William had already heard walking into the kitchen before she called. “Hey back”, he said, his gaze breaking from the food he was cooking to watch her briefly before he nodded. “Are you hungry? I wasn’t sure if you do get hungry, and if the answer was positive, what you liked, so I decided for pancakes”, he said a bit shyly. How to say ‘thank you’ to the person who saved Aria’s life, and for that to happen had to die. Food seemed like a good ice breaker for any conversation, including that one. 

Evie took a step back to lean her back against the wall. “I’m not going to say no to pancakes but shouldn’t you be making them for your girl?” She asked. Evie had figured that Aria may not be so happy about her new situation or with Will for leaving her in that situation with Evie around.

Cameron listened to what Evie had to say, smiling slightly at all the work she had to find him. He couldn’t help but be a little confused. Cam thought Evie had left him again. So why would she “I also hate how we left things.” He sighed. “Which is why I left Mystic Falls. I went home one night and you weren’t there. Your things were gone, there was no sign of you anywhere, At first I thought it had been Klaus, so I went to New Orleans to ask him. You weren’t there either. There was no hiding from Klaus anymore and he figure out there was something between us.” Cam sighed. “For some reason he didn’t kill me, but he did one thing he thought would mess things up for me. He gave me back my memories of Laura.” Cam looked down at the table as he spoke. “I guess his plan was to make me realize I love you less, I guess? Make me give up on you.” He scoffed. “It actually made me relize I love you more, Evie. And you leaving? It hurts like hell.”

“My things were gone? Huh...” Clearly the people who took her actually did a good job of hiding it but at the same time she wasn’t that surprised given how they were with her. Her attention was quick to drift away from that thought given that he mentioned Klaus. Instead, she stopped and listened fully and when he seemed like he finished, she stood up and moved to sit next to him in the booth. “I didn’t leave, at least, not by choice. I’ve had a hell of a few months and what was getting me through it was the thought of coming back to you.” She took his hand, looking up to his eyes. “I love you, Cam.” She leaned in and pressed her lips against his.

Evie felt like it took her so long to find her way to Death and get herself back to her body. It was tedious at this point to say the least. Finally, she woke up to another unfamiliar surrounding. It was more homely than it had been in recent times but that didn’t make her entirely comfortable to trust where she was. She chose not to drink the water and took her time to quietly stretch out her body. She could hear some kind of movement in the house but she wasn’t entirely sure whereabouts. She walked quietly out in to the hall way and followed the sounds until she reached the kitchen and found Will. “Hey.” She breathed out. 

After finding Evienne dead at Aria’s, William took her to his house and laid her on Sofia’s bed. He cleaned around the ugly gash on her neck, and took her in before leaving her to do her healing. He stayed in, watching over her during her ressucting process. WIll could see the color coming back to her features, and then her chest moving up and down in a slow, deep breathing. She would be waking up soon. As he arranged the har of water and the glass by the nightstand imagining she’s be thirsty when she’d awake, he wondered if the cure even needed to drink anything, or if she eat at all. He shook his head, but left the jar behind before walking back to the kitchen, working on cooking something for them. Who knows, maybe even the cure needed to have something on her stomach after being back from the dead.

Cameron only smiled at her for a while, before sighing deeply. “Not that I’m not happy to see you, because I am. I really am.” Cameron still missed Evie, still loved her and she still took his breath away. “But…Why are you here? And how exactly did you find me?” He would bet Spencer would’ve said something to Evie about Cam’s whereabouts. 

Evie looked at him for a moment before answering. “To the first question, I hated how we left things and when I went back to the apartment, it felt empty without you in it.” She confessed without mentioning anything about what she had been through. There was much more to say on why she found herself back to Cam. “As for the second, social media really isn’t that difficult to understand. You didn’t post anything but some guy you met here tagged you in something and there may have been a bit of a deep dive on his profile and then someone elses for an exact location on the bar while also coming here for the past two nights and... and I’m beginning to sound a little psychotic now so I’m going to stop there.”

