I heard this song was a sad one about illness so I thought it might be nice to capture the first time hearing it with my warrior of a mama. For a moment it felt like the world stopped, it was just her and I sitting on that bed. I forgot I was filming. And suddenly all the words I never knew how to say right or without crying to ma, were being said in the room, but they didn’t have to come out of my mouth, because these words were being beautifully sung by Taylor and a band mom and I listened to during my childhood, the Dixie chicks. It’s like my childhood years with mom and my teen and young 20s of mom being ill were combined by these voices. In 2010 the doctors gave her 6 months to live, stage 3 ovarian cancer. But she kept telling herself she HAS to get better. And in 2017 when the spinal tumor almost paralyzed her and the doctors said she’d never walk again, I said you HAVE to get better so we can go see everything we still want to see. I want to hug my mommy forever and ever and never let go. Friends and boys come and go but she’s my best friend forever by my side, what would I do without her.. Thank you Taylor for giving me a song to hold onto when I feel like no one understands me. You’re my safety blanket. @varelarachel
