Astrology
since we started talking about chakras, colors, and the different stones I cannot get in touch with myself. I find it very hard to determine what part of myself I want to work on. I guess the main chakra I want to focus on is my throat. every time I'm I am about to speak I get chocked up. coming to college I was able to open up and say what I wanted to say. but now the end is near and I have to go back home, I'm going back into my shell and not talking as much anymore. writing and just anything has never truly interested me, but just so everyone can know I'm fine I place a smile on my face and act as this strong person who just wants to break.
I did not go with the class to Herbs & Arts, but I did go with a couple of friends a while back and my experience was not up to par. the feeling just made me feel very cold and shaky. I began to feel lightheaded
I am sure that if I do get into this type of stuff it could help me, but for now I am not comfortable doing this stuff.

Sapphire Stone
I chose the Sapphire stone for multiple reasons. not just because it is my birth stone but because “If you need to enhance your focus or gain more self discipline, you should wear or carry a Sapphire daily. Also known as a stone of wisdom, Sapphire will help stimulate your mind, and assist you in finding the truth“. I need to focus more in class and become more self disciplined. The Sapphire stone does help with depression and if you shut down emotionally. I found that Sapphires for healing Chakras open the throat chakra and will help you communicate and better express your feelings and thoughts.

In “Get your Rocks on” sapphire can be known for the third eye as well. while turquoise is known for the throat healing. Sapphire had many healing properties and different ways to Meditate with this specific stone.

Magic & Ritual
Tumblr media
“Sage is used to promote wisdom and bring in good luck. It builds emotional strength and may help to heal grief. Magickally, Sage is associated with protection and the granting of wishes”.
https://www.groveandgrotto.com/blogs/articles/magickal-properties-of-sage
I always enjoyed smelling sage, it made me feel at ease. Not knowing that sage helps built emotional strength, at home we burned sage around the house while saying a prayer provided protection. Adler writes, “in addition, drugs, alcohols, breathing exercises, and sexual techniques can serve to alter ones state of consciousness”. in my religion we practice many things that we believe will protect us, heal us, or praying and hoping someone hears us. sage was know mostly because of its protection it provided people.
I have always had an issue with speaking up or speaking in general as a child. the candle color I choose is turquoise because I need to work on my communication skills. I also need to work with pink, to forgive and have self love.

Baby
"The ghosts at the mustang ranch may have less to do with the things we traditionally associate with brothels - lawlessness, violence, secrecy - and more to do with the fact that, as a place of business, it's simply a highly stressful place to work".
This brothel contained secrets and did not want anyone knowing their past. They did silence their "dancers" because they did not want them ruining their business. Atkins did allow one of the ladies to show the videos she had taken. Like most people they do not want to believe things are true about ghosts. He came up with things that could have happened in the videos denying that it could be a ghost. Especially since it scares the dancers and cleaners to go into room B, with the building being moved it could have been possible that it awakened the ghost and made them mad.

Discussion Lead
“It has strains of both jezebel figure, a sexually precocious slave who disturbs the natural order of the nuclear household, seeking to supplant the white wife; and the “mammy” figure, a motherly slave who earns her spot in the white household by loving and caring for the master’s children”.
Chloe was chosen as the mistress at a young age. She had taken care of the children and was free to do as she wished, more than the other slaves. She fell in love with her master, she was eavesdropping on a business meeting and she was caught and had been punished for it; he cut off her ear and had her wear a green turban to hide her imperfection. She was placed into the kitchen and she planned to make the children sick so she could care for them to make him love her again. Her plan backfired and the children including his wife died because of the poison in the cake. He had her hunged and her body thrown into the river; later it was revealed they died of yellow fever just over a year apart from each other in 1820s; except for Mary Octavia who didn't pass until 1889.
“Killed violently and denied a proper burial, Chloe now stalks the grounds of the Myrtles Plantation, talking to guest, wandering the hallways, and appearing in photographs-always wearing her green turban”.
Chloe went to ask for help from the other slaves and they turned her in and made her feel betrayed. It could have been her fault because if the children and his wife had yellow fever the poison could have made them sicker and killing them in the process. With her being betrayed by everyone she was angry and her spirit could be wandering the plantation in hopes of being forgiven by the master.
It also states that “the lack of clear details or historical substantiation means the legend of Chloe is adaptable” meaning her story can be changed.
Tumblr media
What origin does the name Chloe come from?
If there is no record of a slave named Chloe, how did the story come about?
Is the ghost trying to warn others or tell them something in regards to the Plantation?

