cannot wait for it to cool down. last night I ended up in a&e for an emergency ecg because my heart rate was just 136 constantly and I was having palpitations and it turned out to just be my POTS flaring because of the heat…. I’d spent the whole day in the dark with ice packs, taking electrolytes, drinking a Lot. like. why can my body literally not deal with it

i didnt know you were allowed to do things for the sake of wanting to do things. i thought you were just supposed to keep that locked inside your ribcage and let it rot you inside out until youre limping around as the desiccated corpse of who you could have been

accent transfer from a language that isn't your native one is so funny, I really do just speak German with a Dutch accent
#it's extra funny because my own english accent isn't rhotic#but dutch is rhotic#and german is also not rhotic but here I am fighting to not be rhotic when I speak it

okay day-tripping Edinburgh on 90mg of codeine was certainly an experience but it was nice to see friends despite the pain and the fact that has to be the least friendly city I’ve ever been to
#literally having lived there for a year I cannot think of a single positive interaction I had with a stranger#such a uniquely hostile place in my opinion. I have no idea what people are talking about when they say it’s friendly 😭

god this town is so nice. I knew when we moved here it was nice but living here and seeing the day to day is so different. there’s a completely free bookshop always full of people, regular markets on in the square for local bakers, cooks and artists, real well-used well-loved community spaces, I see people bump into familiar faces every day, almost every business here is independent… idyllic, I can’t believe it
#would love so badly to settle here#but a 1 bed flat costs 250000#for that price in my hometown you could have a 3 bedroom house with a front and back garden#a 2 up 2 down here is like 450000 lmao😭🥲

a weekend in Belgium where I spoke French to everyone I spoke to in Brussels and Dutch in Bruges did a lot for my confidence in terms of feeling a lot more self-assured, which is something I've struggled a lot with lately (constantly second guessing myself and seeking reassurance from others). I am capable and I can do things that feel scary.
#I've been insecure about my French for a long time#because it's a language that's been part of my life for 22 years but until this weekend I have never spoken it to a native speaker#(except my French teachers but u know)#I've spoken it with other L2 speakers when it was easier than Dutch for me or English for them but that's it#so to navigate everything in French there and not have anyone switch to English with me was huge#Dutch was nice to use again. I know very little about Flemish but I know enough to know that 3 people did not switch and kept on in Flemish#when we were talking because it was *hard* to understand and I had to do a fair bit of guess work from context#but we got there and all was well. I cannot believe no one switched to English when that happened so much in the netherlands
