BIOGRAPHY:

Joel was always easy to get along with. Easy-going and friendly, the only people who ever gave him a hard time were his older sister and the school bullies. His teachers loved him despite the fact that he had a short attention span, struggling to sit through classes when he would rather be talking or playing. He had a pretty standard childhood, avoiding much of the turmoil that gods generally experience throughout the added stress of acquiring superpowers during puberty. His abilities were more subtle, not leading him or anyone else to think that he was exceptional in any way. He could teach the family dog to waltz and he had was invited to every party in high school but none of that raised red flags with anyone. His grades were below average and he barely managed to graduate, genuinely unsure where to go after high school. He had no interest in college and got a job at a local diner, working for minimum wage and living at home for the moment.

He found an easy following on YouTube thanks to being a cute guy with a family dog that would perform impressive tricks and bark certain words to an amusing degree. Joel started remixing music and posting it to his channel, growing his online presence. Despite this degree of “success” he was still living at home and  working second shift, falling into a dejected state of mind. He was in love with a girl but he forgot how to show it, so out of love with himself that he was isolating and unable to show her that he did care about her despite the heavy blanket of emptiness that had settled over him. 

When Arin Drake approached Joel with a proposal of moving to NYC and working at a nightclub he was quick to accept, asking zero questions before packing his bags and leaving for the city. He was desperate for a change, especially after the anti-climactic break-up with his girlfriend. Despite having some regrets about the way that he ended things with his girlfriend he has never once regretted joining the Ægir family. He is now a highly sought out DJ, though the majority of his professional time is still spent within Arin’s nightclub. 

EXTRAS:

Joel has a black (with white patches) pitbull mix that lives with him. The two are nearly inseparable and Dogglo5 can often be seen following Joel around the club before or after official operating hours.

Joel hasn’t kept in contact with anyone from his past other than his immediate family. He visits his parents at Christmas, dreading the holiday every year because he knows that his older sister and her family will also be there.

CONNECTIONS:

Joel used to date Valentina before he moved to the city. The two were head over heels in love with each other despite the fact that neither of them had much to their names. It wasn’t until Joel began to sink into a depression that their relationship suffered, the magic between them disappearing along with his own. He lost touch with himself as well as everyone around him during this time, managing to isolate himself despite being in the same place and surrounded by the same people. Their relationship ended quietly but sadly, causing Joel to be more anxious than ever to jump at the chance to escape his hometown.

NAME: Valentina De La Fuente

BIOGRAPHY:

Matias De La Fuente had never been the kind of man to settle. He was often known as a drifter to many, and a disappointment by some. He was indecisive, always jumping onto the back of excitement, jumping off the moment he was bored. His family, his teachers… everyone knew that a man like that would never succeed. Many believed he was a loss cause, despite his young age, but it was Valeria Hernandez who had set him straight. The two were high school sweet hearts, the complete embodiment of opposites attract. Valeria was a model student— never late, regularly exceeding expectations. In truth, it surprised many that she had caught the eye of their hometown’s ‘resident bad boy’, especially for a book worm.  When they decided to marry, no one objected. It was an agreement no one defied, knowing they’d be good for each other. However, no one knew of Matia’s long term affair, just a year or two into their marriage. It continued even after Valentina was born, still kept underwraps until a discovery was made. The mistress confessed her identity, and Matias grew disgusted. She was a freak, abnormal, unhuman. He lashed out in a fit of rage and after she threatened to reveal the truth of their affair, it ended in her death. Matias was sentenced to forty years in jail, Valentina loosing her father at the age of six. Valeria did the best she could raising Valentina on her own, but it always takes a village. The De La Fuente and Hernandez family helped raised her, primarily under the watch of Matia’s brother, her uncle, Mateo. Valeria and Mateo soon fell in love, wanting to marry and officially become a family. However, it was forbidden by their families, and so they kept their relationship quiet, all the while, raising Valentina.  Valentina’s uncle, Mateo had raised her around guns and knives. He taught her how to defend herself, and how to fight if necessary. Raised in Mexico City, Valentina learned both Spanish and English growing up. However, she had completely abandoned her roots since moving to NYC, rarely speaking her native tongue. Valentina earns her peace as a stripper in order to make ends meet. She lives in a rundown apartment and stays away from all social media— anything that could reveal her identity as an immigrant. 

