The barbarian scoffs.

"No. Do I look like I need to use a lighter weapon to you? Look, I can get why people use them. They don't have the muscle to swing slabs of steel around, they got different styles, they don't like the look, so on and so on. I get it. But one thing that those tiny weapons'll never have is that satisfying oomph when I crush something with a swing."

Another rush of laughter rolls from Carmela. "No, no, I understand," she assures her guest, "you can never be too safe, especially when coming to the home of a stranger. Admittedly, I am interested in your abilities. However, I want those to be shared, not taken."

She offers a warm and reassuring smile as she pulls Natalia through the doorway and against her frame. As she passes through, the witch may feel the enchantment magic attempt to subtly take effect. Her stomach may growl, reflecting her sudden hunger. She may find herself needing to actively catch herself from engaging in intrusive thoughts, her inhibitions dampened. However, Carmela seems to pay the same effects little mind, so how terrible could they really be?

"The dining room is one of the grander rooms in my estate," the hostess begins, "my family has always been keen on hosting feasts for our guests. My personal favorite one is during the harvest season, when my home opens its doors to my citizens as a means to thank them for their hard work. Though, for unofficial events, I adore sharing this grandiose room with my guests."

Carmela continues to hold Natalia close to her as they walk; she hasn't let go of the other woman's hand yet. Her own warmth is apparent at this distance, comfortable in the slight chill of the antique home. The hostess guides her guest through the large dining room, slowly but surely, as they approach another door just past the midpoint of the room.

"Though you as my host may have no ill-intent, there's plenty who would love to pry their hands into my artes and magic." Natalia tries not to take the other's accusation of being sneaky too seriously, it's a little tease that the witch shoots her eyes to the side with a tinge of embarrassment.

If she is incorrect, then it's a folly on her part. "A rather sneaky suggestive thing itself then?"

"I'm merely cautious, besides what would my student think of me if I were to fall prey to such charms."

Natalia takes the offered invitation, for now she'll avoid touching the doors as that seems to have no effect. Allowing herself to be guided in, trying to simply enjoy the moment with this increasingly curious host.

"Why, a night that I enjoy. Simple, isn't it? I suppose I could humor you with a real answer, though. It depends on my mood whether I want to spend the night alone or with another. But, if I have to pick what I enjoy on the most average evening, it's a private trip to a hot spring to soak my work's wear and tear from my lovely skin."

oc lore + marianne

The Lore (tm)

Marianne is a bit on the opposite end of Carmela. Her family's position was equivalent to a Marquess...before her country's revolution foisted most of the nobles from their positions and forced those that wanted to survive to flee. Now, while she is enjoying the freedoms that come with her commoner life, Marianne wants to restore her once noble status, to again climb the ranks. Be that for pride, for security, or for her own enjoyments.

The Lore (tm)

Carmela's place in aristocracy is as a Baroness in a much more rural region of Cheliax/equivalent. Her family has been such for generations, not really moving in either direction on the social ladder. Carmela herself is happy to uphold the tradition, not wanting the annoyances that come with being under increased supervision by both the public and the government. She's fairly content managing her towns, mines, forests, and sole port. All of them produce enough revenue for her to keep the status quo of indulgence.
