HE  COULDN’T  HAVE  COFFEE  SO  it  was  his  hot  chocolate  that  kept  him  warm.  he  looked  at  his  bike  parked  outside  ,  wondering  if  his  mom  would  find  out  he  skipped  school  for  the  day  (  who  was  he  KIDDING  of  course  she  knew  )  but  in  freddie’s  defense  ,  he  wanted  to  study.  even  if  that  mean  DOODLING  in  his  notebook  for  an  hour  straight.  he  looked  up  at  the  older  man  once  he  began  to  speak.   ❝  um  ,  i’m  not  supposed  to  talk to  strangers .   ❞  he  was  athena’s  dad  ,  he  knew  that  but  for  extra  PRECAUTION  (  come  on  ,  his  mom  was  already  pissed  for  skipping  class  )  ❝  but  i’m  kind  of  SURE  your  hand  is  a  little  too  high  on  the  neck  of  the  guitar.  and  you  haven’t  tuned  it  yet  either  so  ,  yeah.   ❞

                  gabriel’s eyes narrow at the boy, but an amused GRIN stays on his lips. a sense of FAMILIARITY nags at him, he swore he knew that face from somewhere .. he could be one of athena’s friends, but that explanation didn’t feel quite right. ❝ well aren’t you a little SMART ALECK, ❞ he raises a brow at the boy pointedly before turning his attention back to the guiter, fingers twiddling with the keys. after a moment, gabriel glanced up at him once again, hesitating for a second,  ❝ y’know, you’re wrong on one thing ; we’re not strangers ‘cause i swear i know you, what’s your name, kid ?? ❞

❝  hmmm  —  i  don’t  recall  asking  for  this  ,  like  any  of  this.   ❞   her  hand  waved  in  his  general  direction.  attempting  to  come  of  serious  didn’t  last  LONG.  she  erupted  into  laughter  shortly  after  her  teasing.  ❝  i’m  only  kidding  !! ❞  her  hand  retreated  to  her  coffee  cup  to  take  a  sip  of  the  liquid  instead.  ❝  here  ,  why  don’t  you  let  me  give  it  a  try  ??  i  might  even  sing  a  little  song  for  ya  !!  ❞

                  at her offer, gabriel’s tilts his head and raises an eyebrow at the woman, IMPRESSED and interest peaked. ❝ alright, alright. let’s see what you got, ❞ he grins and reaches over to hand the guitar over to her before leaning back in his seat. gabriel dramatically sets his hands behind his head and rests the right ankle on TOP of his knee.  ❝ hey, no pressure, but i’m preparing myself to be BLOWN AWAY ! ❞

BOBBY GLANCED AT THE GUITAR AND THEN AT THE MAN. did he seem like he would be good? but then again, how can you tell wether a person is good at guitar? “i don’t know, i have sensitive ears.” he joked, accompanied by a life hearted chuckle. “but yeah, yeah, go ahead.” a smile still on his lips. 

                  ❝ good thing you only really need ONE then, ❞ gabriel kids him with a grin. his eyebrows rise in surprise at the younger man’s compliance but nonetheless, he clears his throat and straightens in his chair. gabriel positioned his fingers on the neck and paused for DRAMATIC effect before laughing.  ❝ you know what ? maybe another day. don’t really need to lose any more business, y’know ?? ❞

seeing how he tensed up , how that sturdy , strong alaric dissolved in front of her eyes caused a glint of satisfaction to twinkle in her eyes . as soon as she found out that she had that affect on him … well , let’s just say she began to take WILD advantage of it . ‘ i wouldn’t make it this obvious if i were trying to sabotage your case . ‘ ( air quotes with the key word . ) shaking her head , the woman turned away from him . ‘ come on , romero … you know me , i like to play D I R T Y . sabotage is for law school . me & you are way passed that . ‘ her tone , cool — almost … siren-esque . ( but who was she kidding ?? she was interested , there was no hiding that . ) 

                   he finally forces himself to look up at her, brow raising DUBIOUSLY at her words. ❝ you realize that’s no comfort for me ? you were probably in law school like, what ? two years ago ? three ?? ❞ judging by her work and just by the way the woman simply CARRIED HERSELF, he was probably a few years off. or he could be right on the ball, which would only make her even more annoyingly impressive. ‘ me & you ’ he tries not to linger on those three words and instead jabs at her again,  ❝ are we ? i don’t remember receiving the memo.. ❞ he murmurs, almost teasingly now.

