The Hadestown AU has possessed me

Oh no i’m having many Hadestown thoughts specifically related to Origin

I got to see the show last night and I- Hadestown(location) is Tria city. The train!!! (Hades) Shunack tempting Toola to come with him, on the train, to (the underworld) Ragna. “Hey little songbird” Tria City. A factory city in the style of the industrial revolution!!!!! I-

Agito goes after her, even into Estoc “wait for me” “Come home with me” as parallel to “Lets go home, Toola” he even runs along the railroad track…..

Toola regrets what she’s done “Flowers” “All I wanted was to fall asleep” “I should have stayed asleep like I was forever”

This Hades has no Persephone, but he does let them go when he finally merges with the Forest. The stark opposite to his factories and foundries

BUT! They get to go home together- despite all these strong parallels, it’s not Orpheus and Eurydice because Agito and Toola escape together, they make it! “Lets go back to the city together.” “Lets go, for our future’s sake”

THE FLOWER!!!! A sign of spring!!! He takes her back out of the underworld (technically with her behind him because he’s carrying her on his back)

And then it finally rains on the desert

it's so awesome finding another origin sotp fan! almost nobody else i know seems to have seen it but i love it so much, it's one of my fav movies out there not just because of the plot but also cause the visuals are so striking, it's 100% the reason i love the visuals of broken moons, and the dragon plants are so cool!! do you have a favourite scene or visual from it? also, i hope you have a really good day! ^_^

OMG YES!!! I love it so much!!! I haven’t run into a ton of people who know it either! I usually end up introducing them to the movie if they are interested. Origin is my favorite film in general and it’s been my main special interest for at least a decade. I cosplay Agito regularly. I have something of a little shrine on my desk with Origin official merch and stuff I associate with it. As for a favorite scene i’m really torn between several scenes and genuinely can not chose:

1. Agito and Toola arguing in Ragna. there’s so much tension and layers to what they are saying and how they find themselves on opposing sides. And also Agito’s assertion of his own bodily autonomy about becoming enhanced hit me hard. Even before I knew I was trans. (Agito kinda sorta cracked my egg, let’s say. Though it’s a little more complicated than that tbh)

2. Agito coming back after his sacrifice and holding the flower his father gave him. Not only is the fruit rebirth imagery so striking it’s stuck with me since I first saw it. Agito holding his father’s flower so gently and then asking to borrow his strength is just. So tender!!! I really like his expression of masculinity. And Toola still reacting in shock when seeing his powers grow over him but has at this point accepted how he’s changed, is just happy they are both alive and is able to see a possible future again. And then they run down an erupting volcano. CINEMA

3. The opening sequence. Gives me chills every time it’s so haunting and beautiful and KOKIA’s vocals are amazing and the visuals are so intense and unlike anything i’ve seen before or since. Tree dragons destroy the moon and it is some of my favorite animation put to music.

Andor season 2 approaches so it’s about time I posted the rogue one AU

It never fails to make me cry that the part of the OST that plays during this scene is called “Your father would be proud” (so that’s the other reason Agito is Jyn in this AU)

Trans guy Agito lives rent free in my brain at all times.

I saw a post that made me think about how so many animated movies in the early 2000s had really transphobic jokes and how this also extends to anime. And idk, I’m glad that wasn’t something I had to worry about with Origin. And looking back I realized how rare that was, especially for a film from 2006.

There was no gag about Agito’s crop top or appearance in general, nothing and no one that questioned his masculinity or that he was a guy, not even from the villain. And you may be like: That sounds like the bare minimum.

Which yeah, but it definitely says something when one of the movie’s messages was about Agito’s choice to modify his body in ways that mirror testosterone, he wears a shirt that looks like a binder, and how important (reiterated multiple times by multiple characters) it was that people accept him as he is instead of trying to make him go back to “normal”
