Hi! I'm a trans woman who's been on tumblr for well over a decade posting my photography, my writing (political and smut), and can say the people here have changed my life tremendously over the years. Right now I'm really struggling and hoping that ya'll can help me get through this rough patch. I have been trying to get a job for months now and no companies have so much as graced me with a rejection e-mail or phone call. Last month my husband had to spend the last of his savings on replacing tires on his car, that money was very pivotal to paying rent + having money to grocery shop off of. We're in desperate need of help with rent, electricity, meds, etc. etc.

Hey. so. i probably can't post too many details due to the pending legal stuff, but basically my old roommate is taking me to court for $800+ moving expenses, plus a bunch of other ridiculous remedies. If i didn't have a lawyer coworker who agreed to help idk what I'd do. I thought the abuse was finally over when he moved out, but now he's pulling this junk. Fortunately i have a literal mountain of receipts on this situation.

Unfortunately, this situation is burning though my money. Ive had some help with the printing costs, but still not quite all of the ~$85 i spent printing relevant documents at FedEx office. I also spent $85 on cameras for the house because my roommates and i were concerned about him or his bf's coming back to try stuff, and also ~$30 on house keys for the new locks. Oh how could i forget $65 on a couch since he stole our couch when he moved out, tho i also had some help with that cost.

I was intending to update my phone this month since my current one's battery life is starting to get.. problematic. but dealing with this money pit has completely drained my funds. I'm down to $24 in my bank accounts and out of food. I dont get more food stamps until the 3rd, and even then my monthly allotment was reduced from $105 to $26 because the paystubs i submitted during redetermination were from when i had a bunch of extra hours when my coworker was recovering from surgery. I plan to resubmit stubs once i get my next paycheck, but in the meantime i just have to make do.

If you can share/give anything at all will go a long way towards helping us get through this.

hey so. my food stamps redetermination was good, system says case number was approved for medicaid and food stamps

However, theres something wrong with the dhs dispersal system, and no one is getting their fucking benefits. i was supposed to get mine a week ago on the 3rd. I've been calling them all week, but have only managed to get an actual person once, who hung up on my almost immediately. i am running out of money, i need that $130 so i can eat please jesus fuck im fuckin dying here. i cant even get in the on hold line due to 'unusually high call volumes'

This disability pride month I'm BEGGING you to acknowledge and care about the people in this community who often fly under the radar when it comes to positivity and information. People who require equipment to live, like ventilators, pacemakers, and feeding tubes. People who are bedbound. People with visible differences. People who have disabilities caused by things like substance abuse, overdose, or self harm. People with conditions so rare that they've never met someone who has the same one. People who need full time care and have to have help to use social media.

If you want to support the community, that means supporting all of the community. Disability pride means being proud of every last one of us, and making sure everyone feels heard. Make sure to amplify the voices of those who need it this month, and ideally for the rest of the year too.

Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.

"what did students do before chatgpt?" well one time i forgot i had a history essay due at my 10am class the morning of so over the course of my 30 minute bus ride to school i awkwardly used by backpack as a desk, sped wrote the essay, and got an A on it.

six months later i re-read the essay prior to the final exam, went 'ohhhh yeah i remember this', got a question on that topic, and aced it.

point being that actually doing the work is how you learn the material and internalize it. ChatGPT can give you a short cut but you won't build you the the muscles.

Hi, so once again I am raising funds for a transition related surgery. First of all, thank you to everyone who donated to my earlier fundraiser five years ago. My top surgery was successful and has really helped me feel more comfortable in my body.

Now I am pursuing facial feminization surgery with Dr. Andrew Marano at East Coast Advanced Plastic Surgery. This procedure will be much more involved than my breast augmentation, and may even require a brief hospital stay. That being said, it will be well worth it. Especially now, in 2025, my ability to "pass" as biologically female is more important than ever to avoid violence and discrimination. This surgery will go a long way toward that goal.

I have insurance through my work, but I still have to pay coinsurance and have an out of pocket maximum of 5000 dollars. I am looking for help to cover this remaining amount, as otherwise this medical debt will likely hang over me for years to come. As someone in the process of starting her career in university teaching after finally getting my graduate degree, I do not have much money to spare and am already doing what I can to save and cut back.

Please consider donating if you can. I know that there are a lot of other worthy causes out there right now, but this would be a huge direct help to me and I would be eternally grateful. Otherwise, please share this fundraiser widely.

If we wanted to engage in nuance (lol, lmao) on the "are audiobooks reading" debate, we really do need to bring literacy, and especially blind literacy, into the conversation.

Because, yes, listening to a story and reading a story use mostly the same parts of the brain. Yes, listening to the audiobook counts as "having read" a book. Yes, oral storytelling has a long, glorious tradition and many cultures maintained their histories through oral history or oral + art history, having never developed a true written language, and their oral stories and histories are just as valid and rich as written literature.

We still can't call listening in the absence of reading "literacy."

The term literacy needs to stay restricted to the written word, to the ability to access and engage with written texts, because we need to be able to talk about illiteracy. We need to be able to identify when a society is failing to teach children to read, and if we start saying that listening to stories is literacy, we lose the ability to describe those systemic failures.

Blind folks have been knee-deep in this debate for a long time. Schools struggle to provide resources to teach students Braille and enforcing the teaching of Braille to low-vision and blind children is a constant uphill battle. A school tried to argue that one girl didn't need to learn Braille because she could read 96-point font. Go check what that is. The new prevalence of audiobooks and TTS is a huge threat to Braille literacy because it provides institutions with another excuse to not provide Braille education or Braille texts.

That matters. Braille-literate blind and low-vision people have a 90% employment rate. For those who don't know Braille, it's 30%. Braille literacy is linked to higher academic success in all fields.

Moving outside the world of Braille, literacy of any kind matters. Being able to read text has a massive impact on a person's ability to access information, education, and employment. Being able to talk about the inability to read text matters, because that's how we're able to hold systems accountable.

So, yes, audiobooks should count as reading. But, no, they should not count as literacy.