EXTRAS:

Although he was not her father, Valentina loved him like he was. He raised her to be a fighter, to be independent, to be strong, and brave. Valeria showed her wisdom and grace, and while Valetina began showing promise, the apple does not fall far from the tree. During her early teens, rebellion ran high, turning into an exact replica of her biological father. She no longer appreciated the ‘village’ that raised her, taking for granted of every little thing. They tried putting restraints— grounding, isolation, lectures upon lectures. To no avail, her family feared she might been worse than Matias. When she was sixteen, Valentina ran away from home, hitchhiking towards the border and to New York City, the big apple. 

CONNECTIONS:

Valentina and Joel Monroe shared a very sweet and healthy four years together, just one year after her arrival to the east coast. However, when Joel had begun to discover that he wasn’t human, but a God, everything had changed. Unbeknowest to Valentina, he began to distance himself during his identity crisis, eventually causing the two to part on sad, but quiet note.

Ares can’t be described as anything less than Valentina’s savior. He helped her get a job at the Ægir Nightclub, an apartment, whilst providing protection of her identity. In addition to their tight friendship, they made a deal to hook up every now and again as a means to catharsis. 

WANTED, THE DEITY : Valentina’s father had a long time affair with a deity, only finding out so towards the end of their time together. The ability to sense the general whereabouts of other deities. The closer he is acquainted with them the more he is able to see about them.

BIOGRAPHY:

Compared to most of his peers Jason had a remarkably average childhood. He grew up in New England with his parents and younger brother, wildly unaware that anything was at all different about him, even managing to make it through puberty without realizing that he was more than just a mortal. It wasn’t until college that he came to any realization of his powers and potential. He was dating a young woman who practiced the occult, finding himself spectating a world that he knew nothing about. His mother would have been horrified to know that her son was dating an aspiring Wiccan priestess but Jason was intrigued by all of it (and super into his witchy-hot college girlfriend). The members of her group sensed Jason’s powers before he did himself and with their help he was able to identify and explore them. Their interest and attention only served to feed his powers and being more of a scientist than a mystic it didn’t take Jason long to realize that there was a connection between the amount of attention he was getting and the intensity of his abilities. He was anxious to explore this more, researching online but finding very little that sounded legitimate. His research did lead him to a man named Arin Drake though, the two striking up a correspondence via the internet. Jason was happy to meet someone like himself, desperate to know everything that he could.

After graduating college he moved to NYC, joining Arin as he was in the process of starting Ægir. Jason was instrumental in this process, helping wherever he was needed. He managed the entire process of setting up stringent security for both their online network and the physical premises of the club, anxious to protect Arin’s secrets as much as the man himself was. Jason has never had any doubt that Arin has all of their best interests at heart, loyal to him even beyond being a good friend and colleague.

Jason met his future wife Euphemia when she came to join the Ægir family. He fell quickly for her, convinced that she was his soulmate. They got married, their wedding taking place inside the nightclub itself. Jason loves being a husband more than he could have ever imagined that he would. He loves that they get to work together and is anxious to start a family with her.

EXTRAS:

Jason is a tech genius. His degree is in computer science and he handles everything of that nature for Arin and the club. He’s the go-to guy for anyone having technical difficulties.

Jason loves to push the boundaries of his abilities, ever anxious to know how far he can go with what energies available to him.

If Jason spends too much time down or inside the weather inevitably suffers, usually resulting in grey skies throughout the city.

CONNECTIONS:

Jason is a long-time friend and loyal colleague of Arin Drake. The two built the Ægir nightclub together and Jason totally credits Arin for being the one that introduced him to the love of his life.

Euphemia Aker is the one that Jason is convinced he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Every step in their relationship has made him more and more confident in this belief. He doesn’t care that she’s not a goddess, quick to take on anyone that mentions it in a negative light.

Jason has known Rose Montgomery since she came to work at Ægir. He’s never really had much love for her but his regard for her has only dropped lower since observing the way that she consistently teases and flirts with Ares. He thinks that it’s dangerous and reckless in regards to everyone involved, including even those outside of the pair themselves.

Ares and Jason do not get along at all. Jason believes that Ares is not trustworthy or reliable, making no secret of his opinions to anyone. The resentment being mutual, Ares often goes out of his way to annoy or make Jason’s life more difficult than necessary. Jason firmly believes that Ares is a ticking time bomb, wishing that Arin would do something about him before it’s too late.

