The Mystical Lake Awing (a Crater Lake and shrine)
Tumblr media
Location
Lake Awing is located within the Bafut-Ngemba forest reserves, 15 kilometers from mile 11 Santa. It occupy’s a surface area of about 4km square. It is one of the many crater Lakes found along the Cameroon volcanic line and is just about 300m besides the imposing Mount Lefo, with an attitude of about 3000m above sea level.
Origin and journey
Lake Awing is often referred to as the lake that travels. The origin of the Lake can be traced during the early settlement of the fore fathers of the Awing Kingdom. During their stay in Alameti, they discover a large pond without an outlet or inlet, which was called Lake Bambulewing.  It is believed that the Lake migrated from Bambili, a neighboring village, because it was being shabbily treated. Marveled by their discovery, the people came up with injunctions restraining any person from dumping refuge into the Lake. The water later vamoosed because some women threw beds (menses) into it.
It later on resurfaced on its present site, while the Awing people had been making efforts to situate it. History holds that, it was one memorable morning, when a man called Ta Mba’nka on returning from his raffia bush with a calabash of wine on his shoulder, met a group of people. The leader begged a cup of wine from him. He generously offered without any reserve. After quenching his thirst, the old man told ‘’I thought you were going to be as malicious as the women who dumped their menstrual linen on us. However, to reward your kindness, I give you this whistle and bell, take them home and anytime you want to see us, climb up that hill and at the summit blow this whistle thrice and ring the bell thrice, we shall appear before you, ready to attend to you and to receive all you will bring to us.
This instruction hitherto has never changed. Ta Mba’nka rushed to the palace, broke the news and unveiled the instruments before the Fon. The latter mobilized his etat major and they ascended the hill, followed the instructions of blowing and ringing the whistle and bell respectively. Sparkling water zoomed up in front of them. A soothsayer rose from the middle and led the Fon and his team back into the lake and performed rituals.  After, the Fon and his delegation were instructed to go home without looking behind. An instruction which they obeyed till their arrival in Mba’nka’s compound, where a feast was served to celebrate the rediscovery of their ancestors.
The mystery of Lake Awing
Lake Awing is considered as the home of the gods and ancestors of the Awing land, which requires yearly appeasement, to guarantee fertility, peace and love in the land. It is believed that when Awing people, especially those from the royal family die, their souls move to the lake. It is equally said that at certain times in the night, it is common to find the Lake being replaced by a city with lights, and people doing their normal activities. It is just recently that corpses were allowed to be transported through the Lake stretch of the Awing-Bamenda road. Corpses were forbidden to pass through the lake road because it usually provokes the ancestral spirits in the lake.
Also, many people are still to come to terms with the fact that, the Lake is surrounded by a thick forest, but not even a single leaf can been seen in the Lake. Stories have been told about a storm, if an individual dares to throw a stone in the Lake. In 2008, the water in Lake Awing turned muddy, for reasons which were attributed to the ancestors showing their anger, to the disrespect of tradition by the Awing people.

GUINEA BEATS AFRICAN CHAMPIONS IN AN INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY.
Tumblr media
The Syli Nationale of Guinea Conakry has beating the indomitable lions of Cameroon 2-1 in an international friendly.
In an ecounter played this Tuesday March 28, 2017 at the Edmond Machtens stadium in Brussels, Cameroon’s coach, Hugo Broos played with an experimental team, giving more play time to non-regulars and new comers in the squad.
The Guineans took total control of the first segment of the encounter, mounting much pressure on the Cameroon’s defense. The Syli Nationale soon raced the curtains at the 19th minute, when Aboubacar Demba Camara capitalized on Cameroon’s defensive lapses, to slot the ball pass goalkeeper Jules Goda.
The indomitable lions step up their game, and put the match on parity 10 minutes later when Karl Toko Ekambi pounced on a rebound of Jacque Zoa’s strike, beating goalkeeper Abdoulaye Seguele of Guinea. Francois Kamano restored Guinea’s lead few minutes from break, latching in a beautiful cross from Aboubacar Demba Camara.
Both Hugo Broos and Lappe Bangoura made several changes after the break, with the likes of Benjamin Moukandjo, Arnaud Djoum, Vincent Aboubakar and Zambo Anguisa bringing in more impetus for Cameroon, but the Guinean back four masterminded by Captain Florentin Pogba making nonsense of any incursion into their camp.
When Belgian central referee Lardot Jonathan blasted the final whistle, the Guinean fans bust up in celebration, singing ‘’Cameroon dans la Sauce’’, a song which has been considered as Cameroon’s victory song since the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The outcome of the encounter might not be satisfactory for Hugo Broos, but he used the opportunity to evaluate his squad ahead of the confederations cup slated in Russia in June, where Cameroon has been drawn in the same group alongside Germany, Chile and Australia, and preparations for back to back world cup qualifiers against Nigeria in August.

APONGNWU AFESEH ALOMONWING JOURNALISM: II 14C0006-J                                  APONGNWU AFESEH IN 2035 With Cameroon hoping to become an Emerging Economy by the year 2035, its citizens are not left out. I, being a level two journalism student in the Advance School of Mass communication, ASMAC and with only one year to complete my degree program, I hope to have started  practicing  journalism by 2018. Just 20 years old now, by 2035 which is the next 20years, I would have become a mature man of about 40years of age. My dreams of becoming a journalist started when I was still in my tender age. I used to follow news very keenly, and admire the way journalist present news on radio and television. Throughout my educational career, I have been working hard, to make my dreams come true. During my secondary school life, I have been trying to accomplish my dreams, by joining the journalism club, where I used to read news. When I completed secondary education, and wrote the entrance exams in to ASMAC, which I succeeded, I started seen my dreams slowly but steadily coming true. In the next 20years, I just see myself working in one of the big media organs in the world as a sport reporter, which I admire so much, practicing my profession with a lot of fairness, respecting the ethics of the profession, and fighting for the right of the deprived and the under-privilege. Not forget the part played by the forces of nature in the lives of every individual and the fact that a union between a man and a woman was decreed in the holy book so many centuries ago, I equally see myself being a responsible man by 2035, with my own family. By 2035, I just see myself contributing very importantly in driving Cameroon towards achieving its 2035 vision, through advocacy and creating awareness to the local population,.  Regarding the much care and endless love showed to me by my parents, I am supposed to by 2035, be in the rightful position, to show them back that love, by taking good care of them. Despite all these good plans toward 2035, all I have to do is to work hard, and have a proper planning for it, because it is often said that failing to plan is planning to fail. Envisaging 2035 is good; so as to concentrate in achieving my dreams, for there is a saying that you cannot climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pocket. Before 2035 approaches, I would have had much experience that will make my presence in the practice of journalism greatly felt the population, because life is like a teacher, the more you live, the more you learn.
