Dabbling in some symbolism. Spoilers under the cut.

The crown of the King in the North has all of its spears broken, except for the front two which now form two towers, the sigil of House Frey.

Her pendent thingy is a skewered fish (the trout is the sigil of House Tully), placed where her throat was slit.

I think the reference to Our Lady of Sorrows is pretty apparent ? Also, the red on her blue dress make the Tully house colors together.

Robert is gay but in a Greek way so it doesn’t really matter or count. Renly is gay in a having sex with men way which is sooooooo fun. Look at my prince dawg we’re ending the line of succession. Stannis is gay in a metaphorical way which. As we all know. Is the best thing a character can be

you know something i find very interesting about davos-stannis-melisandre is the ambiguity of stannis desires as seen through davos' eyes (!)

common stannis fanon is that stannis is gay and repressed and therefore 'uncomfortable around' a) women b) fun. in posts about davos/stannis melisandre often doesn't feature.

she certainly is a lot on davos' mind, though! let's take this:

as seen through davos' eyes, stannis here is a man who reacts positively to one woman who is young and beautiful, while he hates his wife, who is annoying and ugly.

which opens different possibilities: a) davos is jealous & (mis)reads the situation through a kind of heteronormative lens that pains him b) melisandre is a witch who put a hex on stannis, actually stannis would truly never it's just magic* c) stannis sexuality and attachment holds room for more than 'repressed gay' aka he does have a sexual-romantic interest in melisandre, which might btw includes the option that melisandre is not actually "a woman"

to keep on about davos, there's this remarkable scene:

i mean, who is repressed, here? stannis is having the 'evil witch' in his tent, to the dismay of all. a classic: a king with the power to do as he wants, sexually speaking, even if it's "improper", and so he does. (kind of like his hated brothers, etc). davos is seething and making a clear offer.

that seems a "contradiction" of course, since stannis is a rigid upholder of sexual propriety: he condemns gilly for being a csa survivor and calls her a "whore" (& abomination); he corrects & puts asha into place when asha offers to be his man (you, woman, are not a man :/) aka he defends assigned genders & shows himself inflexible/punitive towards those that transgress; he cracks down against sex workers. but then that's stannis' entire character: a reputation of a dutifully grim terminally dutiful terrifyingly honest man not so true in practice, not applying his own rules to himself, making exceptions, his rules shifting & shifting, etc.

*the beauty of implied option b here ("stannis would never he's been bewitched") is that this is the opinion of the men who love him who narrate his story: maester cressen and davos. that's not actually stannis, they say, stannis would never, it's that witch! stannis is that (other) kind of man. clearly then a lot of readers end up agreeing: there's the idea of stannis (real) and what stannis actually does (bewitched, the woman's fault). but is that true?

now we also know that stannis did not have mel in his bed only for "the duty of shadow babies" since they sleep together long after he was too depleted to make another:

we also know that melisandre appreciates davos' devotion to the king.

i don't really have A Point (like a clear conclusion like "clearly davos is.... while stannis.... etc"). just. melisandre is central to stannis-davos desire conversations, imo.

Introducing: Terror Camp Polar Parties!

Terror Camp’s main event will always be online and free to attend for anyone. But the joy of real-life community is something powerful, irreplaceable, and more important than ever.

So with your help, we want to celebrate Terror Camp all over the world in person this December, as well as online!

What are Polar Parties?

Along with official events in New York and London (to be announced), our dream is to have a full calendar of regional Terror Camp meetups happening during the conference weekend (December 5-7, 2025).

But we can’t do it alone. We need YOU, Terror Campers around the world, to get involved in organizing and hosting each event!

What kind of event?

Here are some ideas:

Picnic or park meetup (if your part of the world will have good weather in December!)

Pub or bar meetup

Group dinner

House party

Museum meetup

Fancy gala or soiree

Or a combination of any of the above!

Also, your event could definitely include an in-person watchalong of Terror Camp livestream programming (but that’s not a requirement).

Where do I sign up?

Please fill out this form if:

you want to volunteer to organize a Terror Camp Polar Party for your city or region on December 5, 6, or 7, or:

you would attend an event in your city or region but are unable to take on the responsibility of hosting.

Once you’ve registered your interest in hosting a Polar Party, along with your location, we’ll list your event (even if date and place is TBD) and contact info on our site, so that other Campers in your region can get involved.

We encourage you to find co-hosts and partner up. We’d also really love it if you teamed up with local museums or institutions!
