The old diner looked nothing like it used to, it was still nice but Roy preferred it when it was an absolute dive. He arrived early, so early in fact that he had to loiter around waiting for a table to be cleared. His fingers tapped on the table, tap, tap, tap. He stared at the clock, it was still early. Would he get stood up? He started to wonder if maybe Kat would actually stand him up just to prove a point of how hurtful and frustrating it was to be abandoned.

No, she'd come. She bothered to tell him about their son of course she'd come. Even if it was just to placate him and give her child a chance to know his father, Kat was that sort of person. She'd suffer Roy if it meant that Theo got to meet his dad, at the very least that was certain.

Tap, tap, tap.

He looked at the clock again and sighed.

He wanted to make a good impression by being early but now he wondered if he should have brought a magazine or something.

"Just a coffee for now please" Roy answered the waitress. The place was busy , Roy's mind trailed off wondering if Theo and Lian would like to eat here. If they'd color the placemats.

He wondered if Theo liked hot wheels.

"Hey-" Roy snapped out of his thoughts when he saw Katarina enter.

"I bet she is." Kat smiled, hearing more about Lian. She'd like to meet her too if Roy would be ok with that. Theo would love a sibling she was sure of that.

"Remember that old diner we would eat at? They renovated it. It's nice and casual. It would be like old times.." Kat felt her heart rate jump more.

When he joined her side of the table, he could feel how hot her skin grew since that kiss. She cleared her throat focusing on his questions.

"He likes to read. He colors. Let's see, he loves to build stuff too and figure out how stuff works. He does gymnastics, too."

She felt his breath on her skin and his hand roamed over her touching her where no one really touched her since he left. The tactile touch jogged her memory of how they couldn't keep their hands off each other high on adrenaline and other substances. It was intense like a flame. That already growing heat pooled to her lower half of her body.

Her pupils are blown in lust, trying to be good here, and resist that pull he had with. Her former self would have just let him consume her right here in the restaurant. Begging for him to give her another baby.

When he pulled away to go eat her food only then did that haze fade snapping her to clarity as she picked up her fork to eat her food.

"Of course it's a boy but don't be weird about it,he's just a dumb 16 year old boy, distracting is what they do"

It was difficult enough to be seventeen with teenage issues without your uncle getting all crime boss about it. "And if you're gonna act like Theo or dad then I ain't telling you shit about him. I thought you were gonna be cool not all I'll bust his kneecaps. If he breaks my heart I'll survive and the next one can do it too. Jesus..I'll give him a talking to, do you hear yourself?"

She sighed rubbing her face with her hands.

"Have you never had your heart broken?" she interrogated him now. "Bet you have and broken people's hearts too and everyone survived. He's..."

She stared Jack up and down and deemed him worthy.

"His name is Alex and he's in my DnD group. He's cute, gonna get into engineering." In New York.

"Can I be gay with you instead?" she felt like making dumb jokes to cut through that intense staring. "I'm just tired of the bickering" she answered honestly.

"You're not pulling Theo out of anything, he's doing okay at school and you swooping in will just make things worse. GOD can't I just talk to you about me without it having to be all about everyone else!" she huffed with that signature teenage temper tantrum.

"No, it's always about my dad being the bad guy and Kat failing, can't even talk about my future." She kicked a rock towards a trash can. There! That will teach you, stupid trashcan!

"It's you too. Always answering problems with your fists...and bat." her arms were crossed in front of her chest.

"Sorry." Lian apologized for her outburst. She had to be more emotionally intelligent than that. "I'm just frustrated, didn't mean to snap at you." She leaned against the dirty wall to stare at her feet.

"Can I have a smoke?"

"If I tell you about my boyfriend can you promise to be super cool about it. Like chill about it."

Jack gave her a nod. She always was a smart girl, his niece. She may not be blood related, but that didn't matter to him. Lian was family, and that was final. He got to his car, opening the door for her to get in, shutting it as he walked around to the driver's side, taking off his Jackal mask, tossing it in the glove compartment.

"You'll do great, Lian. You're a smart young woman." He reassured her. She definitely had it planned out. "Yea, sure, munchkin. I got a condo in New York already. It's spacious enough for a small family to live in if needed. I'll give you the address and help you move in. You can even redecorate the bedroom to what you prefer I'll pay."

He took another drag of his smoke, starting the car as it roared to life, driving them to the ice cream shoppe. "I just need to know the truth. Are you distracted by a boy? You know if anyone breaks your heart, I'll give him a talking to just like Theo would.."

He ashed his smoke as they arrived, and he parked the car. "How bad is it getting at home?" He looked directly at her. "If you're wanting to leave Gotham and take your brother with you..tell me, Lian." Jack was already ready to beat Roy if he was causing the kids trauma behind the scenes. "Your stepmother I know can be hard to live with too when she's struggling, but she loves you, Lian. If she's crossed a line, I need to know, and I'll pull you and Theo out of Gotham tonight.."

She took one more glance at all that mess, not the first massacre she'd witness and it wouldn't be the last. "Don't tell them what?" she answered in agreement that she saw nothing.

"Uncle can we talk?" she requested as they walked. "I'm nervous about finals. I've been kinda distracted." There was a boy that made her distracted. "No that's not it, I am nervous and I have been distracted but..."

Words were hard!

"I've been thinking that I kinda want to go to university. My maths teacher thinks I can apply for a gymnastics scholarship ...and if I do well on my exams I can apply for one of these girls in STEM scholarships maybe but I'd still need money...and I don't know how to tell mom&dad that I kinda wanna go to New York to study."

She kinda word vomited all of that without a single breath.

"I'm good with numbers. Lian Harper....Actuary kinda has a ring to it don't you think uncle?Get a degree, get a bookeeping job for a while, work on applying for conservation jobs" She had dreams of leaving home and getting a 'normal' life.

"Theo kinda knows. But not the New York part. But I kinda think I can set up there and he can come for a while when he finishes high school." Away from Roy and Kat's arguing.

"Would you help me if I got a scholarship? Set up my apartment and stuff? Not like money but like...come with me for a bit. Mom and dad wouldn't be able to leave cause Theo is still in school...and they would be too dramatic about everything. Dad specially but you know how Kat gets when dad freaks out about things."
