dead apple's discography: 1/?
review taken from their local newspaper:
Dead Apple's debut EP 'Running Out of Time' has hit all streaming platforms, and despite the title, they are doing anything but. Their punk rock influences shine throughout, as well as co-lead singer Arabella Aveiro's love for Fiona Apple, partially to credit for their band name. The band consists of its other lead singer, Seven Duckstein, guitarist Rowan Hart, bassist Devyn Powell, drummer Jazzy Drake, and Iris De Luca on the keys. Each track has a emotional tie in to at least one person in the group, making the five tracks feel as though you're experiencing their lives yourselves.
When the current 11th graders of our own Green Meadow High were asked about this, Aveiro simply said:
"We want to make music that people can relate to. I think it’s more rewarding when you create something that you love, and that other people can love as well. Making these songs with my friends has been so fun, and we can't wait to make more music together."
For everyone's sakes, let's hope this band never runs out of time.
cover and songs breakdown under the cut <3
the cover was taken by seven when the whole gang went to the city. devyn had just got her license and her parents let them take the minivan to fit everyone LMFAO and arabella stuck her head out the window on the drive home. earlier versions of the ep had seven on the back cover doing the same pose (arabella had taken that photo in return <3), but after the breakup any physical copies printed had the same picture on the front but blurred.
where the heart is
written by: jazzy and seven
the drums on this song YOU KNOW jazzy had a hand in this! she wanted to write a song for the ep and was kinda struggling but seven helped her out :) so this is one of their many co-written songs together <3 this being the opener is so fitting for me because of lines like "6:30 alarm, brush my teeth, and start the car" and "it's time to go home again, that's so boring"
starting off at 6:30 am, early in the morning, starting off this ep with this song just feels fitting to me! and the whole "i hate my town" rite of passage most punk rock bands go through!
favorite lyrics:
"all in all, i've always had the same thoughts riling up my heart // and all in all, i haven't changed a single thing to feel differently"
"my mind's been in a million places, but my body hasn't moved an inch"
"if i could just take a chance, i wouldn't feel so bad // to see past myself, i wouldn't feel so bad"
baby tonight
written by: devyn, arabella
this is just an iris and devyn love song im afraid! i have this VIVID headcanon of devyn coming up to arabella and being like "i wrote some lyrics for a song about iris can you help me out" and arabella IMMEDIATELY being on board! i imagine devyn inviting iris over to her house and the whole band already being there in the garage ready to play this song for her :) it's such a cute lil moment and i like to think whenever they have a gig on or around iris' birthday or their anniversary they play this song! they put this on their first ep because they love devyn and iris and SO DO I!
favorite lyrics:
"she's a diamond in my fucked up world // prettier than the pearls that lay around on her neck // she makes me so fucking SICK!"
"so baby won't you take my life? or maybe you could crush my soul?"
red with love
written by: seven
unrequited love is really something else huh LMFAO i like to think that seven wrote this after him and arabella went to a party and played spin the bottle which resulting in them kissing for the first time (which later on when they're dating arabella doesn't count it as their first kiss because her eyes were open and the kiss was horrendously bad because that's her BEST FRIEND and she CANNOT have feelings for her BEST FRIEND-)
anyways ! i think seven started developing some sort of feelings for arabella after that and this song is the product of a late night writing session on his roof. when he shows it to the band they're like "who the HELL is this about" and arabella just looks at him like she knows and is immediately just like "let's practice it right now!" much to seven's relief.
when they're dating though and they perform this song together i like to think that after the line "you kiss me so sweetly, it gets me high" arabella ALWAYS without fail would kiss seven on the cheek :)
they stop performing this song when seven leaves the band.
favorite lyrics:
"the sunlight through my windowpane illuminates your face // i need you closer and you're not even an inch away"
"when you come home, you call my name // believe me when i say // tomorrow i will love you more than i did yesterday"
"i can't seem to get enough // it makes me sweat, you’re in my head // it turns me red with love"
sleep to dream
written by: arabella, iris
this bitch loves fiona apple idk what to tell you. i imagine that during high school arabella dated the WORST people but that just fueled her writing so she wrote this after one particularly bad boyfriend. iris also helped with the piano composition! i fear these breakup songs will become a pattern for arabella in later works LMFAO
favorite lyrics:
"i tell you how you feel, but you don't care // i say tell me the truth, but you don't dare // you say love is a hell you cannot bare // and i say gimme mine back and then go there, for all i care"
"this mind, this body, and this voice cannot be stifled by your deviant ways // so don't forget what i told you // don't come around, i got my own hell to raise"
where the lines overlap
written by: arabella, rowan
just the first of MANY certified rowanbella classics! rowan came up with the basic chords and arabella wrote the lyrics. this song is just them basically saying we're so happy to be in this band with our friends and we hope that never ever changes and it WON'T… right?
anywayyyy.. this song is an absolute crowd favorite and whenever they play a gig they always play this one last :)
favorite lyrics:
"no one is as lucky as us, we're not at the end but oh, we already won"
"now i've got a feeling if i sang this loud enough, you would sing it back to me"

