Cat people please
People have a lot of arguments as to why their cat should be allowed to maul the local ecosystem unchecked but the two that make the least sense are âtheyâre basically wild animals/itâs natureâ and âmy cat would be bored inside the house all day so itâs cruelty/torture/some other gross exaggeration to not let it outsideâ. IâŠwhat? If you want to approach outdoor cats with the same considerations as a wild animal then congratulations, Itâs an invasive species thatâs highly injurious and therefore should definitely not be allowed to roam freely outdoors in the same way you (legally/ethically) arenât supposed to freely release non-indigenous wildlife. Cats shouldnât get a free pass that other animals donât get because of what ultimately boils down to no reason further than âI find this animal cuter than this other animalâ. And to this end if your cat gets maimed by a larger predator/killed because it hopped your neighborâs fence and got eaten by the dog/shot/hit by car etc then you have no one else to blame but yourself.
And while I can sorta kinda understand the thought process behind the first reason the second one makes even less sense. Your cat isnât bored in the house versus outside because outside brings out some kind of personal zen that can only be achieved by being outside, your cat is bored inside the house because your methods of stimulation and enrichment, if theyâre even present, arenât up to par with your catâs personal needs. If you didnât want to deal with an animalâs needs, why even get it?

DO NOT DO THIS.
This makes me so angry.
If you work in a movie theater and you do this I have no respect for you.
My younger brother is Type 1 Diabetic.
When we go to a movie theater, we always get him diet soda. If he were to get regular when we asked for diet, we would not give him the insulin he would need for it. If that happens, his blood sugar level could go so high he could go into a coma, go blind, or even die.
If somebody gave him regular soda instead of diet without telling us, that person could be responsible for a nine-year-old being killed or blinded.
Just thinking about that makes me so angry. I get scared every time we take him to a movie in case the people working there saw this picture and decide to do the same thing.
Please signal boost this so people know.

Invertebrate medicine is wild
Guys, omg. Something happened at this conference that I never ever thought would happenâI found invertebrates super interesting. And I kind of want to work with them. I didnât even know that was an option! Also Iâve always been terrified of insects and arachnids but THEYâRE SO COOL IâVE BEEN SO WRONG ABOUT THEM. Look at this:
Look at that anatomy!!! How cool is that?? Their heart is justâŠdorsal. Like why?? And you can hear it with a doppler! You can anesthetize a tarantula with isoflurane and monitor their heart rate with a doppler. That blew my mind. You can perform surgery on them and suture them with 6-0 ophthalmic suture! You can give them IV and sub q fluids. Thatâs crazy!! And look how they drink:
Apparently they just drink like that?? I dunno why but thatâs kind of cute?? They use hydrostatic pressure to move (which is crazy cool) so dehydration is actually a serious issue with them.
He also talked about scorpions, snails, shrimp, roaches, centipedes, crabs and a bunch of other animals I never would have even imagined you could treat. And honestly, I never imagined I would care enough to want to treat them but they were actually so interesting I ended up grabbing his email! Am I gonna be a spider vet?? Like thatâs the last thing I EVER thought I would want do but hey, if Iâm gonna treat exotics might as well include invertebrates, right?

an entomologist rates ant emojis

Beautiful big almond eye, realistic and full of expression as she gazes gently at you. Elbowed antennae and delicately segmented legs and body. Gorgeous pearlescent sheen like she is glowing. This ant moisturizes. This ant is round and huggable. This ant is a star. 11/10.

Beautifully detailed, lifelike pose but with an unexpected neck and odd antennae, perhaps scared straight. Her eyes suggest she has seen things. Her expression confirms she has seen too much. She is haunted and I want to know more. 7/10.

Floppy antenna, pointy muppet face, oddly posed legs. What is she? She has no waist. May be she is some kind of bee in disguise? I find her unsettling. 3/10.

This ant has an unexplained, double-jointed thorax, and no evidence of a waist. Her four-footed pose suggests that she a centaur rather than an ant. Centaur ants would be cool. Iâm not sure what was intended here. 2/10.

