A week later after Agar.io was released, they entered the Steam Greenlight together with the developer, announcing their free-to-play variant of the system. He even gave more information about how they are going to include more features for the Steam version that is not in the browser version.

Super Mario Bros U – WII Throwback review

There are so many Super Mario games with “New” in front of the title that you’ll see bewildered parents standing in the aisles of game shops holding one in each hand and trying to remember which of the other words their child might have mentioned. And yet, the arrival of the Wii U on November 30th will bring us another with the  launch title New Super Mario Bros. U. Like the other “New” Super Mario games, this is a higher-definition return to the classical 2D platformer. Like New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii, the emphasis is on co-operative play. And like Rayman Legends, asymmetrical co-op provides new possibilities, including the chance that the Gamepad player will have much less fun than everyone else.

When I played a demo level at Eurogamer Expo last week, I was lucky enough to be accompanied by four friends – the maximum number of extra players New Super Mario Bros. U allows. Four of us controlled standard Mario characters – though this game will also let you play as your Mii (a digital representation of yourself) – and a friend who had been particularly keen to try out the new gadget held the Gamepad. He had no on-screen character, and instead took the role of an invisible hand, placing platforms with the touchscreen for those looking at the bigger screen to jump on.

Obviously, the appearance of platforms can be a help or a hindrance to those playing with the more familiar controls. On the one hand, special coins can appear out of reach, and if none of the characters have the ability to jump or fly that high then a quick request made to the Gamepad player can bring these things within reach. But communication is key. If the Gamepad player places a platform in another player’s way – intentionally or not – it can cause disruption.

The demo we played suggested that New Super Mario Bros. U does not give the Gamepad player something else to do when they’re not needed to help things along, which is where the possibility for boredom comes in. New Super Mario Bros. U is just as hectic and generally fast-paced as New Super Mario Bros, and just as crowded with four characters on screen.

In that kind of game, players don’t tend to stop and plan things out. The Gamepad player may be faced either with placing platforms based on predictions of the other players’ needs rather than on request, or just sitting back and waiting for those services to be needed.

As the release date of New Super Mario Bros. U draws closer, we may see more information on what the Gamepad brings to the game, and perhaps a more balanced – if still asymmetrical – way to play. Even if not, New Super Mario Bros. U is, just like its predecessor, incredibly fun to play, especially with friends. It just might not be the game that makes you buy the console you need to play it.

Borderlands 2 from Gearbox Software Borderlands 2 is more than adequate as a single-player game, but it also fills a hole as far as cooperative play is concerned, and it does so with buckets of style. With its outrageous humour and cartoony graphics, Borderlands 2 makes a mockery of more serious first-person shooters while retaining what makes those games so much fun. And there’s so much to do that you’ll be able to keep having fun for hours and hours.

One thing that started to make Borderlands feel like a bit of a slog a dozen or so hours in was the repetitive nature of the side quests. While it was still always fun to head off to a different cartoony environment and use your range of procedurally generated cartoony weapons to take out a horde of cartoony bandits, the end goals started to feel a bit hollow. In Borderlands 2, they’ve relieved that by adding a little more variety. You’ll still be sent on fetch quests, inevitably, but the unique characters found throughout Pandora will also have plenty more irregular requests for you to undertake.

The humour has been beefed up too. Claptrap has a whole new personality, or at least it’s far more noticeable this time around, and you’ll find yourself swinging between wanting to put a bullet hole in him to wanting to give him a hug. The villain, Handsome Jack, is wonderfully executed, as he frequently chips in over your character’s radio device to offer a new piece of sarcastic commentary. There are also two new female characters, proving that it is possible to include girls and women in a game without making them damsels in distress or just pieces of scenery.

There are two playable female characters to choose from too, although only one of them is free with the game, the other available only as DLC. But it’s still worth it if you’re playing through with a friend and you both want to play as a female character, because the downloadable Mechromancer has plenty going for her. Most notably, she can summon a robot to help her out, and when she levels up you have the choice of assigning new skills to the robot as well as to her. It’s awesome to see the ways in which the different characters can work together, too – for example, Maya using her siren powers to hold an enemy in the air for the Mechromancer’s robot to take out.

Whether you’re traversing the dangerous wastes of Pandora with a friend or going it alone, you’re bound to enjoy the journey Borderlands 2 takes you on. Despite the multitude of side quests ensuring that playing the game fully will take you quite some time, you’ll still be disappointed to reach the end. But with different characters to try out and seemingly endless varieties of procedurally generated weapons to find, there’s definitely reason to play it through again.

