ok I finished the prologue of the hamilton fic. it came to about 450 words, but I expected this chapter and the epilogue to be closer to 500 than 1000 words anyway.

I stand here, an old man nearing his own death, finding the time and the heart to talk about the incident, the man, that changed the trajectory of my life. I’ll take a leaf from his book, as they say, and write about the events, from his birth as a man right up to his death, of this degenerate, disgraced soul, who through deceiving his allies, ended up one of the pillars of our very country. I know not much of his heritage. He was once a bastard daughter from the Caribbean Islands. She and her family were poor, and her father, who was Scottish, left her mother sometime when she was young, and left the family debt-ridden. Not even a few years later, both she and her mother fell deathly ill. As I said, they were poverty-stricken, and so they had not the amenities to heal quickly. This man, a 12-year-old girl at the time, was full of youthful vigor, and managed to fight past it. Her mother, on the other hand, was not as lucky, and sickness walked her to Death’s doors. She lived with a cousin temporarily, before that cousin was, too, felled by sickness, though a sickness of the mind. I could not tell you at what point “she” became “him”, but I heard he clerked for a trading port, even started running it when the owner was out at sea, before a hurricane hit his home. His eloquent and, frankly, poetic cry in response was what gave him the funds to get to New York, and eventually try for a scholarship at Columbia Collage (King’s Collage at the time). He fought with allies and he fought with foes. He loved with an unparalleled fire and he lost with naught but a silent tear. My trust in him shattered the day he stole my presidential seat, and yet here and now I trust only myself to put pen to paper and cement this man’s history, to tell his descendants the legacy he will never get to see. Here is a tribute to my friend, my first adversary. Perhaps to you, I am indeed an enemy. It comes down to me, to simply transcribe the score of your symphony into one full melody, lest it inevitably be reduced to cacophony by the first idiocy of our progeny. I deliberately write like you, so eloquently. Despite my attempt at a remedy, you may hold enmity. I shot at you so recklessly, yet I feel with certainty it’d have happened eventually, we drove each other to insanity. Here is a parody I wrote with sincerity to America’s epitome. For context, I've been translating / technically rewriting as well a story I've written a few years ago (pre-covid). I was in a very different mindset I'm now in. I've noticed I naturally make my characters go through less troubles than the first version. It's not the case every time, but when I change details, it's mostly this way. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing as long as I like writing it, but I was wondering if that kind of evolution was somewhat common.