thank you for the tag my love @veeples !! sorry this is so late ! i’m tagging @trystanthorne @farahhauville and @agentdumortain please tell me ab ur if oc’s as well as ur choices mc’s <3 i think that counts and if it doesn’t idc i’m still counting it
FAVORITE OC: sofía :) it’s not a surprise! i’ve just put way more time into fleshing her out so she’s just more real to me than my other oc’s – i love all my children equally, but only one of them calls on mother’s day yfm?
NEWEST OC: benni! i made her for twc (eyeroll bc even a new oc couldn’t bring me back to b3) but she is thriving in infamous !!
OLDEST OC: this is where my choices mc’s come in <3 i think the first character i spent time fleshing out was either my tfs mc claudia or my open heart mc spencer! those were the first two i vividly remember giving personalities outside of whatever was canon
MEANEST OC: flor :/ they’re maladjusted! what can i say!
SOFTEST OC: my roc mc raquel! she was a soft pushover before becoming a criminal overnight and even though she’s definitely changed, she is hands down the softest of the bunch and i love her for it (you’d think i’d say sofía, but she’s a lot stronger than both she and i give her credit for)
MOST ALOOF OC: part of me wanted to say flor again, but tbh i think it’s dom – a choices mc from the book platinum, now turned oc for infamous! she was hungry for success but jaded by the fame, and her experiences are the reason she has to actively choose to treat singing like a profession instead of a passion! something something, this isn’t what she thought it would be
DUMBEST OC: this is so fucking funny bc i actively choose to make two of my oc’s dumb as fuck so shoutout to gg and benni <3 they’re definitely tied for first but ramona is a close second LMAO i love my dummies they are all stupid in their own way and i kiss them for it
SMARTEST OC: sofía has the book smarts, del has the street smarts, and carrie has the survival instinct! i consider them experts in their own way :) but sofía definitely is the smartest in the traditional sense
OC I’D BE FRIENDS WITH: ramona <3333333 she’s a girl’s girl, like in the purest definition of the sense <3 zero jealousy. always supportive. the perfect hype girl. will be the best friend you ever had (but the problem is that she’s everyone’s best friend so she’s no one’s best friend cough cough cough). honestly the only ocs i think i wouldn’t vibe with are dom and flor LMAO i’d get along w everyone else !!

29 for the twc ask game 🫶
HI ZOE TY FOR THIS <333 I LOVE THIS QUESTION
29. if they could have chosen a different profession, what would it be?
so my gal sofía had huge aspirations before joining wpd – she planned on going to med school, but at the last minute, she psyched herself out AND bobby convinced her out of it. he was going back home to work in wayhaven, so he suggested she take a gap year! their relationship was already on the rocks, and sofía didn't want to make it worse with distance ESPECIALLY bc she was so unsure of committing to four more years of school (even though she'd dreamed about it since she was a kid). in that gap year, bobby dumped her :(
anyway, if she would've gone to med school, i see her as working in a fast paced hospital in the city for a while, choosing to stay an attending physician instead of rising in the ranks, before eventually opening up her own small family practice in wayhaven or somewhere like it! but if she didn't go to med school, like in her canon, then she'd go the forensics route and have taken a lab job instead :) it's a big reason why verda is her canon bestie hehe
i also think it's a huge possibility that if verda had gotten the lab position first before she was stuck in wayhaven she'd opt for teaching biology in at the local middle/high school <3

“Benita Soza, known as ‘Benni’ to her fans – prides herself in being a influential contributor to the new wave of Riot grrrl bands. Unapologetically punk and eager to push back against constricting societal norms, UPPERCUNT has blasted onto the scene with no intention of backing down. Paying homage to the Riot grrrls that came before her, Benni constantly alludes to her favorite groups in every song – whether it be in the lyrics or the sound, she owes it all to them. “I’m a walking love letter to my idols,” she says. Style isn’t her biggest concern – performing is. That’s why she opts for loose tops and jeans, usually faded colors, her go-to attire whatever she’d managed to thrift within her budget. “I’ll splurge on a weird hat, though,” she laughs.”

please i just have one question about seven that hasn't left my mind... if mc were to call them on the phone, out of the blue with no explanation, would seven answer it?
Seven would stare at the phone, probably feel every single emotion they have ever felt, pick up and not say anything.
And then once MC speaks, they’d hang up out of fear or panic.
And then be very tempted to call back but ultimately not do it.