“What’s that like? Having Satan for a brother?” She laughed, only for it to catch in her throat and make her cough. After that, she listened to the best of her ability, which wasn’t much considering there was a piercing whistle in her ears and vision that was tragically out of focus. She kept her hands flat on the counter in an attempt to grab onto some balance. “Well,” she breathed out, smiling a little. “I appreciate the honesty.” And she did, Aria always prefered blunt people to those who danced around how they really felt. She was under no illusion this woman wanted to help her, she was only trying to pay up her debt to William. “Like I said, his sister wants the cure, I don’t. If you want to pay up then you should go to her and then go on your way–” she spoke, but felt absent with her own words as her body twisted in the direction of a voice and figure in the doorway. “Lottie?” Aria frowned, growling and gripping her head, some part of her knew it wasn’t real but the distress her mind and body were in couldn’t help but cave and fall under the spell of the hallucination. “Riri, you must help me.” The sister pleaded, pulling Aria from her stool. “Anything, what do you need?” Wavering steps, trying to reach the petite sister that wasn’t even there. “Him.” Her vision of Lottie pointed towards Evie, only when Aria looked towards her, she didn’t see the woman, she saw her ex, stood tall and proud with a dagger in his grasp. “He killed me once, Riri, don’t let him do it again.” Lottie was pleading and when Aria started to stumble and lose her breath, it was the sight of her sisters’ tears and pull on her arm that made her feel so fiercely protective, she scooted the younger Hale behind her and stared at her ex with veiny eyes and fangs on full display. Naturally, reality had completely eluded her to the point where she couldn’t hear or see anything but him and her sister, her baby sister who she needed to protect. In a flash, she reached him(evie) swinging a fist at his jaw, a kick to his gut and finally, fangs sinking deep into his(her) neck. Aria didn’t stop till he was drained and once he was, she dropped the body and looked up to see her sister, only to find an empty doorway. “Lottie?” She whispered, stepping forward just to trip over Evie’s body. Aria twisted around, seeing Evie as herself and not her ex, her jaw swung open, the reality of what she’d just done crashed back and she looked at her arm that was already knitting together and healing. “Oh.. fuck.” She murmured, eyes blinking, losing focus until the cure that was now in her blood rendered her unconscious. 

“He wasn’t… wrong to fall. Our father wasn’t as right as he could have been. That’s why I escaped Heaven to be a human which.. didn’t entirely work out for me.” She referenced herself becoming the cure and being eternal. Possibly a fate worse than death. “That’s his and her decision to make, not mine.” She told the other. Will hadn’t asked her to come in here to try and make her take the cure, she’d be very honest about that but he hadn’t mentioned anything about his sister and she wasn’t going to force his sister to take the cure either. It wasn’t her decision to make. When she said a different name, she narrowed her eyes for a second before clicking that it was a hallucination. However, the second her eyes turned back to Evie, Evie knew what was going to happen. She didn’t try to fight her off when she came at her. It was easier to just let it happen because in the end, it was almost bound to happen anyway. She’d just be wasting energy by trying to fight it. Shortly after, everything went black and now she began her path to find Death to return back to the land of the living.

“William likes to think he takes action with the influence of his mind but in reality, he leads with his heart. Of course, he wants you to convince me to live. He’s tired of loss and he doesn’t want to lose me too.” It wasn’t a suspicion or a question, she knew. “He won’t ask you to do anything that could blind my mind and make me drink from you. He respects my choice, even if he hates it and even if he wishes I will change my mind.” Aria smiled softly, sitting on the stool and resting her arms on the cold counter. She was sweating, pale and physically, everything hurt. “Yes, I’m not unfamiliar with what happens on the otherside. I know what I’m signing up for.” And though she didn’t say it, she thought ‘it’s no less than i deserve’. “1988, June, I walked into a bar for a drink. Normal day, good mood… I just wanted to relax. And then this guy, he comes up to me and he doesn’t take no for an answer. Typical of men, really, isn’t it? But instead of walking away, I smashed my glass. I picked up two shards and I rammed them into his eyes. And then I drained him of his blood. Instead of compelling the nine people to forget, I bolted the door and for every one of them that tried to escape, I slaughtered. And before you tell me I remember it because I feel regret, you’re wrong. I remember it because it was fun.” She whispered, gasping mockingly and then smirking towards her. “I enjoyed it. So you see, I’m ready to face the consequences for my actions. I’m under no illusion that I deserve anything else and I think that dying gives William his best chance. He shouldn’t be with me in a constant battle, trying to remind me of my humanity, trying to save me… He deserves more. He doesn’t understand it from my side of things and maybe neither opinion is the right one, but I love him. And it took me so long to stop fighting that thought… And it’s because I love him that I’m content in my decision. I’m setting him free. I could never be the person he believes I am. Not as a vampire, not as a human.” 

