The Difference between Strategy and Tactics
Difference between strategy and tactics I found this great article from Marketing91 that I thought I'd share with you all. I often hear people misuse the term strategy when they refer to tactics. One refers to a long term, big picture plan where the other is the steps used to accomplish the overall plan. Consider a general, he/she assesses various contributing factors like the number of troops, the weapons available, where the enemy is located and much more. Looking at all of this he/she devises a plan of attack. This is the strategy. The actions taken to attack are part of the tactics. Whether it's moving the troops, having them attack in a certain sequence and so on. What are some of the approaches you or your organisation use when setting out a strategy?

A World Fueled by Consumerism
"Why do we buy the things we do?"
I've seen many professionals in my field neglect a very important aspect of this question.
It all ties back to the world we live in today.
The product, price, promotion, place, all of these factors are valid, but without accounting for a society shaped by consumerism, it means very little.
The purchasing behaviour of the individual and the individual themselves has become one entity.
But is your organization integrating this new shift in the mindset of the modern-day consumer?

What is a Brand Philosophy?
"What is it that makes some brands tower over others?"
I spent about a day thinking about this question expecting some sort of highly complex mixture of elements.
Do you know what I realized?
The answer I came up with was significantly more simple.
The greatest divider between an empire and a company with a great logo? - A brand philosophy.
A unique set of basic principles, ethics, and values that define the organization’s culture and business practices.

How does marketing affect the world around you?
Marketing = Promotion
If you work in marketing, I'm sure you've come into many heated discussions with people who think like this.
They think that the only time marketing affects them is when they have to skip a meaningless Youtube pop-up ad or come across a spammy email newsletter.
We as marketers know that marketing obviously goes way deeper than that...
But just how deep are we talking about?
This simple question is something I tried to give a bit more context to this week and I would love to get your perspective on this as well.
What do you feel are some of the more subtle affects marketing has on our daily lives?

What Is A Brand?
"A brand is a feeling"
More often than not we make the mistake of defining what something is by using our own ambiguous metaphors.
In business, we romanticize what a brand is when in reality it is far more simple.
Do you agree with Interbrand's definition?

What Is Marketing?
After hundreds of meetings, I cannot emphasize just how complex this question truly is.
Within a business, not having a clear definition of marketing can cause havoc and that's why I decided to create a post to address this issue.
Having these inconsistencies can affect the ideas, planning and strategies we need to come up with for both large corporations, small business and individual creators alike.
Do you agree and if not what is your definition of marketing within the organization you work?
