Aeditha had heard a commotion coming from one of the stalls and she had had walked closer to see what had happened. Her eyes widened at the sight of the man on the ground and the woman standing over him. “Wait, what are you doing? Are you really going to kill him because his wares are too much? Doesn’t that seem a little excessive?”
Squirming, like a fat worm. Could be one! Blubbering, eyes wide. Deserving her heel; oh his squishy self would splatter the ground quite nicely. And maybe f l o w e r s would grow over that ground and they’d attract more worms, and they’d someday INFEST the whole kingdom! Pitiful. Tilting her head in the direction of the other person who had just come up to the stall, Nexxis explained with a voice as sharp as the dagger cold against her breast yet as smooth as molasses,“Merchant here sellin’ wares too high a price. What’d you think, hm? Pay pig’s price, or find a butcher?”

nylaperran:
there is a dilemma tearing at her heart in this moment - pulling her into pieces. on one side there is the fact her heritage is naught but scraps here, some dim flickering light meant to be snuffed ‘till there is no faint glow left. on the other? to disobey a visitor by refusing to speak of her past would surely result in nothing good. “ - what would you like to know, ma’am?” soft voice questions.
Aeditha chewed on her lower lip for a moment while she waited for a response. “What was your home like? Was it like any of the homes here?” The questions spilled from her lips as soon as she thought of them, for fear that she would suddenly become too nervous to ask them or spend forever trying to think of the right one to say.

it seems to nyla an empty platitude - she has heard them before and will hear them again. usually from soft-hearted palace visitors. i’m sorry you have to do this, dear - how dreadful this must be for you - i’m sure one day you’ll be able to move to a better position. false apologies for things they feel bad about witnessing but never bad enough to actually do anything to aid her. it’s like feeling sorry for a trapped rabbit and eating it anyway while apologizing all the while about how nice it would be if the rabbit could be free again. “thank you for your kindness and understanding, ma’am. i will not speak so to you again, my sincerest apologies for any disquiet i have caused.”
“No” she said quickly “Please, you haven’t caused any disquiet. I really want to know more.” Aeditha pleaded as she looked at the other woman trying to think of a way that she could convince her to keep talking. “If you don’t wish to speak to me anymore though, I’d understand. I just wish that I could find out a way to help you.”

none in these walls speak of elven culture - rather choosing to see nyla’s people as lesser, as savages and slaves. it feels wrong to speak of it. it feels dangerous, like she will be punished for daring to speak of her own history and sing songs in her own tongue. “ - the fall of aldbay. why the creators did not - aid the people of old. how we were forced to flee or be taken as slaves, forced into shackles and carted away from our homes by huma - i should not speak of such things, ma’am, i apologize.” there had been fire in her voice until she cuts herself off, stepping back a half step. eyes that had risen to lock with the lady’s fall again, gaze tracing the stone floors. “please, pardon me. it was wrong of me to - to speak so unkindly.”
Her smile faded and a small frown quickly took its place. Aeditha was speechless, she had heard stories about Elfs for as long as she could remember but she had never actually heard any stories from them themselves. This woman standing in front of her seemed so upset though and Aeditha wished that there was some way she could make everything better. “You don’t have to apologise” she said softly “You should be able to express your emotions. I can’t even imagine how awful that must be.”

“i am no translator, ma’am,” nyla begins in a soft yet wary sort of voice, nervousness evident in ducked head and averted eyes. “but i supposed the closest would be, ah - trek of the people.” it’s a rough translation - far less meaningful than it is in her true tongue.

“That’s alright,” Aeditha said with a smile noticing that the other woman looked a little uncomfortable. “It sounds like a nice song. What’s it about? If you don’t mind me asking.”

