Raw Pumpkin Latte

It is overwhelming these days what you can find in your local grocery or health food store with pumpkin flavor. I love the flavor and aroma of pumpkin with spices in Fall, but what I don’t like is that almost everything out there is processed with artificial flavors and other harmful ingredients for our body.
 I am sure you have heard the expression don’t go on the grocery store when you hungry. It was one of those days that I was tempted to buy a bottle of “Pumpkin Latte” from a well known health food chain. I knew that what is inside is processed I almost put it in my basket when last minute I said look at the INGREDIENTS!!!! I was socked what was inside, more than 20 ingredients that I couldn’t even pronounce. That gave me the inspiration to create a healthy, fresh, raw version of pumpkin latte.
 With no artificial sugar, no dairy, no artificial flavors, no preservatives, no chemicals but only 6 ingredients that come straight from mother earth with so many benefits for our health. Surprise your guests, friends and family this Halloween Season with this healthy drink recipe of “Raw Pumpkin Latte”
You can drink it as it is anytime of the day especially after your workout
You can ad it to your coffee, tea, cereal, oatmeal bowl
You can warm it up with some ghee or coconut butter and drink it before sleep or when you need to relax 
The Recipe

Makes 1 serving about 16oz
 For the juice
 1 cup of raw pumkin
1 medium size sweet potato
2 medium carrots
½ apple
Thumb size raw turmeric root
 For the Almond Milk
1 cup or soaked raw almonds
3 cups of either spring water, rose or coconut water
a pinch of Himalayan salt
spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamon
 There are 2 ways you can combine the ingredients and make the drink
In a professional Slow Juicer (I have Omega VRT350) you can start making the almond milk. In a bowl you have 3 cups of water and 1 cup of almonds. With a big spoon you add the water and almonds to the juicer. Once you done, you can start adding the other ingredients they all combine in  the same Mason jar.
You can make the almond milk separate in a blender and then add the juice. If you don’t have a juicer make separate the almond milk and juice and then combine them. Usually I do half milk and half juice and then I add the spices cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of cardamom.

What is Smudging 
We are like sponges, we absorb energy anywhere we are, and it is important to not absorb the negative energies around us. There are many ways to clear the negative energy around us and one of my favorite practices is the ritual of “smudging.”  Smudging is an ancient practice that clears low vibrations and stuck energies. Burning sacred herbs and resins is perhaps the most time-tested method for energetically cleansing a space. This involves burning sage leaves that create a powerful smoke in the air, palo santo wood, resins such as myrrh, frankincense. But what happens when you are in a public space and you can’t or aren’t allowed to light up a smudging bundle? A more practical practice to clear the air is to use smudge spray.
Simply cleanse your space of negative or stagnant energy with a few sprays provides all the benefits of sage smudging or space clearing without the smoke! Clears negative energy, promotes protection for self, home, work promotes restful sleep when smudged on sheets and pillows and the best thing is that you can have it with you everywhere you go.
How to Smudge

