Hi guys!!!! I've been rlly delayed w/my June Art Month challenge posts. I've been trying to make something rlly nice for day 14 (fave fandom) but there have been some roadblocks. I will be posting the next few in the meantime :)

I just want to read books, Amazon is deranged.

Books on Libby have started disappearing.

My friend pointed it out first, and then I started noticing too. Why would books that multiple libraries definitely, 100% had digital access to a couple of months/weeks/days ago disappear?

Amazon is invoking exclusive rights to them.*

Ebooks that the public library once had digital copies of are now only available through Amazon. Audible boasts on their covers about Audible-exclusive audiobooks that did not used to be Audible-exclusive. Entire series and collections are disappearing overnight.

Keep your eyes on the privatization of media and your libraries.

Ok time for the yap session. Poll decided on a oc universe I will call "The Golden Glow" for now.

More of a story being told than a full explanation of the world. Lmk if yall want that too.

Ok so we start off with our boy Eli. He's 26 (ish), with short, slightly wavy hair and light brown skin. He is starting at his new university today. He's new to town and very nervous; the main reason he picked this school is bc its far away from where he used to live. Due to some past events, he doesn't trust well.

On his first day, in his elective painting class, this really bubbly girl sits right next to him. She introduces herself as Aralyn ("But all my friends call me Ayla!") and they get to talking. They learn about their common video game interests (a farming sim with animal characters - think Stardew Valley mixed with Animal Crossing). Eli enjoys the conversation, but he's also jealous of her confidence. And there was something else about her too, something that reminded him of getting burned from overexposure to sunlight.

He goes home and, around 6pm, realizes that he's out of groceries. Not a big deal, he just has to buy more. He heads to a nearby store that's a 5 minute walk away. At the door, he sees a black cat with a collar on. He pets it, and the cat lets him. It walks into a nearby alley afterwards. Eli gets what he wants (mostly pre-prepped stuff) at the store and walks out. He almost trips over the cat as it bolts out of the alley. He looks inside to see... something holding up a grown man by the throat. It's dark despite the moonlight, but both of them look to be covered in blood. The thing holding the man is maybe 6'2 (Eli is 5'7) but it's built all wrong. Like an animal standing on two legs. It throws the man to the ground and slowly turns to Eli, eyes a bright yellow around black slitted pupils. Enoli's life flashes before his eyes for the second time. Then, it jumps up and climbs the walls of the nearby buildings. It vanishes over a roof ledge. At that point, Eli screamed aloud.

Several hours later, Eli sat alone in an interrogation room. A tall Black woman in a suit walked in, quietly closing the door behind her. Eli's shoulders relaxed, and he smiled for the first time that night since he'd pet that cat in the alley. His witness protection agent (name undecided) sat across from him and told him the good news: a nearby house gave doorbell footage to the police of Eli going in the store, leaving, and standing in front of the alley. He was no longer a suspect for the murder, and the police were working to find the killer based on his testimony. He sighed in relief and asked if he could go home. She walked him back to his apartment. Eli made some cup noodles and went to bed, grateful.

Meanwhile, a hulking figure landed in the backyard of a house in Eli's neighborhood. Under the cover of night, it began to shrink into a shorter frame, draped in clothes that were too big for its current body. It walked in through the sliding doors to the kitchen. Another taller girl looked up from her computer and told her to stop staying out so late on missions. Aralyn pulled down her hood and smiled sheepishly at her friend. Her housemate Lan proceeded to show her how the news already picked up the story of "The Monster Man-Killer," to which Aralyn laughed and went upstairs to change. Her eyes glittered with gold specks as she walked up to her room. Lan sighed and turned back to her laptop

Enoli woke up in pitch darkness. His room is never fully black; he has a lava lamp by his bed to thank for that. However, he knows he isn't in his room. It's this dream. The same one he's had every night since he left. He starts walking. He's dressed as he was for the day before - black hoodie, black jeans, black converse - but he notices eventually that his outfit is different. He's wearing a teal tank top and a white ruffle skirt. Eli reaches up to his hair. It's in a ponytail that goes down to his mid back. He collapses and begins to shake all over. This isn't him - this was never him. He is Eli, which is his nickname for Enoli because nobody can never pronounce that, not Ella. As soon as he thinks that name, it starts to echo back at him from the darkness in a hundred voices. Ella. Ella. Ella. Louder and louder they call out to a him that never was and never will be again. His adoptive parents, his friends, and his teachers from his old town. Ella. Ella. Ella. He cannot see them jeering that lie of a name at him. They must be in that fog; the dark smoke all around him. Then, his voice comes through. Ella. Ella. Ella. The one that haunts him. His voice starts to call louder than the others, drowning the rest out. The fog slowly begins to turn red as blood. Ella. Ella. Ella. Enoli begins to fall as though the floor was never there. In the blood red swirlds surrounding him, he can see glimpes of that man. The smoke parts slightly as Enoli lands hard on his back. Crouched over him is his ex boyfriend from high school, Jared. Enoli cannot move; he is losing blood on the ground. It matches the smoke in a way that makes him even more afraid. Jared reaches out to grab Enoli's hand in what he knows will be a painfully tight hold when his ex stops, looking past him. Enoli turns to look that way and sees a fire. It is gold. The smoke from it fills the dream landscape, pushing back the red fog. Jared looked... afraid before he disappeared. Enoli sees a face in the flames that surround him before he too begins to burn. It feels more like a too-tight hug than burning; like your being held out of fear of loss. And then, Eli woke up.

Don't trust strange text links (or any strange links in general. Only download stuff from trusted websites)

If someone texts claiming to be someone, don't confirm or deny who u are w/out confirming who they are. Make them take a selfie or do a call

Never trust strange USB sticks you see outside

Anyone can lie; if you're meeting up w/somebody who you've only talked to online, don't go alone and meet in a public place

WARNING!!!!

People, please be careful. There are also people tracking children and people and putting bids on them based on their profile pictures on whatsapp, tracking and kidnapping them. Especially young children, so please be cautious, especially parents who have their children as their profile pictures.