There was no need for words, so River inclined her head at the thanks. Though an appreciative smile rested on her lips. Not many who came to stay at the inn were particularly polite, ranging from mercenaries to nobles, though most always civil. Telling by the other woman’s appearance, River could only assume she was born into an upper station in life. “Hardly horrible,” she reassured firstly, and squinted with a playful scrunch of her nose, a sign she was considering her words so as not to be rude. “But you do look a little e x h a u s t e d. May I ask what your day entailed?”
Aeditha smiled softly “Well I’m glad that I don’t look horrible, even though I do feel it.” She rubbed one of her eyes at the women’s question even thinking about what she had done that day made her feel tired. “I’ve just been travelling all day which usually doesn’t make me feel too bad but I think maybe because I’m almost home I’m feeling worse than I normally would.” Aeditha said with a shrug as she took another sip of her drink.

she’s been so lost in her own head, in the ebbing and flowing of the rhythm that she’s been humming, that nyla did not even notice another being in the hall until words are spoken. the woman startles and turns quickly - falling into a bow at the sight of fine skirts and rich fabrics. “thank you, ma’am.” words fall soft and quick from her lips at the compliment. “i - there is no title in any language spoken here, ma’am.”
“Oh” Aeditha said with a sigh, a little disappointed. The song had sounded so lovely and she wished that she could hear it again one day. “Is the title similar something in any of the other languages?” she asked curiously.

nylaperran:
soft, lilting humming fills the air around her - the sound so quiet one must listen close to fully catch the noise. careful fingers run a cloth across the frames of paintings on the walls as nyla hums quietly to herself. she doesn’t like the oppressive silence otherwise empty castle walls creates. in fact, any silence at all makes her skin crawl. at home, in the wood, there was never silence. out there one can hear the breath of life the earth creates, the feet of animals, the creak of wind in trees, the sound of distant brooks and streams. that sound is smothered here, so she hums the melody of an old song about the creators her father used to sing ( with nyla playing the harp and her mother the lute, her grandmother tapping beat out on her knees ) to fill the void of sound.
Aeditha had been wandering around the castle by herself for the past half an hour even though she wasn’t quite sure if she was allowed to be doing that. Her skirts made a swishing sound as she walked down the long hallway, moving slowly so that she could take everything in. Aeditha suddenly heard someone humming but it was so quiet she wondered whether she had just imagined it. She took a step forward but heard it again, she looked around her and saw a woman cleaning the paintings. Aeditha walked a little closer hoping that she wouldn’t startle her “Hello, I’m sorry to disturb you but I was just wondering what song it is that you’re humming? It sounds very beautiful.”

valene’s hand immediately move to support her back, eyes scanning the well dressed woman for any clue as to what could have happened. “’m afraid not, miss, i was just walking and i saw you lying here in the snow,” any question that came to her seemed useless, as the lady seemed just as clueless as she was about this entire instance. “i’m no healer, but, do you faint often? or perhaps the cold air got to your head?” her arm is wrapped around her shoulder in an attempt to keep her upright and warm, concern clear in her eyes.
“No, I’ve never fainted before, well I suppose until just now.” Aeditha’s head was starting a clear a little bit more and she could remember walking and feeling a little dizzy but could she had fainted because of that? At the woman’s other question her brow furrowed slightly. She was wearing a cloak that didn’t provide as much warmth as she thought it would but Aeditha doubted that that could be the cause. “I don’t think so, I’m only a little cold and I think that’s because I have snow starting to run down my neck. Thank you though for coming to see if I was alright.”

“I can hardly help when i can not understand you.” Odylle sighed heavily and gestured toward the girl “Slowly this time, go on.”
Aeditha took a deep breath and tried to calm her nerves before she spoke again “I was just saying that your kingdom was very beautiful and that I wished that I had come here sooner.”

“’re you alright?” she lowers herself, hands already cautiously hovering over the figure of the fallen person at her feet. “can you hear me?” she could feel the cautious gaze of her guards while they hovered a ways away. long, thin fingers press into the shoulder of the person at her feet in a motion to shake them gently, concern etched into her features, knitting her brow.
Aeditha groaned as she opened her eyes slowly, the voice above her startled her and she tried to sit up a little but her head was swimming too much for Aeditha to get very far. She had no idea how she had suddenly ended up lying on the ground. “I- Do you know how I ended up here?”

