You know, I find it super funny when people say Marinette is a victim of bad writing when an episode makes her act like a jerk to kick-start the plot, but somehow fail to apply that logic to Adrien when the episode needs him to get brainwashed in order to have a scene the writers clearly wanted to get in there, or when Alya refuses to hear Marinette out because otherwise the episode would be over in five seconds flat.

If being a "Marinette stan" means I can understand that Gabriel Agreste is the reason Marinette is lying to Adrien in the first place and that she would never have done that if Gabriel had not manipulated her and that Nathalie should be the one telling Adrien the truth and not the 15 year old child and that Marinette's lies are hurting Adrien and that is awful and a tragedy and OBVIOUSLY she shouldn't have lied but that Marinette is also a victim of Gabriel and that Marinette is doing everything she does out of her deep love for Adrien and not to intentionally hurt him and that Marinette is 15 and acting 15 and that sometimes main characters have to do bad things and make mistakes to have a story and that those mistakes don't make Marinette a bad person but a good person in a very very very bad position.........

I just realized something. You never see a broke supervillain.

I’m not talking about henchmen, or mercenaries with powers for hire. I’m talking like the legit supervillains.

They always have a lair, they have minions, and they have a fiscally irresponsible plan that will do irreparable damage.

And I think to myself, “How can these villains even exist?”

Then I remember that villains aren’t really bound to morality. Villains are often robbing banks and stuff. It wouldn’t be surprising if they ran crypto scams and other schemes to bank roll themselves super quickly. Probably flaunting all sorts of ethical rules to attain wealth.

Heck, I bet you if a villain had a patreon or gofundme, people would donate. Villains will always have a quick means

If you are going to be a super villain you need money. Sure having powers helps, but if you want that status, it’s a rich person’s game

Look at venture brothers, the moment monarch’s wealth ran out, he was downgraded to a 4 on the EMA level. And monarch was legit competent in that area.

Being a hero is simply about having the means to help, anyone can be a hero with enough hard work and smarts. Powers do make it easier and preferred. Money also makes it easier, but not necessary to be a hero.

It’s actually kind of funny. To be successful as a villain, you need to be rich. Because they can afford to be a jerk. To be a hero you only need a strong will to do it. Because to be kind is free.

They dumped a existential crisis on MARINETTE, revealed they knew she was Ladybug and were "you know, we don't have time to explain this to Adrien even though you know little about Sentimonster, so go and save your boyfriend because you care more about him than anyone else in the world, signed, Adrien's ex girlfriend and Adrien's cousin"?

Did you all forget how Gabriel preferred to KILL HIMSELF to avoid explaining his son all the fuck he did, having his comatose semi dead wife on THEIR BASEMENT and went "Marinette, you care more about Adrien than i do, explain this shit to him" and poofed himself of existence?

Did you all forget how Nathalie KNOWS the best all of this, how she still has videos of Emilie explaining stuff and is still not telling the truth to Adrien, even though she is now his canonically adopted mom? And an adult? But it's still letting Marinette fix Gabriel's mistakes?

Did you all forget all the times Marinette saw the universe destroyed just because her identity was revealed, how NO OTHER PERSON has that knowledge, and she has the need to work on the clock to fix everything or Bunnyx, AN ADULT BUNNYX, has to pop-out sometimes to ask a child to fix time paradoxes?

How do you expect HER to explain all of this to Adrien. How do you expect her alone to try and be the messenger of everyone's mistakes in Adrien's life. How do you expect a fucking child to carry the burden of everyone else's lies and not let her have her at least this one

Okay I get why people are mad about the lying. I hate lying. But you know who also hates lying? Marinette.

It’s a complicated situation, and I can’t say that if I were in her shoes that I wouldn’t also lie. Can most of us say that for certain?

She’s 15. I made so many dumb mistakes when I was 15 but at least I didn’t have the weight of the world on my shoulders as well. She’s figuring herself out while also trying to be a superhero. She’s allowed to make mistakes and this is probably a really big one yes. We can’t expect her to do the right thing all the time.

If anything this episode has made Marinette actually face the consequences of her lies for the first time. That’s good progress! She’s seen how her best friend reacts to the truth - and it is making her think about it.

I am not saying that Marinette’s actions are right - she is lying to the entire world. But I can understand. And I would do the same thing.

So how about instead of hating on a tv character because she ended up in a terrible situation and only had terrible choices to make (and yes telling the truth in this situation I would say is a terrible choice, there’s no winners here, only stupid gabriel) - we enjoy this complex character who at least has the right heart behind everything she does.

We’re in a lose lose situation here but that’s what makes it entertaining 🙃

Like, Superman was pretending to be a journalist (Clark Kent), and he wasn't constantly attempting to uncover secret identities of every other Superhero in DC-Verse (even if his "X-Ray Vision" meant that he knew them anyway).

This might be an unpopular opinion, but for someone who touts about loving and admiring superheroes, Alya sure has a fundamental misunderstanding of what being a hero entails and how secret identities work. "I wanna tell the truth!" Cool. Don't be superhero. It's a classic trope that a hero hides their identity even from those they love. So, girl, be so for real. It's part of the job. 🙄

Also, there is another problem:

Marinette actually knows only slighty more information than Adrien due to Bunnyx lying to her, which caused her to act afterwards on false information.

Chat Blanc was "created" by Gabriel's actions, but thanks to Bunnyx telling her that "your love caused this" Marinette thinks that its HER OWN actions caused Chat Noir to be Akumatized, which is a blatantly false in two ways:

Gabriel was directly responsible

Even if Marinette was responsible, it would be CB-Verse!Marinette, not OG!Marinette (due to its happening in different universe/timeline, that OG!Marinette can't influence "by herself")

To everyone saying that Marinette was wrong to lie to Adrien about who Hawkmoth was, I'd like to remind you about what happened the last time Adrien discovered the truth about his father.