How to Beat Dishonored as a Ghost

Dishonored is a game set in a dystopian city called Dunwall, in which you play a man who was the bodyguard to the Empress until he was framed for her murder. The Empress’ daughter has been kidnapped, and so you set off to find her and right the wrongs done to you.

To help with that, you’re given a varied selection of weapons and supernatural abilities with which to take out each of your main targets and anyone who gets in your way.

Or, you can achieve your end goals without killing or even being spotted by any of your enemies. It sounds hard to believe, but some might say this is how the game is meant to be played.

Although you’re given weapons that kill, you’re also given ways to avoid conflict – you can, for example, possess a rat and scurry through the sewers beneath your enemy’s feet – and there is an emphasis on stealth.

There are even achievements for playing this way – the ‘ghost’ achievement for never raising an enemy’s awareness level to capacity, and the ‘clean hands’ achievement for never spilling blood – but how to get them?

 Play it through the murderous way first

If you tried to play it the stealthy way on your first go, you’d likely get frustrated. Sneaking around an enemy rather than just taking him out takes far longer, and is far more likely to fail.

To avoid the temptation to whip out your crossbow and shoot obstacles in the head, get all that out of your system by playing the game without trying to get either of these achievements first. It won’t take too long, and you’ll be able to see the different end to the story.

 Be patient

As mentioned above, playing the game so stealthily that you are not spotted can take much longer than the alternative, especially since if you want to get ‘clean hands’ you can’t just take enemies out from a distance before they’ve seen you.

So if you’re feeling stressed, play something else instead; you’ll only be able to get these achievements if you’ve got a lot of patience. But you will be rewarded; there’s a lot to discover in Dunwall if you take the time to sneak around it and explore.

 Save often

Getting spotted even once will prevent you from getting the ‘ghost’ achievement, and the same is true for ‘clean hands’ if you accidentally drop an unconscious body in the sea (where its owner will inevitably drown) or – like I did – leave one in a closed dumpster.

So make sure you save regularly throughout each mission so that if you get to that end screen to discover you’ve been spotted or killed once, you don’t have to go all the way back to the start.

Finally, when it comes to your main targets, those big baddies you’re sent out to kill, remember that there is always another way to get rid of them. The best way to find this alternate method of disposal is to take your time exploring the level, talk to people if they’re friendly and eavesdrop on their conversations if they aren’t.

The game is designed so that you should easily pick up the information you need to complete the mission non-lethally. And when you’ve managed it, you’ll probably find that it was a lot more satisfying than sticking a sword through their chest.

THE CANNON SPLIT TACTIC

  There are many agario strategies and tactics players use to dominate the game and other players. The cannon split tactic is one of them. This tactic is a very effective way of gaining mass really quickly and other players probably won’t even know what hit them.

  Keep in mind that you need a teammate with lots of experience to use this tactic. The both of you will have to practice the move first, before being ready to use it on other players. It takes some time to get used to, but once you master it, no one will be able to beat you at agar.io. Furthermore, if you want to make things even easier, you can use our agario cheats to get bigger. So, how does this tactic work?

  Cannon Split Tactic Walk-through

  First, find a teammate who is capable of carrying out the task needed. When you find him, enter the same game session and work together right from the start. The both of you should focus on gaining some mass first. One has to be four times as big as the other. This is absolutely crucial because the tactic won’t work otherwise.

When you gain enough mass, you have to get in position to perform the cannon split tactic. The bigger one of you has to split into two pieces. Those pieces have to be twice as big as the smaller player. Then, the smaller player has to get between his teammate’s cells and wait for the next step.

  Then, the player with two big cells has to split in front of you a couple of times, very quickly. This will make his cells smaller, but there will be many of them. Follow his lead by splitting your cell and eating his. Your cell will then gain the mass of all his cells and grow really fast. The team has to be well prepared because one small mistake can end up in disaster. You have to leave one of your teammate’s cells untouched, or else you would eat him.

  Now, when your cell is so large, you will be the one that splits the cells first, your teammate will then eat your cells and the cycle continues. Keep in mind that the both of you have to split at the same moment to stop other large players from eating your smaller cells.

  Many players on the map are totally unaware of this tactic and they have no idea how to escape your attacks. The good thing about this agario strategy is that you can tackle much larger players without problems if you time the move right. Perform this move for a couple of times and your name will rise to the top of the leaderboard in seconds.
