Jeff gently takes Tau’s hand. “It’s not your fault. Nothing you or Howler does is your fault. Your parents are not good parents if they treat you as a monster or anything less than their son.”

“Don’t let yourself or anyone else tell you otherwise.”

Jeff tried his hardest to keep his calm, how could someone put their hands on their child? “You won’t have to go back there anymore, you’re safe here.”

“A parent’s job is to love and protect their child, no matter what. If they’re hurting you, you shouldn’t go back.”

“Who’s they? Your parents?” Jeff set aside his food to focus on Tau more.

“Do they hurt you?”

“Why the bandages?” He refused to back down, feeling his title of Alpha being challenged

“Don’t lie to me, Tauban. I know for a fact that’s not your real last name. You hesitated earlier when you told me.”

“Well, considering I know pretty much nothing about you and you’re staying in my home, I’d like to know more about you.”

“Huh, so Seth and Becky are gonna be parents, huh? Well, I’m sure they’ll do great.”

“Eh, it’s just your first day here. Once you get around the village, you’ll see that this place is a lot more comfortable than the normal world.”

He brings over a roast beef sandwich for Tau and sits down on the couch to eat his own. “So, tell me a bit about yourself.”

“Well this place is the home of lots of supernatural beings. You’ll fit right in.” Jeff assured, frying up some sliced pork and vegetables.

“You’re pretty much normal here. There’s all sorts of shadow monsters out in the forest that attack non-residents.” With a shrug, Jeff went to start cooking lunch.

The girl looked at her father then cautiously approached this stranger, hand out for a handshake. “H-Hello... I’m Athena...”

“Trust me, there’s been a lot worse that has come through that door.” Jeff reassured.  

The girl hopped off the couch, shifting into a little wolf pup for a moment as she ran over to her father then shifted back to hide behind him. “Oh don’t be shy, Athena.”

“Don’t worry about it, I can understand your skepticism.” Jeff followed him inside and set the food into the kitchen. On the couch in the living room, a young girl with dark hair and blue eyes was watching TV. She seemed about 8 or 9 and curiously looked at this new person.

After a quick stop for some groceries, Jeff pulled a key from his pocket and puts it in a random door, twisting it to seemingly unlock. When he opened the door, it lead to a completely different place. It was a rather nice two story house in a calm wooden area.

“Welcome to Shinigami Village, the door should be open.”

“Well, if you can call me later, you can just follow me.” Jeff motioned towards some of the small shops, still needing to get food.

“Look, I’m not here to hurt you or upset you. I’m just offering you a safe haven. It’s obvious by your bandages that you aren’t exactly in a very healthy place.”

Jeff once again offers the card. “Just take it and contact me later. My daughter is waiting on me.”

“I never said you did wrong. But considering the fact that your hand is changing right now doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.”

There it was. In those few seconds, Jeff figured out what was in front of him. It would seem as though this stranger had a similar problem that he himself had been dealing with. 

“I’m someone who can help you control what is inside you.”
