The vestal’s only response to the other’s was a smile– Florem was not exactly about its flamboyant citizens or beauty contests for her– Florem was where Olivia, Vestal of Water, once resided and the flowers would always remind her of the vibrant days of their simple but joyous days of childhood.
At the vagrant’s next remark, a brow rises in question. A change in appearance? A hand mindfully combs through her brown hair, long and slightly unkempt as ever. That wasn’t it– or maybe it was her height? She may have gotten taller since they last saw each other.
"Have I grown? I do not think anything else has changed about me,“ Ringabel was still the tallest however, and it helped him attract more women. Many people were attracted to those taller for some reason. "And it is nice to see that you are…still you.” Like their conversation long ago, even if it was him from the first world, the third world or even if he was a living paradox he was still the one who brought them all together. She was forever grateful for that.
┉▌┊❖┊┉┉
❝I suppose that could be it, yet it certainly would be a bit peculiar for a woman of your age to grow any taller. Don’t you think so?❞ With an additional amount of caution and his expression settling into a much more playful one, Ringabel extends an arm to gently tilt the girl’s chin upward and briefly turn her head from one side to the other with his fingertips as though he’s still looking for something as he breathes a thoughtful hum akin to no particular melody. ❝It would seem you are correct; for the most part, that is. You still move and speak like the very same woman who’d scolded me on more than one occasion. Though can you really be so sure I am the same man you knew then? For all you know, I may be a different man entirely.❞ Thus he lifts a platinum brow as he would let his arm fall to rest at his side once again, offering an apologetic bow of his head alongside an all too cheeky grin as he takes a single step backward in the instance in which he may have stepped beyond her set boundary. And it is only then that he plucks a flower from its nearby perch and gives it a slight twirl. ❝Tell me Agnes, did you ever hear of or learn to make a flower crown?❞

Hearing his name from the man whose appearance and voice mimicked his own was an odd experience for the Dark Knight. He was still trying to cope with the idea of the multiple worlds as it was, so to be face to face with one such example of it…
Still, he would not allow such things to slow him. He was a knight of Eternia, and a bearer of an Asterisk. To lose his composure over so slight a thing would be disgraceful in the extreme. Upon his alternate’s query, Alternis raised his head once more to give the man his full attention.

“…it is my name, so there ought to be no issue, though you are correct in that our past meetings could hardly be called proper introductions. I’ve yet to even learn the name you go by, though I must assume that it cannot be ‘Alternis’.”
┉▌┊❖┊┉┉
❝Correct.❞ This vagabond would do none but take the other’s remark as his cue as an arm swoops down to offer a rather exaggerated bow with circular gestures and all, this of course accompanied by risen brows and lips pulled taught to reveal an array pearly whites-- He’d always been one for theatrics, after all, and he wouldn’t dare ever think of toning it down. Yet it isn’t long before he straightens again, weight shifting to one leg as fingertips rise to remove the niveous hair from his brow.
❝I’m known as Ringabel--An ironic humor, really, though brilliant nonetheless! And might I say, it is a pleasure to finally speak with you on more...Ah.. Civil grounds.❞

“ Seriously?! What the hell! .. ugh, whatever. I’ll just take this shit to the dry cleaners .. look, next time you decide to swing a door open, user your goddamn eyes! “
he wipes the blood from his nose off the shirt with a sigh.. that door really did come from nowhere .. he wasn’t expecting it to just smack him in the nose, but here he is … “ Look, I can deal with it … you’re just lucky I’m built tough. “ even with a scowl, he doesn’t seem entirely angry .. just a little put off.
┉▌┊❖┊┉┉
‘Built tough?’ He begged to differ. Ringabel can’t help but attempt to withhold a grin that threatened to surface upon hearing the remark, for such had very little to do with build and more with resolve or endurance in his eyes-- Though perhaps such a thought only came from experience. Of course he knew when to hold his tongue. ❝Ah--Yes, of course. Though I see little reason for one to ruin one’s clothes when there may be a better alternative. Here; While it may be too late now, I suppose I must offer at least some assistance if I am to blame.❞ Thus he holds out a very simple white pocket square for the other to use.