BIOGRAPHY:

Cyrus did not have the best home life, growing up. Neglected by his alcoholic mother and a father who preferred to spend his nights with a mistress rather than at home, he was a scrawny, withdrawn child. He didn’t make friends easily, and those he did manage to make often left him out of activities because of his “clinginess.” Used to rejection, Cyrus usually spent time alone. He became very good at making up stories in his head to entertain himself, and his imagination grew strong. He had vivid dreams that almost seemed real, and when he was ten years old the dreams grew even more realistic.

It wasn’t until he was twelve that he realized the dreams weren’t his own. He began to have violent, erratic ones that featured his mother murdering his father, or provocative, sensual ones that involved women he’d never seen before. It was when he stumbled upon his father’s porn collection that he realized who the women were. At first, he didn’t know what it meant, entering other people’s dreams. He began to experiment, reaching out with his mind at night to see what else he could experience. He searched out nice, calming dreams, or nonsensical ones that were still harmless. He’d spend hours there, basking in warmth and security that he’d never felt before.

When he was eighteen, his mother died of alcohol poisoning, and his father kicked him out of the house to turn it into a brothel. Cyrus has lived the streets ever since, learning how to fend for himself by putting strangers to sleep and then picking their pockets. Loneliness has become second nature to him, but he feels close to others when he enters their dreams. He learns about people, their wants and desires, their fears and their heartache. He has no idea who he truly is or the immense power he has trapped inside. He’s just trying to get by.

Despite the cruelty he’s faced, Cyrus has remained a kind-hearted individual. He wants to help those that suffer in their sleep, and has slowly gained the ability to shift small things in dreams to make them more appealing. (For example, changing a dinosaur chasing a child into a basset hound eager to play, or a river of lava into a calm, trickling stream. Anything to give the dreamer peace of mind.)

EXTRAS:

Cyrus doesn’t know much about technology, considering the only phone he has is an old Nokia he pays for monthly. He knows nothing about the existence of Ægir.

BIOGRAPHY:

Ever since she was little, Rose knew she was special. Her parents were overjoyed to have such a beautiful and charming child. She participated in beauty contests and modeled in magazines and performed in commercials ever since she could walk and talk. She loved the attention. She reveled in it. When she reached puberty, she realized she had a strange way of manipulating people and used that to her advantage. She never had to lift a finger in high school, only studied whatever sparked her interest. As a result, she’s not very book-smart.

When Arin’s team approached her and told her who she was, Rose wasn’t surprised. She took him up on his offer to join his nightclub staff and has been working as a bartender for the past five years. Despite her being selfish, vain, and petty, people gravitate towards her because of her beauty, confidence, and the fact that she’s a sympathetic ear, especially when it comes to romance. Rose loves people and loves to “help” people find their true love (even if that true love changes from month to month). One would think that someone who loves love so much would be in love herself, but she has yet to find a man “worthy” of her who actually, truly cares for her in spite of her abilities.

Her powers have grown stronger since she started working at Aegir, but she still has a lot of untapped potential.

EXTRAS:

Rose is a social media guru and has several accounts across Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, and YouTube. She has a YouTube channel for makeup tips that has over a million subscribers, and she receives multiple marriage proposals a day on her photos on Instagram.

CONNECTIONS:

Rose is attracted to Ares, and finds great amusement in playing with his lust for her. She finds his aggression thrilling, but she knows he’s not her true love. So she flirts with him, enjoys riling him up, but at the end of the day she usually dismisses him, still searching for someone who will actually love her. (But heaven forbid someone else catch his eye.)

SUPERNATURAL ABILITIES:

Giving into focused aggression and engaging in any kind of physical altercation makes him stronger, faster, and able to soak more damage than he should.

He is able to suppress reservations of fear, at least temporarily. This ability allows him to remain cool under threat but also causes him to react with overconfidence, often putting himself and others in more danger than necessary.

He is able to incite primal rage in others. He can channel and gain physical strength from heightened negative emotions- from not only his own anger but from the aggression of others as well. He can manipulate instinctive rage in others that suppresses their ability to make conscious or logical decisions. He is also able to channel in a way that the power flows both ways- allowing him to not only feed off of the aggression of others but also infusing those around him with additional courage and strength.

“Bitterness is like a cancer. It eats upon the host. But anger is like fire. It burns it all clean.”