Do you have any kind of rough timeline of events leading up to BOTB and during BOTB? Kind of like, when MC met 7, the rest of the band, when the band formed (when/if the relationship happened and ended), when The Fight was, and BOTB stages?
Ah. I had plans to make a timeline and I completely forgot. It was a BIG request. (Lucky I had a draft saved)
Apologies to all non-Americans! I'll try to add their ages to make it a bit easier to understand for those who may not know.
Middle school (7th grade) (11 - 12 years old)
Seven and MC meet as they are in the same class and have assigned seats together. Somehow they missed each other last year but they get close very quickly!
Middle school (8th grade) (13 - 14 years old)
They graduate from middle school and are best friends at this point. They go to each other's houses and hang out often. Spent all summer together. MC's parents are beginning to get busier and Seven's dad's presence is growing more sporadic again.
High School ( 14 - 18 years old)
They enter high school and end up in the same class as Rowan, Devyn, Jazzy, and Iris who enters about a month later as she moved homes.
Seven and MC start getting into music as most youth™ do. Seven and MC run around their own circles but remain close. Talks of music grow and jokes about starting a band become less jokes and more planning. Somehow they all end up in a band and are actually practicing in Devyn's garage.
As they get serious they start doing gigs. Small ones like school dances and birthday parties for the kids around town. They work part-time jobs and Rowan commissions art to scrounge up money for actual instruments they own instead of renting them out from the school's band club. They start making their own original music.
They release their first EP to, like, 20 sales hahaha but it's enough for them to stop doing covers and start getting serious about original music.
They graduate and keep playing.
After High School
They start releasing more music and start growing a steady following. Their music grows in popularity and with their gigs, they can start quitting their jobs and doing it full time, though the money is still tight. They're on a steady incline that only escalates once they hit 21 years old and have full freedom to gig wherever they want.
This is up to headcanon but I like to think that Seven and MC began dating at 21 years old (for those romancing seven.)
22 years old
Seven and MC get matching tattoos (once again, I leave this to headcanon). The band grows in popularity.
23 years old.
The vote happens + things start to break down. The fight and Seven officially leaves the band.
24 years old
Orion comes into the picture. Seven spends their bday alone but eventually joins Soft Violence.
25 years old
All of them trying to make a name for themself. Soft Violence blows up with Seven as lead singer.
26 years old
BOTB auditions.
--
SO it's been 3 years since the Seven fight, 2 since Orion came in and Soft Violence formed.
Everything happened really fast, but I prefer that the pain and everything is still fresh!

Oh, damn. No 25 with MC trying to protect/take care of Seven in a dangerous situation sounds nice.
Hope you feel better soon, Amy! Take care!
Thank you! <3 Dangerous situation, you say?