“I’m not surprised. How he talks says everything about it. You don’t live as long as I have without being able to read people.” She shrugged. Honestly, because of this factor, it wasn’t hard to tell that Aria preferred being a vampire and the fact that she would rather die than be a human again said enough that she didn’t need a story. “I’m not saying you don’t deserve it. Look, for a long time as an archangel, I believed there was simply good and evil. Black and white. Then my brother fell and became the devil and I saw there wasn’t such a thing as just good and just evil... just shades of grey.” She explained. “I don’t condone what you did to innocent lives by any means. If you yourself was coming to me to take the cure after knowing that, I would absolutely not heal you hence why I am more than happy to sit here and wait for you to die just to serve Will’s need for you to have company while you die.” She crossed her arms. “And honestly, I have died repeatedly for the past however many months, over and over. So I really couldn’t care less if you want to live or you want to do. I’m just doing this one thing so that I can then leave and be free.”

“Yeah”, William agreed. It seemed that everything about angels were all fucked up, “I’m sorry, that this happened to you. If we have free will, so should you angels have too”, he said, eyes on the road as they approached Aria’s. Will nodded, “Thank you, I’ll remember that”, he promised and climbed off from the car. He hated to admit this, but if it came to Aria threatening him, the chances of getting himself killed were high, and if he was alone in this world, he’d go with her… But he wouldn’t be stupid to leave his sisters alone on this damned town.

He had no idea for how long he had stayed inside the house, but as he walked back to the car, he had his sight blurred with the tears. Leaving her behind hurt him like hell, but he knew it’d hurt Aria harder if she was responsible for his death. Shutting the door hard on his side, he look down, avoiding eye contact with Evienne while he was fucking angry. “She doesn’t want it”, he said after a moment, “She wants to die, she thinks she deserves to die as a vampire, that she didn’t deserve to be happy”, he let a bitter laugh out. Hazel eyes finally turned to Evienne, “I know you have nothing to do with it, but can you stay with her? Talk to her… I just don’t want her to be alone when she’s gone”

Evie waited. When he returned she raised an eyebrow. She didn’t bother to ask what was wrong and gave him his own time to speak. Honestly though, when he spoke, she felt bad. Not for his situation or what was happening. She felt bad that she didn’t feel much at all. Maybe it was still the coldness lingering from her last death and the months of psychological and physical harm done to herself but she wasn’t emotional about any of it. “You know the kindest thing you could have done for her was kill her, right?” She told him. “You’re leaving her in more harm like this. She’s going to suffer in her final moments and when she’s gone, she’s going to be alone.” She finally let out a sigh and shook her head. “Yeah, okay, I’ll talk to her.” She pushed herself from leaning on the car and made her way to the house.

“Yeah, just give me a minute I might start calling you mother.” She rolled her eyes, really, it wasn’t even a joke. Being around her was dangerous when she could snap in a second flat. “I see. Did he also tell you I’m not interested?” Aria wandered into the kitchen. It was the coolest place in the house and given that she felt like she was cooking from the inside, the cold air was welcome. “His sister on the other hand, she never wanted to be a vampire. If you really want to repay him, her name is Sofia.” She wasn’t sure if Will mentioned it, so she thought she would, it was the only reason she allowed her inside in the first place. “You see, I don’t fear death either. I’ve been like this too long to go back to being human and just for the record, I don’t deserve that chance, either.” Nobody would ever convince her otherwise. She’d done too many terrible things to get a happy ending. With a little stumble, she knocked the glass off the counter and cringed; the sound was piercing, at least, to her it was. Too loud, too bright, everything hurt, everything blurred and echoed as though she had drunk a barrel of whiskey and all she could do was feel it. Not her finest hour, for sure. Werewolf bites were graceless deaths. 

Evie smiled just ever so slightly at the brunette’s wit with everything going on. She took a seat and shrugged. “He did and he asked me to be here. I don’t know why. The more humane thing would be to kill you if that is so what you wished. Maybe he wants me to convince you to give life a chance without asking that of me. And I could get you to drink from me. Cut my wrist. My blood is euphoric, blah blah blah...” She looked back to her and listened. “Maybe he’ll ask that of me next.” She considered. Evie didn’t know. A few hours ago, she was being prodded and poked with needles and now she was with a vampire with hallucinations. “Death isn’t the person you should fear.” She began. “It’s the other side you should fear. When you die, it isn’t just a fade to darkness. It’s an eternity on your own. Drives people quite insane you know. More insane than a werewolf bite is loneliness. There’s no sound at all. Just silence. And the worst part about that is because you’re a vampire, you don’t even get the solace of your own heart beat.” She explained. “I just think you should know about where you’re heading since you’ve chosen to pass on.”

