Writober day 1:Ring

Maybe it was just my mind grinding to a halt from struggling to process everything that’s happened. Or maybe my heart, being unable to take much more after the turbulence of emotions the past few months, can barely even focus on its beat. Or perhaps my body, after everything it’s been through, couldn’t find an instinct, a reaction, for this moment, to the point where it forgets to breathe.

I was frozen, mouth agape. My eyes fixed on the shining piece of silver in Jaiden’s hand.

A ring.

“This is my promise to you” I think he said.

I don’t know how much time passed.

This is what he must’ve felt during our awkward first kiss.

I wanted to speak but my voice failed me.

I met his hickory eyes again, finding only love, sincerity, and hope in them. A mere gaze communicating more than words ever could.

I extended my hand out to his and Jaiden carefully placed the promise ring onto my finger. He then took my hand and brought it up to his face to press his soft yet cool lips to my knuckles. He held my gaze through half-lidded eyes.

Somehow, my face flushed even more. But I didn’t care much. We were okay.

Everything was okay.

Dorian is sitting out there. For those along the southeast US, reminders: -Your bathtub can be a water reserve -SAND. BAGS. -Brace your garage doors. -Putting tape on windows can cause blow outs due to pressure differences -Check your local water table. See if flooding is likely. -Evac plans -Dry goods that get wet are useless. Get some garbage bags to protect them in case you have to evac the house. -Note a good shelter for your area The storm path puts it anywhere between the Florida Keys and the Carolinas. Be prepared, stay calm, and have a plan. The worst case scenario often never happens if you’re prepared.  -WW

Anybody else remember how for a few years after 9/11 it was totally reasonable to be scared of a low-flying plane or flying/airports in general. It was just understood the 9/11 was an event that affected the American psyche and even though most planes landed totally safely it was understandable to be scared.

But when young people who are increasingly forced to consider the thought of being shot in school or at concerts say they feel uncomfortable with people openly carrying guns in public, suddenly they’re too sensitive and infringing on the rights of others.