Any supplement, or new exercise trend will not help to reduce lower belly fat and improve digestion in a healthy way if we don’t manage our stress levels and improve our diet. Stress can affect our digestion. Digestion is essentially a parasympathetic nervous system function that requires a tremendous amount of energy. Good oxygenation in the human body is very important because, it promotes better circulation which equals to better digestion. Stress triggers high levels of the “stress hormone” cortisol which is located in the belly area. This can interfere with our digestion, cause bloating and over time fat in the lower abdomen. A clean diet high in antioxidants, quality movement, right hydration and stress management can help improve our digestion, reduce lower belly fat and improve our overall health.
 Breath
Good oxygenation in the human body is very important, because it promotes better circulation which equals to better digestion. This oxygenation doesn’t occur well during periods of stress. In recent years scientists have discovered that belly fat might be connected to high stress levels in both women and men. Stress triggers high levels of cortisol hormone. Cortisol suppresses our thyroid function and metabolism, it decreases lean muscle tissue, lowers our immunity and unfortunately promotes belly fat. Cortisol directly stores visceral fat in our abdomen covering those beautiful muscles we work so hard for. So what can we do to manage stress and reduce belly fat? “Breathe”. Breathe and be conscious when you eat, breathe and be conscious when you exercise and most important of all have a morning and evening meditation where for 5-15 minutes you close your eyes and focus on deep breaths. Believe it or not this makes a huge difference. I was always active and on top of my diet but that stubborn muffin top (lower belly fat) wouldn’t disappear until I included in my day a short morning and evening breathing meditation.  Hydration
For our hormones to work properly and to repair muscle tissue, our bodies need water. “Drinking the right amount of water at the right time” can help to flush toxins of our body, hydrate us and help with digestion and metabolism. Try not to drink more than half a cup of liquid with your meals as this will dilute the natural digestive juices. If you are experiencing digestive problems avoid drinking cold water or any other cold beverage with your food. Dehydration can negatively affect us in many ways. It decreases our memory, digestion and metabolism. Water transports toxins, cleansing without hydrating causes toxins to re-circulate. Water comes in many forms from sipping on herbal teas, cold pressed juices, smoothies, soups, fruits and vegetables. I like to start my day with a warm glass of lemon water or Teatox Fitlifetea, having a smoothie or a juice as midday snack then after 3 o’clock I may have  FitLife Energy tea or matcha green tea and as I recommend in Detox + Slim Plan have a cup of herbal tea like chamomile before sleep. Water is lost during sleep just carried on our breath.  Conscious Movement
Any form of movement is beneficial for our health as long as it’s performed with consciousness.  Are we conscious when we exercise? Are we breathing when we exercise? Are we holding our breath or taking short and fast breaths? These are the questions to ask before and during any exercise routine. Working out while stressed doesn’t help to relax the nervous system, increase the metabolism and help with high cortisol levels. A slow, long, conscious walk with deep breaths can be more beneficial for our body and increase our metabolism than running or performing a strenuous form of exercise where we are trying to catch up our breath. Yoga is a perfect from of movement that helps detoxify the lymph system, strengthens the immune system and supports digestive health.  Conscious Eating
Take no less than 20 minutes to complete a meal then wait 20 minutes to see how you feel. In Okinawa where people have the longest and healthiest life expectancy, they practice something called “hara hachi bu”. They eat until they are 80% full, then they wait for 20 minutes to see how they feel. Before each meal take a moment and concentrate at the present moment. Be mindful of your foods taste, colors and smell. Make sure you are relaxed and calm before and during your meal. How is your breath, are you breathing? When you eat mindfully, you will be able to recognize when you are starting to get full so you can stop before you overeat. How you chew your food can go a long way to help you control the amount of food you eat. Chew more than 15 times. Chewing is the only part of digestion that we have direct power to control. Enzymes in the mouth stimulate digestion and break down your food. Relaxing and eating consciously allows the body to digest effectively.  Antioxidants

Hydration

The percentage of water that makes up our bodies, ranges between 60%-85%, we are more water than any other molecule. When we sleep water is lost throughout the night just carried on our breath. For the hormones to work properly and to repair muscle tissue, our bodies need water. When we sleep our body is recovering and our metabolism is recharging for the next day. So first thing in the morning have a glass of water to rehydrate all those cells, that lost fluid during the night and to rinse out the digestive track prior to starting your day. This way you set the stage for an energetic day.
 Lack of water is the number one trigger of daytime fatigue. Thirst is often mistaken for hunger, which also leads to weight gain. Pay attention during the day when you feel hungry, maybe you are thirsty. Drink a full glass of water then wait 20-30 minutes and see how you feel. When we feel thirsty that’s a sign that we are already dehydrated. Dehydration can negatively affect us in many ways. It decreases our memory, digestion, metabolism, body temperature and blood pressure.
 Water transports toxins, cleansing without adequately hydrating causes toxins to re-circulate. Water comes in many forms from sipping on herbal teas, juices and smoothies to enjoying broth soups and eating vegetables and fruits you are contributing to deep hydration.