Evie wandered in to the room and looked at the girl. “Fuck knows.” She answered pretty simply. She didn’t actually know what got Will to where she had ended up. She let her ponder the fact for a moment. “You’re surprisingly coherent for a werewolf bitten vampire.” Evie commented. “It’s not the first time I’ve died, Aria. Death and I are like old friends nowadays. After months of dying over and over, what’s one more death? I owe it to Will for saving me anyway.”

“no guesses who you are.” in spite of her annoyance, she was tired, so she simply stepped aside and allowed the brunette to come in. “how did he even find you?” she did wonder. “and why would you want to help me? given the fact you must die to do it.” frowning, aria was crabby, defensive and just exhausted. but she believed she had enough energy to keep her shit together and have a conversation before asking her to leave. however foolish that was. it wasn’t like she knew the timeframe for a wolf bite when it came to herself. “yes, i’m suspicious. hope you don’t mind.”

After all the hell Cameron had been through, he decided he needed a really long vacation. Klaus had been too busy with his daughter and his plans with the vampires in New Orleans. Cam was finally free. At least for a while. He had been in Mexico for the past week and the only people he remained in contact with was his mother and his sister. It was a surprise to see Evie in front of his table. “He can’t say be that amazing.” He said with a small smile. Last time he heard from Evie she had left him. “You’re a little too far from Mystic Falls, aren’t you?”

Evie slid in to sit opposite him. “Clearly you’ve not met him or you’d know he’s just the best person I’ve met in my whole eternity.” She smiled to him, pouring them both a drink. “Trust me, I am glad to see the back of that place right now.”

Evie had been free from her cage for a few weeks. She probably would have done this sooner if she wasn’t dealing with her demons. She tracked Cam down without much hassle. A quick scroll on Facebook and it wasn’t hard to find him travelling. She followed the breadcrumbs which led her to a bar in Mexico. She paid for the bottle of wine and grabbed two glasses before heading to the table that Cam was at. “You know, you look just like someone I know.” She smiled. “Mind if I sit? I’ll tell you all about this guy and how amazing he is?”

William blinked a few times, just like the blonde man meme, when Evienne said she was an archangel. He had met an angel once, and he was an ass. The woman by his side was more powerful than that douche. Perhaps, she was the most powerful creature he had met. “It must suck being you. I suppose a lot of people come and ask you to die, when you’re not being studied like a guinea pig”, Will shrugged, guessing this was what they were doing to her back in the place he rescued her from. Once he saw Mystic Falls down the road, he allowed himself to relax a bit. “Thank you, for saving my girl”, he smiled shyly. “Before you meet her, I’d like to talk with her alone first. She can be difficult in normal circunstances, I have no idea how much the werewolf venom has messed with her so far”

“Fucked up, isn’t it?” She shrugged. “I never asked for any of this. I just wanted to be among the humans. I wanted humanity and I got this.” She sighed but ended up shaking her head. “No problem, and just be careful. Vampires with werewolf venom are pretty dangerous when the hallucinations hit. Wouldn’t want you to go all this way to get killed at the final hurdle.”

William was comfortable with the silence between them. He just drove, knowing each mile he went, he was close to save the woman of his life. If Evienne didn’t want to talk, that was okay. Once in a while, he checked the rear mirror, in case anyone from the place he had broken her free was following them. So far, so good. He frowned a bit when she end the silence. She what? He didn’t say anything, finding any meaning to the words she said. “So you have to die to cure someone?”, he spat, hating the sound of it. “Are you cursed? Is there someone else like you?”, he questioned her. William couldn’t help but to feel bad for her. He was trying to save someone, and knowing he was going to hurt an innocent in the process left a bitter taste in his mouth. He also wanted to give this cure to his sisters. Sofia wasn’t meant to be a vampire, the only reason why she completed the transformation was for them. And Maddie… Hell, even her boyfriend deserved a chance to be happy, and cured from his heretic condition. Madeline also deserved a happy life, with a good guy. He sighed. It didn’t feel fair.