IT  WAS  HARD  TO  PRETEND  to  not  know  someone  you  once  loved.  judith  assumed  he  didn’t  RECOGNIZE  her.  so  she  too  ,  followed  his  lead  and  sat  quietly  with  her  cup  of  coffee ,  dougie  sitting  on  onside  of  her.  CONVENIENTLY  sick  from  school  on  an  exam  day.  so  instead  he  was  SPENDING  the  day  with  mommy  instead.   ❝  isn’t  this  your  cafe  ,  why  would  i  need  to  pay  for  YOUR  cup  ??  if  anything  ,  you  should  be  treating  me  with  one  just  in  case  you  BREAK  a  string  or  crack  a  note.  ❞

                    he’s still looking down at his fingers, hesitantly pressing down on the strings of his guitar, trying to remember what in the hell a ‘C’ CHORD looked like. gabriel chuckled uneasily at the sharp response he received, he certainly didn’t expect to just get called out like that.  ❝ you caught me, ❞ he replied sheepishly with a grin,  ❝ that was just my lame attempt at trying to CON you. but.. you make a COMPELLING argument, miss — ❞ as he looked up from his guitar and met the eyes of the woman before him, his grin faltered and it was a MIRACLE he didn’t drop the intrument on his feet right then and there.  ❝ — oh, fuck me, ❞ the words were instinctive, tumbling past his lips before he could STOP himself. he was somewhat mumbling, so gabriel could only hope that she hadn’t HEARD.

❝ you could give your dad a piece of trash found in the downtown sewer and he’d say you’re DAUGHTER OF THE YEAR !!  ❞ he replied to her smugness. he too, a stubborn — lionhearted child. he scrunched his nose as he thought.  ❝ i mean he does like music i got get him a guitar pic or som — ❞ his thought process was interrupted when he heard athena hear the two words he DREADED: dad / shave. his hands trailed up to run through his dark hair.  ❝ don’t ever say that to me !! my dad’s had a mustache since i was an infant. he’s like — a WHOLE other man without it. and athena , it attracts women … like SCARY women. women who can smell money from MILES away. like , i already have to deal with jordie’s weird-ass crush i really don’t need more of it on my plate right now !! ❞ he reached in his pocket for his inhaler, pulling off the cap he took two huffs of the clean air.  ❝ besides your dad has a beard — have you ever seen him without it ?? DO YOU want to see him without it ?? ❞

                   well, she couldn’t deny THAT. athena’s dad could be a little … overtly-enthusiastic, to say the least. so she responds with nothing more than a silent shrug, her lips curving into a sly smile. ❝ your dad plays the guitar ?? ❞ she questions incredulously, eyebrows shooting upwards. athena wasn’t sure why she was so surprised, she did always notice the double c’s of mr. abbott, COOL & CONFIDENT. it struck her odd, unnatural even, for a dad to be so… effortlessly like so, but then again, when it came to dads, athena only had her own to compare him to. so mabe she could ease off on what she thought was TYPICAL. she laughs at alfie’s sudden panicked-rambling, nose scrunching slightly at the mention of jordie’s ( agreeably ) weird attraction to aflie’s father. ❝ alright, alright, i guess that’s reasonable. i wouldn’t want some twenty-something GOLD DIGGER for a stepmom either, but hey, would you rather that or JORDIE ?? ❞ athena teases before pausing at his question, thinking it over and even going as far as trying to picture it in her head,  ❝ i mean, yeah, sure. why not ? i think it’d be LIT to see what my dad looks like without a beard, for research purposes, of course ! ❞

( gab ) do you have any siblings? and if so, how close are you to them?

                   ❝ yeah, i do actually ! i have ONE younger sister but growing up we weren’t too close, mostly cause i was a pretentious dick of a teenager, and we were both always just so preoccupied with school, sports, the works, y’know ?? of course, looking back on it, i really REGRET not spending more time with her but.. that’s kind of what i’m trying to do now, i guess ?? working through my regrets and mistakes one by one. ❞

                    ❝ maybe the coffee is half assed too, you never know, ❞ he countered challengingly. gabriel raised an eyebrow at her and MATCHED the girl’s sly expression.  ❝ but alright, i’m listening — what have you got in mind ?? ❞

                    gabriel grins at her and a small laugh escapes his lips, ❝ alright, fair ENOUGH. ❞ he gives her a nod of agreement before chuckling again, ❝ well, i do aim to please — got any requests ??  ❞ he questions with a quirk of his brow. ❝ just a warning though, i don’t do COUNTRY or anything top 40. ❞

❝ well…❞ rory thought over of it, there was some money she could spare for this GAMBLE and there was a very high chance that maybe he will be horrible, but her brother played the guitar when he was sixteen and he is twenty eight now but he’s still ’I M P E C C A B L E  as her mother would say. she let out small sigh and gestured her hand to him,  ❝ go on then. ❞

                   eyes widen in surprise and an excited grin appears on his lips, ❝ really ?? ❞ the girl’s hesitance flies over his head and gabriel thrums his fingers on the side of the guitar in anticipation. he hummed ABSENTLY as he considered what to play before looking up at the brunette once again, ❝ got any specific requests for me ? cause if not, i’ll probably just resort to some red hot chili peppers. ❞
