the scariest thing about the generative AI thing is how quickly people have accepted it as an indefinite, irrevocable part of their reality. people have genuinely convinced themselves that ChatGPT is the only solution to most tasks - tasks they did with their own brain without any large effort two years ago. like you know damn well all of us used to write emails ourselves why are we pretending like this is an impossible task to do with your own two hands. what's with the fucking. AI revisionism. i feel like i am going insane.

wheelchair users deserve a minimum of three wheelchairs to meet different needs. like, bare minimum of indoor chair, outdoor chair, and off road chair. chairs that meet different needs for transport, activity, positioning needs, energy levels, etc.
there is not "one chair" that can meet every need. wheelchair users deserve to have multiple chairs that meet specific needs, no matter how complex their seating/positioning needs. we deserve to at least have a backup if our chair breaks that is just as suited to our needs.

"what did students do before chatgpt?" well one time i forgot i had a history essay due at my 10am class the morning of so over the course of my 30 minute bus ride to school i awkwardly used by backpack as a desk, sped wrote the essay, and got an A on it.
six months later i re-read the essay prior to the final exam, went 'ohhhh yeah i remember this', got a question on that topic, and aced it.
point being that actually doing the work is how you learn the material and internalize it. ChatGPT can give you a short cut but it won't build you the the muscles.

sorry im not done gatsbyposting. the nyc celebrations for its 100th anniversary are so uniquely deranged. like here you have a book that absolutely scathes new york parties & dress-up & entertainment & alcohol & careless wealthy east coast elites. and the way the city is celebrating the 100th anniversary of one of the most beautifully written & personally devastating literary tragedies this country has ever produced is by. offering 10% off gatsby-themed cocktails at luxury bars. hosting pay-to-attend 1920s themed costume balls in the wealthiest areas of midtown. setting up penthouse hotel suites to ostensibly resemble locations from the book. a few hours ago at an exclusive private event they had the cast of the glamorous broadway musical, all in designer clothes, light up the empire state building green to advertise their show where tickets cost up to $670. one of them said the green light ‘represents the beauty of the american dream.’ i think you could power all manhattan with energy generated from the rotational torque of f scott fitzgerald spinning wildly in his grave

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Trump administration can be allowed to deport 8 men that have been held in a United States military base in Djibouti Africa to be deported to a war torn South Sudan even though only 1 of them officially have citizenship there.
Before coming to the United States, they hailed from Vietnam, South Korea, Mexico, Laos, Cuba and Myanmar. Just one is from South Sudan.
These men have been illegally removed from the United States without due process and are now going to be dumped in a war torn country South Sudan where they will most likely die.

Important aspect of the conversation when it comes to trans men, and trans people in general, is understanding the distinction between personal gender identity and white patriarchal gender ideals.
Personal gender identity is diverse, and can vary from person to person, and can be expressed in a variety of ways.
White patriarchal gender ideals are strict, and are defined by proximity to power.
When a transmasc person says “hey I don’t have male privilege because I’m trans” they don’t mean they aren’t a man, they mean they aren’t a man according to white patriarchal gender ideals. They are acknowledging the lack of proximity to power that results from their transness, and that directly interferes with their ability to live up to the expectations of manhood. This is, of course, exacerbated if they are a person of color.
It is not “misgendering” to say that a transmasc person does not align with the white patriarchal gender ideal of manhood, because many men dont-cis and trans alike. Trans men are men in SPITE of their lack of proximity to power, because as queer people we cannot allow our personhood to be defined by white patriarchal gender ideals.
If you are denying the struggles that trans men and transmascs face simply because they are men YOU ARE ENFORCING THESE IDEALS, because you are affirming the fact that manhood is exclusively defined by proximity to power. I hope I do not have to explain why this is bad.
And for the record, womanhood is also defined by proximity to power, not by lack of it. This is why white women are seen as more womanly than women of color, because while they still are ideally subservient to men, there still is a power dynamic that they hold over other women. (The womanhood thing is a bit more complicated for me to explain well).