BIOGRAPHY:

Ares’ mother was a deeply religious woman and nothing could have prepared her for the child that she had given birth to. A colicky baby and a hellion of a toddler, the child quickly wore down both of his parents. His mother was convinced that Ares was a bad seed and his father left them both, unable to deal with the constant power struggle between his wife and their firstborn. Violence and conflict were all that Ares knew from a very young age. He was headstrong and impossibly obstinate, his strict mother growing frustrated and physically abusive under the excuse of ‘discipline’. He suffered from extreme anxiety as a child, the constant uncertainty of his living situation ruining any chance he had at developing any peace of mind. 

Ares joined the military after graduation, feeling that he had no other options available to him. He was quick to prove himself in the ranks, his needless aggression driving him towards a level of excellence that surpassed his peers. His determination and fearlessness under pressure was almost off-putting for others to witness. It seemed as if the more pressure you put him under the more that he thrived. He was not a soldier that you wanted to keep sitting in base at home so they kept him deployed as often as possible, completing two tours in the Middle East before he became unmanageable. His officers were aware that he was a loose cannon but he could be counted on to get the dirty jobs done without hesitation. He was written up and covered for on multiple occasions but his conduct eventually raised too many red flags with the higher-ups. He was discharged from the military and any relief he had found from his rage was now amplified by the shame of being sent away from the home that he had found in the military. They shipped him back and he got a job on a construction site, not having much in the way of references or education to recommend him on a resume. It was here that he was found by Arin’s team. They brought him in as part of the family and despite his many off-putting personality traits he’s done well within the sheltering atmosphere that Arin has worked to create. Ares is more powerful and more controlled than ever before, making him both a strong asset at the same time that he is essentially viewed as being a live wire around the place. 

EXTRAS:

Ares learned a long time ago that staying active helps him to keep his anger in check. Physical exhaustion provides relief from the tight knot of aggression that is usually wound inside of him. Working a physically demanding job is the best thing for him. 

He often feels that he is in a constant struggle to hold on to his humanity. He recognizes the anger and cruelty inside of himself but feels helpless to change. It’s an isolating feeling that fills him with dread. He feels bad for the things that he’s done but it’s easier to give into the rage rather than deal with the guilt. The more isolated he becomes the less motivated he is to deal with his feelings in any productive way.

He avoids being around or interacting with children and animals. Having been a victim of childhood abuse he’s anxious to prevent ever becoming an abuser himself. He doesn’t trust himself to always be able to manage his anger and is afraid of hurting an innocent.

CONNECTIONS:

Ares has a massive crush on Rose Montgomery, one of the bartenders in the club as well as being a fellow deity. He was madly in lust with her the moment that he first met her, convinced that she belonged with him. Despite Rose’s lack of positive interest and Arin’s direct warnings in regards to the woman Ares has yet to give it up. 

Jason Aker and Ares got off on the wrong foot and they’ve failed to ever recover from it or improve the situation. Ares dislikes Jason and Jason dislikes Ares, though their ways of expressing it differ vastly. Ares goes out of his way to troll Jason, knowing that Arin probably hears a full report about it later.

NAME: Arin Drake MORTAL AGE: 31 OCCUPATION: Owner of Ægir nightclub FACE CLAIM: Max Riemelt GOD: Ægir (Norse god of the sea)

SUPERNATURAL ABILITIES:

Master of the water element. Any matter containing moisture is subject to his command, including human bodies, potentially.

Can manipulate and control ice.

Can generate and manipulate electricity.  His control over the seas and its storms accounts for Arin’s electricity based abilities.

BIOGRAPHY:

Arin was always an inquisitive sort. He came from humble beginnings, a kid bounced around the foster system with little concept of home. He always questioned everything, this coming strongly into play as his abilities began manifesting in his early teens. It was subtle at first but he didn’t ignore it, instead focusing on discovering what it was that he could do with it. His discovery was slow and painstaking but in time he came to realize that the intensity of his power was directly linked to the response of others around himself. He began cultivating this pool of contacts, adeptly learning how to snowball his efforts into something that continued to grow exponentially over the years.

Opening the club was a huge milestone for him, the following that he had built allowing him to bask in the overwhelming bank of human adoration and power that he had cultivated for himself. Every night is a deluge of energy to feed upon. Sympathetic to the plight of others who are like himself, he seeks to share this wealth and is constantly invested in seeking out and aiding those who are not fully realized yet. He has mentored several other gods and goddesses, introducing them into his inner circle and allowing them to bask in the wealth of human adoration alongside him.

Arin has a huge following online, including many high-profile celebrities that attract a multitude of others to follow him. Despite not growing up around a lot of sophisticated technology he has quickly adapted to this new world of social media, utilizing it to feed his power.