Lips curled into a smile as she sees that he appears to be well— he was just as he was. He did not seem to age as well; did their seven years apart not wear him out? It was an advantage for him at least— most people find youthful appearances more pleasing to the eyes, after all. Either way, she felt that the blonde Eternian Sky Knight would be more pleased to see him here— she and Ringabel did not converse as often as they had, but she still trusted him all the same.
At his question, silence hung in the air as she thinks of an appropriate response. Back at her apartment, a certain fairy stays with her and their encounter was not very pleasing at first. She does not wish to tell him now, for it would be unbecoming of her to spoil the day— she understood how he might feel.
”I am faring well, thank you,” she replies, eyes on him once more. “It has been about two months since I first came here and it is a relief to see a familiar face. And you, Ringabel?” Around her the flowers scream of vibrant colors, and it crosses her mind that she has not experienced a proper spring yet— Florem was beautiful, truly, but they did not venture there to enjoy the flora.
┉▌┊❖┊┉┉ ‘Displacement’ was one word Ringabel might use to describe their current situation, though it did not sound nearly as unorthodox or frustrating as it was playing out to be. Though there was much he was willing to openly embrace and explore in this new dimension, he still bears a single task in mind and one he was yet determined to fulfill–Such resolve hasn’t wavered in the slightest. There are of course few comforts despite this, one such being the sight of his companion with both spirit and body seemingly healthy and sound. It was all he would ever wholeheartedly wish to see for any variation of her–or them–, and even now a genuine smile replaces his somewhat anxious expression from before with an energy nearly as vibrant as the colors they are surrounded by. ❝I couldn’t ever wish for any greater answer from you! As of now, I can easily say the same for myself–Simply taking an evening to revel in the ambiance and aroma, is all. Ah.. Such a beautiful scenery. It almost reminds one of Florem, doesn’t it?❞
❝But Agnès– Have you cut your hair since we’d last met? Something about you has changed since then, though I’m not sure I’m able pinpoint just what that little detail might be.❞

Reaching out to lightly grasp the journal in his armored hand, Alternis took a moment to study the book. His, or rather their, journal…it only made sense that it was how the Vestal and her companions had stayed a step ahead, though that fact was no argument against their own ability. The journal had provided clues and they had been clever enough to follow through. Running a hand along the ‘D’ that had so long ago been carefully attached to the cover of the book, Alternis lifted his gaze to meet that of his alternate.
He hadn’t thought much of his alternate and his companions reading his journal, nor of the perceived breach of privacy. He’d had greater worries, after all.

“…an unnecessary gesture, but…thank you. I promise to take good care of it until I return it to you.”
┉▌┊❖┊┉┉
❝Ah, but it is not an empty one! And believe me when I say I’ve little doubt about the truth behind your words.❞ There was little to worry about, for this was also just a book which now held very little relevance or value in any world. Ringabel may have once treated its words as prophecy, but since then it has reverted back to what it was originally meant to be: A record of times past. Then again, though he hardly needed it, it made for a nice.. memento he didn’t wish to lose--A silly sentiment, really. He recalls poring over both books thoroughly on more than one occasion as he’d traveled and even when one passage proved to be a word-for-word match to another, he’d been left with so many questions and blanks to fill in nonetheless. Both worlds evidently held their own differences however slight-- He’d learned that in due time.
❝A man’s diary is a part of a man’s soul, after all, and I do believe you understand that better than most, Alternis. ...Er--❞ There is a pause in both speech and thought as he trails off, a finger that had once been held up in inquisition now curled into a lose fist with the others with a sudden lack of confidence. The name felt strange on the tongue; stagnant, even. ❝...It is alright for me to call you that, isn’t it? Now that I think about it, I do believe we’ve yet to be properly acquainted.❞