Evie shook her head in response to his question. “I was an archangel... back when Lucifer was an archangel.” She explained. “He may have lost his way but he wasn’t entirely wrong to fall. I escaped heaven through the fountain of youth and in the process, clipped my wings and removed my grace to stop them finding me. I was the archangel of healing and I guess it didn’t fully leave me... it just made me this.” She crossed her arms. Lately, she had been wishing to be an angel again just so the angels could actually kill her rather than this eternal purgatory. Her head wrapped around the melancholy thought for longer than it should have before finally, shrugging. “Let’s heal your girlfriend.”

William frowned, confused for a moment until he started to place the pieces together. She didn’t have to tell him twice, as soon as she told him to drive, he started the car, the engine roaring as he made their way back to Aria. He had been gone far too long for his taste, and he couldn’t wait to be back to her side again. “You are the cure, aren’t you?”, he questioned her. It made sense. She was under some heavy protection, and looked like a lab rat. “I know I won’t live forever, but I know a place you’ll be safe, witches won’t be able to locate you, demons and other things won’t bother you either”

Again, she didn’t choose to confirm or deny it. She just remained staring forwards for quite some time. She didn’t reply for quite some time. Enough time for a awkward silence to take place. “I’m done trying to play it safe. I just want to go away and live a life until I have my next meeting with Death. He’s not so bad after the millionth visit.” She shrugged. It was morbid and Will could take that as a joke if he wished but it was just the sad reality of being the cure. She had to die for the cure to work and after this one, she just wanted a bit of freedom. She didn’t want to be stuck in a room where nothing could find her, not even a human. She just wanted to travel and continue seeing the world. She just wanted to be alive for a small moment in her eternal existence. “Once she’s drained me, just leave me on a bed or a couch or something for a few hours. Depends when I can find my way back but I’ll come back eventually and then I’ll be gone.”

William nodded, “Yes, hybrid bite”, he said, “We were walking one night, and she was protecting me from the hybrid in wolf form”, he said and turned his gaze back to the woman. “I could be driving to New Orleans now and get the cure for that as we speak, but in all honesty, it wouldn’t heal anything. Aria believes vampirism is the punishment she deserves for what happened to her family, and I believe she’s wrong. She doesn’t deserve death, she doesn’t deserve to be a vampire. She deserves to be happy, to live the life she was supposed to live”, he looked down, holding himself together before turning to look at Evie again. “Please, if you know how to get the cure, just tell me and I’ll drive wherever we need. I promise to keep you protected for the rest of your life, so whoever was hurting you would never touch you again. I have a house, far away from this town and this mess, and it will be yours if you point me to the right direction”

Evienne listened carefully. She shook her head ever so slightly when he offered to keep her safe for the rest of her life. “You won’t live long enough to keep me safe.” She returned and crossed her arms, leaning back in to the seat. “Drive me to her.” She gave in to help him. “I can’t promise we’ll be in time but it’s worth a try.”

Will moved and got into the car too. Time was a luxury now. The longer they stayed there and not moved to get the cure, the closer Aria was to her death. “I heard a lot of things. That it’s something to kill some type of vampire. That it is an unlimited source, that it is a person”, he eyed her, wondering if that could even be possible. “One hunter even told me it was the saint graal”, he laughed and looked down. “All I know, is that the cure is the only thing that could save the woman I love”

Her eyes stayed facing forward and not taking a second to look at him while she thought. The cards were in Evie’s hands now and she wasn’t going to give them away so easily. Maybe if she hadn’t been tortured for the past few months, her humanity might have been a little more willing to cooperate with his final part. “Let me guess; werewolf bite?” It was usually why people wanted the cure. If it was something supernatural dying and needing saving, that was the only reason she could think of and by no means, would she be wanting to go anywhere near Klaus.

“Honestly, I don’t even know what they are exactly”, William told her and moved towards the car. He eyed her, and sighed. He didn’t have much time. “Right now, I want you to get inside the car so I can take you somewhere you’ll be safe”, he said without hesitation. “And while I drive you far from here, you’ll tell me where I can get the cure, and how does it work”, he said and opened the door for her to climb in.

Evie didn’t move straight away. It wasn’t until he mentioned what he wanted from her that she actually took interest in what he wanted. Considering he wanted the cure, he didn’t know a thing about the cure. He clearly didn’t know that she was the cure. He thought she was just a means to it. “Fine.” She finally said and got herself in to the passenger seat and seat belted up. “Okay then, William, what exactly do you know about the cure already?”