Blog 5: Anatomy of a Haunting
"Our ghost stories center on unfinished endings, broken relationships, things left unexplained".
In Anatomy of a Haunting it is written about the Tredwell family and also speaks about masculinity. Mr. Tredwell had 8 children, but his last was Gertrude who never married because her father disapproved of his Catholicism. She passed alone and her cousin took over the house and turned it into a museum. Before the death of Gertrude people would say she haunted the house emotionally.
Her brother being the "black sheep" was disinherited by the family because he wasn't successful and didn't step up into his father's footsteps he wanted. Samuel was an example of how us as a "culture treat men who don't live up to certain concepts of masculinity".
There were many memories made in that house, possibly including family problems that lead to those haunting the house.

Blog 4: Dumb & Getting Dumber
"Female stupidity can make men feel bigger, better, smarter; and it, in turn, can make many women themselves feel desirable".
I feel that if women want to be desired they do not need to make themselves feel dumb for the man. If female's believe that being stupid is desirable, than that makes those women who want to be greater than a man feel stupid as well. If they act stupid then it will make the man believe that women are stupid and it will be getting us nowhere. What does bother me is that some men do expect their women to be less smarter than they are. My father was the same way and disliked when we can prove him wrong. Just because the man lacks knowledge doesn't mean the women has to follow their footsteps just to make the man feel better about himself.

Blog 3: The Female Body
“she came whizzing down the stairs, thrown like a dart. She was stark naked. Her hair had been chopped off, her head was turned back to front, she was missing some toes and she’d been tattooed all over her body with purple ink”.
I believe that the mother had wanted her husband to get their child a doll and the father was not wanting to do so. He believed she would assume that is how women are supposed to look and he feared she would want to be just like a doll. Not until they noticed how the doll turned out from when the child had it did they have to worry about her wanting to be just like a plastic Barbie doll.
“One and one equals another one. Pleasure in the female is not a requirement. Pair-bonding is stronger in geese. We’re not talking about love, we’re talking about biology. That’s how we all got here, daughter”.
It feels as if he is telling his daughter that she is here to work for the man and be there when he needs her. Its just like my father who believes that women are suppose to be home cleaning and making food while the man does the working.

So, for example, when associations of fat and lower class status exist, they are usually meditated by moral qualities - fat being perceived as indicative of laziness, lack of discipline, unwillingness to conform, and absence of all those “managerial” abilities that, according to the dominant ideology, confer upward mobility”.
In “Unbearable Weight” Susan Bordo shinned the light on what others perceive fat means. In my opinion, fat does not mean lazy or anything else that is listed. For me, I am very active and do things anyone would do even if they were fat or not. Bordo also speaks out about how there is this idealistic body that females must portray but it is not true. I believe, as long as you feel confident in your own skin you shouldn’t have to hide nor be afraid of what stereotypical people assume about overweight people. Growing up there would be times where I did not eat because of certain situations. I have a low metabolism and it is easier for me to gain the weight than it is for me to lose weight. I feel I connect to This quote because I would also get called lazy and other things that make a thicker person feel bad about themselves.

Eng1021: Blog post 1
“We know what it is like to live under the hammer blow of the dominant norteamericano culture” .
I connect to what Anzaldua says about living under the hammer. Back home in Arizona there are many laws and the one that displeases me the most is SB1070. Unfortunately, it is an anti-immigrant law signed by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer. It allows police to determine immigration status upon suspicion. I am Mexican American and no matter where we go there there is always police officers looking down on us. We are judged where we come from and it is hard to even speak Spanish and English in the same sentence. Growing up for me it was frowned upon.
My grandparents were illegal immigrants coming to the US for better jobs and a better living for their children. Being under the “Hammer” because I am Mexican American is very hard, Since we have to prove to the Americans how American we are, and to the Mexican culture how Mexican we are.
This does make me think about my heritage and also, I should not be afraid to hide who I am. We have always be judged by other Americans for being a different race and now is time for a change. We should not give up on our native tongue because it is not accepted.