Double whammy (the amount of seven asks...)
CW: blood
This is all your fault.
You shouldn't have said anything. You shouldn't have fought with the person at the bar. You should've left it alone.
You should've known that Seven wouldn't let it go. Even when they hate you.
You should've known Seven. Has it been that long that you forgot who they were? Once, they were as familiar to you as the very lines on your palm.
"Seven, please."
You're holding onto them as you two stumble out of the bar, moving like two drunkards though both of you are terribly sober. The warm sensation of Seven's blood on your shirt sends dull fear over you. You're spiraling. Breaking. You don't know what to do.
Seven lets you guide them outside, your arms wrapped closely around them as they keep a hand under their nose which spews blood like an open faucet. It sends another round of fear down your spine, but it's not their nose that has you so breathless you're dizzy.
Their stomach.
In the heat of the moment, the person Seven was fighting threw them on the table littered with glass cups and broken bottles. Seven claims to be fine, but the way blood makes an angry stain on the green fabric of their shirt and Seven limps like their body is failing them, you know they're anything but.
Seven loses their footing, tripping on the last step and making both you and them fumble to the wet, concrete ground.
Your body shakes when the cool water of the alleyway seeps into your jeans. Seven coughs, rolls on their back, and lets out a sigh.
Blood is smeared across their face, their eyes are hazy, the blooming flower of blood grows larger across their stomach.
Your hands flail in front of you when you get on your knees, fingers shaking, lips shuttering. You feel the burning sting of tears. "Seven, what do I do? My phone is dead. We need to call an ambulance."
Seven groans. Coughs. Their hair turns damp when it sinks into a puddle by their face. "Stop...yelling."
"How can I stop?!" you cry. "I need to see it-" You begin to lift up their shirt but Seven stops you.
"No."
Anger replaces your previous fear. "Seven-"
"I don't want you to."
That hurts. Hurts more than it should in this moment. Seven is hurt, bleeding, and even now they don't want you to touch them, to care for them. Has everything been for nothing? Have all the years you two spent together meant nothing?
"You fucking asshole."
"What?" They burst up and groan, hissing and laying back down.
"I need to help you." The fear returns anew when Seven's eyes glide towards you slowly, their lips parted. Not from pain, but from slight surprise. "Please. I know you hate me. I know you have no reason to trust me. But please... I'm asking you to anyway." You bite your lip to hide the way it shakes. "Please let me help you."
It takes them a moment. They stare at you so long you feel like you're being judged. Then, in a move that shocks you even now, Seven nods and looks away.
"Go ahead."
You clear your throat, slowly peeling the shirt that sticks to the blood on their skin. Seven winces, and you let out a small sound when you catch the piece of glass lodged to their rib.
"Not bad," you try, wincing, "just a tiny piece. You'll be fine."
"Are you trying to convince me or yourself?"
You look at them, ready to shoot them a glare, when you see a small, amused smirk on their face.
"Shut up," you mumble, turning back to their wound.
As you inspect more of their skin, slick with blood, you catch their stomach heave when a small laugh leaves them. You look at Seven, quirking a brow. "You called me an asshole." They look at you. The blood still smeared all across their lower face, they look at you and laugh. "I'm about to die and you call me an asshole."
"You're not about to die," you say strongly and then quieter: "and you are."
Seven hums. "Maybe. Maybe you just bring it out of me."
"That's not helping," you mumble.
You move to lift their shirt higher when you feel a wet hand on your wrist. Seven's blood leaks from their fingers to your skin, but you hardly notice it. Not when they're looking at you with a face so soft it disarms your every defense. "I don't hate you."
Your heart rate quickens. "...You don't?"
They shake their head slowly, stifling a small grown with the movement. "How could I?" they mumble, but don't elaborate.
A sigh leaves them and they glide their gaze to the sky. The sound of an ambulance rings in the distance; the bartender must've called the cops.
"I don't hate you either," you say.
Seven says nothing, but their face twists into a satisfied smile, their eyes closing.
I never did.
and then seven dies. JUST KIDDING

In this way, Reentry is a culmination, a swan song— the end of an era where Shelter in Place was a SoundCloud darling, but little else. Kingston’s lyrics continually revisit ideas of destruction and transformation, and it’s hard not to draw parallels between songs like Chrysalid and the state of the band itself, having weathered a hard year of controversy— both a tumultuous season of Battle of the Bands and the romantic scandal involving Shelter in Place’s lead singer and the actress Vic—

“Ramona Guerrero, known as ‘Ramona’ or ‘Mona’ to her fans – is an unapologetic star. As frontwoman of the ethereal melantronic band glossamer, stepping into the spotlight is as natural to her as her singing ability. Influenced by experimental artists that blur the edges of traditional electronic music, her ambient sound can be attributed to anyone who goes against the grain. Ramona’s not defined by labels or genres, but by feeling, she says. That attitude is reflected in her girlish 00′s-inspired style and trademark pink color palette. She doesn’t care how uncomfortable the piece is, if she can get her hands on a vintage Dior piece, she’s wearing it on stage no matter what – anything to make the experience of seeing glossamer live worth it. In her own words, she’ll be sporting pink in some form ‘every day ‘til she dies’.”