Before she knew it, it had been two months since Agnes came to this city. Her homesickess and worry slowly passed, but Luxendarc will always, always be in her heart. The vestal missed her friends as well, not really hearing about them ever since things got busy for her. The Orthodoxy took up most of her time and while she was utterly devoted to her duties, it never hurt to at least check up on them from time to time.
As she was going about her day, cinnamon hues fell upon a familiar blonde pompadour and she did not hesitate to approach, as there was no need to be anxious around someone who has fought by your side. However, being apart from him for so long caused her to doubt for a moment.
”Ringabel? Is it truly you?”
adouri . )
┉▌┊❖┊┉┉
Gentle pinks, blues, and what seemed an infinite amount of brilliant hues in general litter not only the tall grass at his feet but even the supposed walls that would surround anyone who’d wish to enter what appeared a circle of impressive circumference. More often than not, it would take little more than a small burst of color to pique both Ringabel’s interest and curiosity by tenfold; Call him buoyant, if one must, but he’d always been drawn to any type of festivity— Or perhaps such had only begun more recently. He soon finds himself wandering about the perimeter, taking note of any little thing he finds particularly riveting—And quite literally so. Topiary, shops, scents, women— He jots down any brief description he wishes to remember at a later date, almost as though he might forget if he doesn’t. Yet this ridiculous paranoia goes ignored as his mind subconsciously drifts to thoughts of his companions, for what might they do if they too found their way here? He even begins writing it down— ‘Ah, Edea. Surely she’d run about sampling all foods and desserts the festival would have to offer her. Tiz would perhaps test his strength through playing carnival games; he’d certainly let the girls choose and keep his prizes. And Agnès—’
It is only once he’s addressed that Ringabel finally lifts his pen off paper to look up and take notice of the voice’s source, though what he finds is far from anything he might have suspected beforehand. Amongst such a brilliantly colored background, one might think her dull in comparison, though this vagabond knew so much better. Far better than anyone, Ringabel understood that this woman possessed a determination and passion that bloomed so much brighter than any flower in sight— And it would cause a radiant grin to surface along with an exuberant gesture of his hands as he nears her.
❝My—If it isn’t Agnès in the flesh! Why just look at you—Beautiful as ever. And kept astray from any harm, I’d hope? Have you.. Er—Have you been well? Truly?❞ And suddenly spring is nearly forgotten as he’s overcome with worry and questions he cannot seem to voice, for the mere thought that she—or any of his companions, really—had come to harm in this place or anywhere was enough to put him a bit on edge. Just how long has she been here without his knowledge?

“…I suppose that is all I can expect…regardless. you have my thanks.”
It was an odd thing, to be conversing with what was essentially himself in another body. How much of their past was shared? How many experiences had they endured together without even knowing? Too many questions revolved around the differing worlds and their similarities. Questions that, he feared, would never be answered. Even so, the fact of his alternate’s existence in this city meant that there could be those taken from any of the alternate Luxendarcs.
“I must ask…do you still bear me any enmity for all that occurred? I would not blame you if that was the case…though I would ask that you put it aside if it does remain. We’ve greater concerns now.”
┉▌┊❖┊┉┉
❝I highly doubt there was much bad blood—if at all—in the first place, though consider it null and void nevertheless.❞ There is a flamboyant wave of Ringabel’s palm as he dismisses the notion in full, albeit with little more than a trace of the smile that now so easily rests upon his lips. Had he always been so indefinite in the past? Though it might be silly to question now knowing what he does, the fact still feels so forlorn—He and Alternis had once been the same individual.
‘Have I grown since—? Or has he?’
❝Now, before we go on and tend to these more pressing concerns you’d mentioned, I have something I’d like for you to have a look at.❞ As he speaks, Ringabel swiftly moves to present the other with a hardcover bound in dark leather and detailed in steel—“D’s Journal” as he’d titled it—as he runs a slim finger along it’s binding with an expression that was all too canny. It’s a sight they’re both familiar with, he’s sure.
❝I believe I’d invaded your privacy once—with good reason, might I add—and now I’ll willingly let you do the same to me. And while you might find that its beginning is strikingly identical to that of your own, I’m sure you’ll also be interested to learn that it does bear some significant differences—Footnotes aside. It is only fair, after all.❞