Το ποσοστό νερού που αποτελεί το σώμα μας κυμαίνεται μεταξύ 60%-85%, είμαστε νερό περισσότερο από οτιδήποτε άλλο μόριο. Κατά την διάρκεια της νύχτας το σώμα μας αφυδατώνεται απλά με την αναπνοή μας. Όταν κοιμόμαστε το σώμα επιδιορθώνεται και ο μεταβολισμός επαναφορτίζεται για την επόμενη μέρα. Για να λειτουργήσουν σωστά  οι ορμόνες και να επιδιορθωθούν οι ιστοί των μυών μας, το σώμα μας χρειάζεται νερό. Η έλλειψη νερού είναι υπα αριθμόν ένα αιτία κόπωσης κατά την διάρκεια της ημέρας. Επίσης συχνά η  δίψα συγχέεται με την πείνα η οποία μπορεί να οδηγήσει σε αύξηση σωματικού βάρους. Δώστε προσοχή κατά την διάρκεια της ημέρας, αν είστε πεινασμένοι ίσως είστε διψασμένοι. Πιείτε ένα ποτήρι νερό περιμένετε 20-30 λεπτά και δείτε πως αισθάνεστε.
Είναι σημαντικό να ξεκινάτε την ημέρα σας με 1-2 ποτήρια νερό για να ενυδατωθούν όλα εκείνα τα κύτταρα , που έχασαν υγρά κατά την διάρκεια της νύχτας  και να βοηθήσει το πεπτικό σύστημα για την διάρκεια της ημέρας.  Επίσης σημαντικό είναι ένα φλιτζάνι τσάι με βότανα όπως χαμομήλι, φασκόμηλο, λεβάντα η γάλα αμυγδάλου με κουρκουμα πριν κοιμηθείτε. Βοηθά στην ενυδάτωση κατά την διάρκεια της νύχτας επίσης χαλαρώνει.

Emotional Hunger vs Physical Hunger

The basic function of food is to satisfy body’s physical need for energy and nutrients. However we eat for many other reasons, whether we are hungry or not. It’s a normal part of life that from time to time we experience emotional pain sadness, anxiety and stress. The problem with this is that food can only fill the physical gap and not the emotional gap.
When you are reaching for food, try to ask yourself “am I really hungry or is it because I am nervous, upset or under stress?” You can easily distinguish between these two types of hunger. Emotional hunger is when your hunger must be satisfied immediately. Physical hunger occurs gradually and your body will give you plenty of advance notice. Physical hunger starts slowly as a mild empty stomach growling which will grow to a rumble.

Any movement in the upper and lower body initiates from the center of the body. Even the simplest every day things that we don’t even think about such pushing and pulling a heavy door going up the stairs rotate your trunk to grab something they all require a strong healthy core.

Raw Creamy Soup

If you love coconut and cilantro this creamy soup is perfect for you.
Made with raw fresh vegetables and herbs it is not only nutritious but delicious too.
It is very easy to make and it only takes 10 minutes. You can keep it in a mason jar in the fridge for 2-3 days warm it up and add it as a side dish or main plate.

2 cups Coconut milk (I make my own)
1 handful of fresh raw Cilantro
1 handful of fresh Spinach (optional)
½ avocado
½ cup chives
1 small piece ginger

You bring all raw ingredients in a blender and process until they mix well.
Depends on how creamy you prefer it you can add more or less coconut milk or even vegetable broth. Then you transfer one amount to a mason jar for later and now you can warm up in very law heat the mixture. If you don’t want to add salt you can add lemon or lime. I like to add mushrooms and chives. You can also add ½ cup sprouted or cooked quinoa or other grain or sprouted legume of your choice.

It is a healthy and nutritious choice for the whole family and it doesn’t take much time. Make sure you warm it up just a bit and you don’t bring it to a boil as this will destroy the enzymes and other nutritious ingredients. Try it and let me know how you like it looking forward to your feedback.

Below you will find 2 of my favorite Detox Drinks Lemon Water and Turmeric Tea
 Morning Drink: Lemon Water
In 1 glass of warm water, add the fresh juice of half lemon. Optional add 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar 1 shake of cayenne and 1 -2 shakes of cinnamon. Consume it first thing in the morning in empty stomach and then wait 20-30 before breakfast.
I drink Lemon Water every morning for about 4 years. It has helped me with digestion, bloating, flu prevention during winter months and has cleared my skin.
 Evening Drink: Turmeric Tea
In a small pot, in low-medium heat add 2 cups of water, 1 small part of fresh ginger root or 1 tsp ginger powder, 1 small part of fresh turmeric root or ½ tsp of turmeric powder and 1 cinnamon stick. Let them boil in low-medium heat for about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer to a cup,  add 1 shake cayenne, the fresh juice of half a lemon and optional 1 tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar and 1 tsp natural sweetener such as honey.
I drink this tea during winter months to prevent or fight a cold naturally and also helps with digestion, bloating and breaks down fat.