AN INTERVIEW WITH JACKIE COHEN by Isaiah Mock for WHIPLASH MAGAZINE
(Top row: cover art from Jackie Cohen’s solo EPs About Yesterday and Give It Time. Bottom row: cover art of one of Stunts’ EPs “Leaning Backward” and their most recent release, “Didn’t See That Coming”.)
Jackson Cohen, better known as Jackie, is the frontwoman of one of alternative’s underdog up-and-coming bands Stunts. She tells me before she’s even sat down that she never expected to be where she is today. “I know a lot of people say that kind of thing under these circumstances, but I mean it in every sense.”
We discuss the obvious first; how the element of surprise, virality, and speed affects the path and struggles of becoming a public figure. But the singer feels that the "unexpected" sentiment she holds is even more relevant to her and the band's evolution since highschool. "I don't think our music is what we imagined it'd be at all, but we're pretty in love with it. That's a good thing!"
Cohen’s earliest works, both solo and collaborative with various members of Stunts, (past and present) are a far cry from what you’ve most likely heard from her today. Psychedelic pop, sweet and swooning, are accurate descriptors—sometimes even synthesized.
All of those elements are still found in Stunts’ recent projects, but the trajectory of their music has undoubtedly shifted into something heavier. Not darker, but in the literal way, with more weight. Post-punk and rock influences are obvious, especially in lyricism. There’s an air of confidence and lived experience that wasn’t present before. The singer names Jeff Buckley, Slowdive, The Smashing Pumpkins, and The Cure, as just a snippet of her and her bandmate's inspirations. “Y’know, I think—doesn’t everybody want to be someone else a little bit?” She smiles with some humor at the thought, but it’s clear she believes it.
“About Yesterday”, Cohen’s first EP, can be found scattered in many corners of the internet, (not on any formal streaming platforms, as it is rife with uncleared samples) where it’s often named as a favorite by indie popheads from all backgrounds. She made it in her basement with the help of her older brother and a few of his musician friends. “Realizing your older siblings are cool is a tough pill to swallow,” she jokes. “But at some point or another, they realize you’re kind of cool too, and that opens up a whole new world of opportunity. He [Jackie's brother] definitely encouraged my, um, my—penchant for music? That feels dorky to say."
“Artists like Imogen Heap, TV Girl, Mazzy Star; I looked up to them for sure while making that, [About Yesterday] and most of my other stuff too, to be honest. I think it was comfortable and fun to work in that style. I was able to express myself how I needed to at that time, and I still am, it just sounds hugely different from when I was 16.”
I ask her how that change in sound, as vague as that is, came to be. Does she attribute it to anything specific, or feel like it was a natural progression?
"Working as a team, probably? That will always yield different results and force you to "evolve" in some way or another. I was doing the band and my own thing at the same time, [in highschool] though, so if I came up with something I knew wouldn’t fit with Stunts, I could still take it somewhere else if I really wanted to. But I think meeting my friends, my bandmates, that was a really big part of the shift. Probably the biggest. They all have their own unique tastes and styles in what they consume and create. I grew up going to shows, but they have taken me to probably hundreds more at this point, and shown me stuff I wouldn't find on my own. They’re so versatile as musicians and artists, they’re always open to trying all these different things, but they don’t lose their standards or vision in the process. Ever. Um, they’re the best. Sorry—I’m rambling," she laughs. "Does that answer that question at all?”
Not even minutes later, we've bounced through several different subjects, Jackie sometimes asking me more questions than I can ask her. When I had reached out for an interview, she eagerly accepted the opportunity and invited me to come to her apartment rather than my initially suggested café. "Coffee shops can get so fucking loud!" She had emailed me.
We're still in her living room, which also serves as a makeshift studio. (She clarifies: "None of the real recording happens here, I think I would've been evicted by now if that were the case.") The space is small and full, but well organized. There's a few photos framed on her desk-side wall above her monitor, a handful of them I recognize as cover art. I ask her if there's any story behind them.
"Oh—ha, I was really into film in highschool. I still am, I just don't have as much time or opportunities for it right now. But yeah, some of the photos I've used for cover art are mine. Some are just ones I dug up from my parent's basement." She follows my gaze, which lingers on one cover that has been an object of speculation since it's release. "Give It Time."
I glance back at her, understanding if she doesn't want to elaborate on it. Most fans believe it's a photo of her and Seven Lawless, her ex-bandmate and ex-boyfriend, (who, at the time of the EP's release, were both in Stunts but their relationship was not yet public.) but the pixelated editing has left it fairly ambiguous. There are other plausible theories floating online about who it could be.
When I had first arrived at her door, she told me: "I'm an open book with most things, as long as you don't have bad intentions." And I'm not in the business of prying into subjects like that for anyone I interview—but she smiles at me warmly when she realizes what's caught my eye.
"I didn't take that one actually. It's still one of my favorites, though."
There's a comfortable lull in the conversation while I continue to examine the wall, until I point to one that looks only slightly out of place among the rest. There's about five people (you can probably guess who) squished into the frame, all half-dressed and soaking wet with wild grins plastered onto their faces.
She immediately bursts into a fit of laughter. "Okay, maybe not that one. My manager might kill me."
Stream "Didn't See That Coming" here.
