Okay big brain energy time: Fatal Flaws edition

(I should be writing an essay so please shout at me for not doing that but also read this and tell me your thoughts first)

What if the demigod's fatal flaws were things they would never be able to achieve? I don't mean like a demigods fatal flaw is that they will never achieve their life goal. I mean like their fatal flaw is a flaw because they never have it.

Let me break this down:

Percy's fatal flaw is loyalty which means in canon that he is loyal to a fault. But what if his fatal flaw is loyalty and that means he isn't loyal to anyone? How would that play out?

Percy who sides with Luke because he sees the power, not because he owes Luke for helping him at camp? Percy who falls into Tartarus with Annabeth because he loves her, not because he is loyal? Percy who kills Bob instead of befriending him in tartarus because he has no loyalty towards the Titan that saved his life? Percy who doesn't go with Hazel and Frank on the quest to Alaska because they saved his life and they asked him but because he has nothing better to do while he waits for Annabeth to find him? Percy who bloodbends despite Annabeth's fear because sometimes love is not enough to stop you? Percy who sides with power of friendship because he gains more that way? Percy who accepts being one of the Seven because he loves his friends, not because he feels it is his duty? Percy who does not warn strangers of the dangers he sees coming because what does he owe them? Percy who accepts godhood because it is new and exciting and he doesnt believe anyone needs him as a mortal? Percy Jackson cannot be loyal to anyone. His values align with his mood not his character. Percy who has no allegiance to any one side because he bases his decisions on what will serve him best. One day friendship is not enough. He must make the decision between himself and others. Many people do not make it out of that deal alive.

Annabeth Chase doesn't have pride in anything or anyone. She is brutal in a way that suggests she will never be satisfied. She is her mother in so many regards. Annabeth who doesn't want to hear the sirens, she wants to join them? Annabeth who doesn't want to rebuild Olympus, what for they never did anything for her? Annabeth who will criticize the gods for everything they should be and is unafraid to watch her death because of it? Annabeth who does not congratulate her friends on their achievements because it is expected? Annabeth who does not even acknowledge her own? Annabeth Chase is not prideful. She knows everyone's flaws and especially her own. She uses them to needle people. She has no pride. She has honesty. It will kill them all.

Nico di Angelo who cannot hold a grudge to save his life. Nico forgives and forgets and it is dangerous because the world is not so easily persuaded? Nico says it doesn't matter that Percy didn't return Bianca safe and sound? Nico now lives with the trauma of losing his only family memeber and turns that blame on himself? Nico who does favors and gets nothing in return because he doesn't know how to ask for it and he cannot hold it against them to not suggest? Nico who gives and gives and gives until he is gone? Nico di Angelo cannot hold a grudge. So he gives himself up to the world who can and when he disappears into whispers of smoke it is done with harbored guilt and his own demise.

Not at all friendly reminder, a very mean reminder actually, that while we should begin criticizing the Biden administration soon, making fun of Biden’s stutter still isn’t cool. We’ve gone over this. He doesn’t have dementia, he’s not ‘sleepy’, he’s got a damn speech impediment and is trying to accommodate for it (and the times where he genuinely forgets something or fucks up— come on, everybody does it sometimes.), and obviously out right making fun of it is even shittier. You’re no less of an asshole than the conservatives who were just mocking him for it. It’s not a woke leftist take just admit you don’t care about how these remarks could effect others who stutter and go.
