There was a more notable smile on their face now.

"Ah, she sounds like a wonderful woman, caring for orphans like that. I myself never knew my birth parents. And that wish is quite a respectable one. Having the strength to protect those that you care for and using it to protect them is quite a nice thing. But I think this journey of self-discovery of yours is also reasonable.” They pause, another question popping up into their head, “How do you fight? If you don’t mind sharing, that is.”

Shay blinked then blushed sheepishly and ruffled her hair. “Right, I probably did aye? Nice to meet you Basil. Alright, if all you want is a guide there, then that is what I’ll be.” she grinned and began to walk off into the forest, remembering a path she saw on a map she had to the nearest town.

“So, are you just a simple traveler like myself? I wanted to stay home and guard my family back in Shurima but my mother insisted I go on a journey to see more of the world and discover myself. Like…where I actually came from.”

Basil follows, easily keeping up in pace alongside Shay as they walk together through the forest. There’s a small smile on their face as they walk along. Things are turning out well, for now at least. They turn their face slightly towards Shay’s at the question, 

“Matter of circumstances, really. Can’t tell you now,” Because they have no idea why, but no need for her to know about that just yet, “Though your story sounds more interesting than mine. What’s your family like? And what of yourself? Have you discovered yourself yet, or are you still searching?”

Shay blinked then blushed sheepishly and ruffled her hair. “Right, I probably did aye? Nice to meet you Basil. Alright, if all you want is a guide there, then that is what I’ll be.” she grinned and began to walk off into the forest, remembering a path she saw on a map she had to the nearest town.

While outwardly Basil appeared to be fairly neutral at this development only giving a small smile. Inwardly, they were fairly relieved. At the least they’ll have some company in this land. And even though she was fairly new to the area, it’s still leagues better than their own absolutely zero experience with this area and the surrounding locales. 

"I believe you mentioned that before, Ms. Pierina. Still, call me Basil. And as for exploring around, I’ll defer to your judgement on that. I only wish to reach the nearest town, but if you find anything interesting and wish to investigate I’ll aid you if I can. You seem to have your head on right better than I do. So,” They gesture to the surrounding areas, as if to show off the forest they knew nothing about, “Please, lead the way.”

Shay tilted her head curiously at the other, seeing their eyes briefly. “Hey, that’s kind of like me. I’m from a small village that happens to be in Shurima. No real name. No contact outside much either. They’re kind of poor too. But I was convinced to go on a journey to see what the world has to offer. To find out more about myself. Though I haven’t decided on a real direction to go.”

Basil nodded along as they listened to Shay’s explanation, before an idea comes to mind. Yes, that might work to their advantage, “Ah, is that so? Well, that is quite the coincidence.” They gave a friendly, practiced smile, before continuing, “Still, it is nice to meet a fellow traveler. Though, I’m loathe to admit that sometimes my sense of direction isn’t the best at times.” Not exactly true but this is a foreign land they are in. They’ll take anything they can get, “If you would not mind, may I accompany you on your travels? At least until we reach a town or city, that is.“

A short pause, before, “Though, I would not mind if you decline. I am, in essence, a complete stranger to you. The only things I would have to offer you would be my skill with a sword and an extra pair of hands.”

Shurima? That’s... not something they’ve heard of at all. Something to investigate, at least. Raising a hand up to their face, they stick a thumb under the blindfold covering their eyes and lift it up slightly, revealing yellow eyes under there. They don’t seem to have lost their sight as their cold gaze flicks towards her ears, widening slightly before they let the blindfold fall over their eyes once more.

“Ah, I see. Then it’s a pleasure to meet you acquaintance, Miss Pierina.” And as for where they’re from… perhaps they can weave a lie, for now. Until they gain their bearings at least, “I’m from a small village. I doubt you’d even heard of it. Didn’t have much of a name, last I checked either. Not much contact with the world outside, even.”

There was a rustling in a bush in the middle of a forest as a bronze skinned woman with snowy white cat ears and a tail stalked the grounds on all fours. She was sniffing around when she thought she saw something strange. Her eyes were playing tricks on her, thinking what she was seeing was a large bug or something else fun to catch.

She crept up to take a closer look before leaping in front of her. “Go…tcha?” she at first shouted then paused as she realized the person in front of her looked like a human with animal features. “You’re not a bug! Who..are you?” the cat girl asked, sitting on all fours like a normal cat would with ears folded back.

Well, this certainly is a strange predicament. Basil didn’t quite recall going to the forest, and wasn’t quite sure where they were at the moment. Their confusion compounded when the cat girl leapt from a bush towards them. Their hand immediately shot towards their weapon... before hearing what she says. 

“...” They pause in their confusion, before relaxing. Letting their arm fall to the side before giving a small, languid smile. “I should hope I’m not a bug. I doubt they have the best of lives.” Amused by the cat girl’s question, they give a small bow, “Feel free to call me Basil. If you would, can you tell me your name?”
