themselves in an empty arcade, playing a game where they embody the characters. This could lead them to face a choice: leave and confront the harsh realities of the world, or stay in the fantasy and fight the monster forever.

This storyline would be visually stunning—just imagine it!

This concept is similar to what happens in the TV show Cloak & Dagger.

In that show, Tyrone is trapped in a Dark Dimension, which manifests as an arcade game room where he plays a game called Duel to D'Spayre. In this game, he controls an avatar of himself, battling thugs to reach the main villain, who represents the final boss.

His partner, Tandy, enters the arcade, trying to convince him to stop playing. Tyrone argues that she needs to help him win so they can leave sooner. She joins him in the game but becomes frightened by the appearance of the villain and exits. Tandy persists in urging him to leave without completing the final level, but Tyrone explains that he feels he has a better chance of winning in the Dark Dimension than in the real world, where he always feels like he’s losing.

She then says that he is dying in the real world and that several people would truly miss him. Tyrone is faced with the choice: leave and confront the harsh reality or stay in the game with his friend as she refuses to leave without him.

Okay, this might've been said before, and it's currently past midnight here so it also might be extremely stupid. I also haven't watched S4 in a long time so there's a chance I am very off.

But I'm thinking that the Upside Down is actually a metaphor for trauma. Wow. Shocker. There are metaphors in a well thought-out sci-fi series that seems to give huge attention to detail. Who could've thought? But anyways, there's a possibility that the answer to the question "Why Will?" Is basically that. Because between his father being an asshole and facing bullying at school, Will seems like the perfect victim for a monster that feeds of off fear, and the person that has to overcome trauma.

If I remember correctly, Vecna chooses his victims based on who is more vulnerable to that same fear, showing them their worst fears and memories. He literally replays trauma. And, something I didn't even connect until now, in S2, when Will first started seeing the UD again and the Mind Flayer, everyone dismissed it as PTSD. Like, how much closer can this get?

And yeah, because my hyper-fixation isn't on stranger things, it's on byler, you have to endure what I think that means for them. I honestly think that means Mike is going to be the next one getting Vecna'd. Mike needs to confront certain aspects of his past as well, especially the internalised homophobia and overall loveless household he grew up in. And what better way to do that?

It's also important how most of Will's trauma pre-UD also stems from queerness, whether that's the slurs his father used to call him or the bullies mocking him for being gay, probably even before he himself knew. That would connect their characters even further and, could also be used for paralleling each other during their journey of overcoming their past and accepting themselves.

So, I'm gonna take it a step further: Since the UD represents all the trauma and the fear and the insecurities the characters go through, it's fall would logically lead to character growth, and changes, and acceptance of themselves. Well, what if I told you I think it's possible that the fall of the Upside Down will be directly paralleled to byler becoming cannon.

It'd make sense: S5 is very Will-centric, and it will explore his time in the UD and his sexuality further. Also, during the spoon-fed speech Mike gave to El in the end of S4, it didn't really seem to help. As if the show was trying to give the message that mlvn hurts the story rather than helps it, which would be exactly the case if the UD represented, amongst other things, Mike's repressed homosexuality. Because then the more he leans into this fabricated image held on by a single lie, the more he stalls admitting the truth. And when he finally acts on that truth, that's the moment the UD will fall. Because that's the moment Mike and Will overcame their pasts.
