His eyes narrowed just a little bit as he towered over her. Despite her words, he could hear her heartbeat; she might lie about it, but he knew fear when he heard it. Even though he was very thirsty... he decided to be gentle with her.

"You suppose", he tutted as he crouched in front of her. "And I suppose you're putting on a brave face for me."

He paused, and even though he was still smiling, there was coldness in his eyes. He hated he had to do this. But he couldn't help himself. Just as humans needed food to keep them going, he needed blood to keep his head clear. They both knew it. Everyone knew it.

Nevertheless, he didn't hate himself any less for it. He clicked with his tongue as he stroked a lock of hair behind her ear. I can't do it.

"On second thought", he announced nonchalantly, "I think I'll find myself something else to sink my teeth into."

CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT

Her voice stopped him in his tracks immediately. He half turned to look at her from the corner of his eye - did she really mean that? Was she serious? Did he look this desperate? Weak? Starved?

A split second of hesitation.

Astarion turned around with a broad smile on his face.

"Darling, I thought you'd never ask", he positively purred as he sauntered right back to her. "Let's get comfortable then, shall we?"

|| I've been playing a bit of Sims 4 lately, and one sim of mine is dating Caleb Vatore. Today he calls my sim out of the blue that he ADOPTED A TODDLER. HE'S A JOBLESS VAMPIRE AND HE JUST. ADOPTED. A. TODDLER.

Astarion was patiently waiting for Aurelius to say something. Anything. He was aware that all of this must've been heavy on him, knowing of the impending doom hanging above his head. The fear of the unknown.

But the pale elf was patient. He had all the time in the world, after all.

For one, he liked Aurelius. He was useful and reliable - a rarity these days. The boy did not want to be in his presence for his wealth, he knew that; he would've left in the beginning when Astarion had little to his name. But no. Despite the small payments in early days, Aurelius stayed; and they formed a bond. Thinking about that, Astarion put his hands behind himself with a sigh as he looked away.

"What if you married a man you knew?"

That was an interesting statement; Astarion was sure Aurelius did not know everything about him - especially not his much darker side -, but the pale elf was absolutely sure that this sounded a bit better than knowing nothing. After the first few months, he was generous with the boy; treating him as his consort wouldn't cause him any problems. There was at least some trust.

He had thought to let his friend (master?) know beforehand in case the day came and the young man wouldn't be there. And maybe not wanting to get the pale elf's wrath if he just left out of the blue. Sure Aurelius probably could defend himself but he also didn't want to fight someone he considered a friend.

He didn't want to be married off to someone he knew, someone Aurelius was sure would just use him for his powers. A weapon and maybe because of his name alone, not marrying him for him.

His master friend had become quite the powerful person in the darkness, it was quite a fright in good ways. He now guessed he was being married off in hopes the one that married him would get into Astarion's good graces... a possible smart tactic on paper, in reality though probably not a good idea. All this made his heart race with anxiety, with fear he never had before even as his face remained calm.

What cost would it be? Would it be to high? He didn't know or even think Astarion would actually be willing to help so he was taken aback and had to think. The two had similarities in murdering their tormentor. Astarion with his creator, Aurelius with Mary Lou.

Realizing he had probably been standing there and staring at the floor for a good three minutes, did he finally look up. "I want it stopped." Finally he answered, "I don't want to be married off to some random person I've never met." He was sure they meant well, but he refused to have his path decided for him.

Arranged Marriage

Frightening. That thought must've been frightening. Although, Astarion had found a lot of power in the darkness after he'd returned to the city and ascended - murdering his creator and tormentor, and seven thousand spawns in the process -, he had taken a liking to the boy who ran a few errands for him during the day.

Astarion decided he wanted to help him. But his help had a cost.

"I could stop it", the vampire whispered, "if you want me to."