Good first impression, kind of bland in the details. This ant has no particular waist to speak of, floppy rather than elbowed antennae, and an inexpressive face. Her color scheme is soft and hazy. I like the sharp angles of her stylishly sophisticated legs. This ant may not know quite were she is going, but she knows how she is getting there. 6/10.

Were you even trying. 0/10

Gasp! This ant is elegant. This ant has a beautiful tapered thorax, a segmented abdomen, alert, elbowed antennae, and a light-footed pose. This antâs face suggests curiosity and a desire to explore the world. This ant inspires me. I want to be like her. 10/10

3-legged, waistless centaur-ant with strange, limp antennae and a beak. I donât know what this is? It kind of reminds me of a Hork-Bajir. 1/10, not an ant.

This ant⊠makes me sad. All of her legs are broken. The MS Paint art style and gradient abuse convey distress. She has a duck beak. Despite this, her expression suggests perseverance and determined cheerfulness. I want this ant to have a better life. I am rooting for her. 3/10

This ant is a bold and challenging mixture of photorealism and caricature. She is broad and low-built and seems very sturdy. She looks like she would help you move. This ant is a dependable friend. 9/10

A picture of an ant from a childrenâs book. She is wearing little boots. This ant is wrong in every way, and yet I canât stay mad at her. 7/10

An interesting, top-down view of an ant; her legs are positioned with slightly jarring symmetry. Nevertheless, her overall impression is that of a graceful, stylized design, like a pictograph. She is suitable for adorning fine garments and jewelry or perhaps gracing the walls of a tiny ant church. I like this minimalist ant. 8/10.

This is a termite. -10/10

mermaids would have to be dark-skinned and chubby to survive in the oceanÂ
water isnt a great means of protecting oneself from the sun theyd have to be very dark if they were shallow mermaids and they didnt want to be constantly sunburnt and they may be paler if they lived deeper in the water but theyd have to be buff and/or chubby as hell to resist the water pressure and cold of the deep sea
what im saying is pale-ass white skinny mermaids are just unrealistic

The amount of times I could have been that white girl in the horror movie could honestly be a movie in itself and itâs honestly a waste that my entire life isnât constantly recorded on film because it would be HILARIOUS

Just as I answered in a previous ask, majority of my works included experimenting so this is probably far from being the actual right way to achieve DR style but itâs what I did so ahaha sorry :v
I used Sai.
<âSoft line brushâFlat brushâAirbrushâEraserâ>
Soft line- Used for sketching, colouring, painting. Youâll need to be familiar with the pressure sensitivity when blending so better get a feel for when to press hard to get solid colours. Adjust the min size depending on where youâre using it, eg. at 0 for fine lines.
Flat brush- The whooshy effect lines. Again, adjust min size to your preference; set to 0 to get the pointy flick stroke.
Airbrush- Didnât use it on John but tried on Jane. Mostly on her face to give it that glowing kinda look. Else, mostly used for minor adjustments of colours and extra blending.
Eraser- Self explanatory, adjust density to fit your needs. 20% then stroke a couple of times to get the whispy lines. I Used 80-90% for normal erasures
After sketching, added rough shading, then the base colours on a different layer underneath the sketch. I just flattened it afterwards and worked on one layer all through out.
I went and redid a lot of parts as I progressed.
For after effects, moved it to photoshop: duplicated the whole thing -> gaussian blur -> set blur layer to linear burn at 25% opacity
Also added a pattern overlay on the original layer: greyscale paper (kraft paper) -> Overlay at 45%

Lately Iâve been seeing a lot of decoden and polymer clay questions about what to use to as a gloss/glaze. Almost every time the first response is âClear nail polish, duh!â.
This needs to stop if people want to be creating quality items. Sometimes Iâm afraid to buy handmade things for fear that they have been sealed with clear nail polish and they will deteriorate over time. I want to buy things that will last!
