Lacey looked up as she saw Mr. Gold come out of the shop. She quickly hid her cigarette but then realized she couldn't hide the smell. "Did you need something, Mr. Gold?" she asked. "I'll be back in just a minute."

"Then I'll make sure to do it more often," Belle remarked. "It's better than crying." She agreed. After all, crying just upset her.

He could hear Belle, his maid reading to him. Usually he became so engrossed in the wheel all other noise was blocked out, but that wasn't the case today. He couldn’t quite make out what she was reading, but he couldn't deny that the combination of his beloved wheel spinning and his caretaker reading was extremely relaxing.

"Well I have to admit, the sound of you reading is much better than your constant crying..."

Belle paused in her reading to look up at him. "I wasn't sure if you'd appreciate it or not, but I couldn't stand the silence anymore. I honestly don't see how you do it."