“ No judging here, ” the raven-haired woman replied with a harmless wink, silent on how deep her words ran. She reached underneath for the elven white wine - a customer favorite and a r e m i n d e r of her past. River poured a glass, sliding it over carefully before propping her elbows on the counter, “ Long day, I’m taking it? ”
“Thank you” Aeditha said before she took a small sip of her wine, enjoying the warmth that was starting to spread throughout her body. She nodded, a smile appearing on her face “Yes it has been, was it really that easy to tell? Or I do I just look horrible?”

the important bit that he’d plucked from her quaking voice, laced with bolts of shock, was that it wasn’t the result of a drunken brawl started with a smashed empty bottle. he turned briefly, consulting with the guards nearby, and then stood in thoughtful silence as they scattered through the various narrow pathways in-between houses, clutching the hilts of their swords. with a wheel of his ankle, he returned to the woman, his duty-worn gaze melting under a wave of empathy. “are you alright, milady?”
She could only nod in response to his question, the words she had been meaning to say were suddenly stuck in the back of her throat. “I’m fine” Aeditha finally managed to say after a few moments “I’m just a little overwhelmed. I thought that I could save him.” She looked down at the ground and noticed for the first time that her hands were covered in blood and she quickly hid them underneath her cloak. “Do you think they’ll be able to find whoever did this?”

“Slow down.” The Queen warned, her eyes narrowing in on the person before her “I can not understand a thing you’re saying.”
“Oh I’m sorry Your Grace, I didn’t realise..” Aeditha said softly a flush quickly spreading across her cheeks. “Sometimes I get a little nervous is all.”

“Don’t move. There’s a butterfly on your head.” She blurted, reaching carefully the other’s hair to catch one of the insect’s blue wings. Vainly, for it flew through the wind when she got too close. Her eyes went from inexhaustible dazzling to disappointment way too fast. “Well, at least it means that you’ll have great fortune for the next three days. My late grandma told me that. You lucky bastard.”
Aeditha resisted the urge to try and see the butterfly for herself and insted stood very still hoping that the other woman would be able to catch it. She sighed softly when she a saw a glimpse of it flying away. “Oh really? I’ve never heard of that before. Though I wish the fortune could last for longer than three days. Maybe I could try and chase it?”

visentoflay:
it all started out as a simple stroll, a patrol of sorts. a few rounds back and forth, mostly out of boredom, but also because he much preferred the feeling of the ground under his feet and the commotion of the people. castle walls were cold and demanding and not cold the way he remembered it from childhood. now, there he stood, standing above the sight of a motionless man, sprawled on the ground at the entrance of a tavern with a deep wound gushing at his throat. not a man, he thought, a corpse.
visent’s eyes rose, embellished in threads of blue iron, and leaped from one person to another amid the circle that had formed around the victim. it took him a moment, but his speech was absolute. “who is to blame for this?”
Aeditha had just come out of the tavern stumbling a little as she pulled her cloak tighter around herself. Suddenly she heard a scream and saw a man fall to the ground as a figure in the shadows ran away. She ran to the man and crouched down next to him trying to stop the bleeding but it was too late. A wave of nausea washed over and she tried to ignore it while she stood up. The sound of another person’s voice made her jump “Oh I-I’m not sure. The person ran away so quickly.” Aeditha stammered not knowing if the man was addressing her.

tessa-vil:
Tessa’s nose had been buried in her book for most of the afternoon. Her brother had left to try to find a job and she’d been stuck at the Inn most of the day. Truthfully she’d gone a little stir crazy sitting around. There wasn’t too many places to go to between the one room they had and the small main room. She wanted to go outside but she promised to stay put, the promises was wearing thin as the minutes ticked by. Sitting at one of the tables in the Inn she only looked as someone sat down at the table with her. A confused look washed over her face as she looked at her new companion. “Hello…”
Aeditha glanced around the busy inn for a moment trying to find a place to sit down. There was an empty seat next to a woman who looked absorbed in a book, she didn’t want to interrupt her in the slightest but Aeditha was so tired that she wasn’t sure that she could stand upright for much longer. She moved closer to the table and sat down as quietly as she possibly could “Oh hello, I didn’t mean to disturb you, it’s just that there aren’t any other free seats. I hope you don’t mind.”
