What’s next?

I am definitely going to keep working on my cinematography I feel as though I have learnt a lot over the course of this project and it’s really excited me. I’ll see what next semester brings in terms of what I want to specialize in but over Summer I’m definitely going to pursue more DoP roles!

The Crit Feedback

The Crit was rough. Although we put so much effort into the film it did not seem to pay off. Obviously, we have taken the criticism well and will work on what has been said in our next films.

in terms of cinematography, I definitely need to work on my colour grading skills and working with light, the fewer inconsistencies occur the easier I make it for myself.

As well as this it was also mentioned that the camera compositions were nice but there didn't seem to be much thought in them. I disagree with this as I put a lot of effort into planning the shots. However, I definitely need to think about the effect a shot has and what it means when planning, not that I didn’t do this, but this needs to be the main reason I decide on a specific shot. 

Overall, the crit wasn’t great but I am proud of the work I have done and having tried out a new and exciting role.

Colour Grade

In terms of the colour grade I wanted to keep it quite natural, however, the lighting inconsistency previously mentioned proved to be a little more difficult than I first thought.

As well as this during the edit, the entire sequence ended up being corrupt, therefore I only had 3 days to actually complete the colour grade which obviously was not ideal. After the crit, I would definitely like to go back and re-grade the film.

Day 3 Shoot

Day 3 was probably the most stressful day due to time constraints and location changes. When we arrived at the park there was work going on which completely ruined the sound quality so we had to move from that location. This was quickly sorted so we then arrived back at the flat to shoot, again this went fairly well, it was exactly the same location as our taster so we knew what to deal with. wrapping the shoot went well and now I’m excited to get onto the colour grade.

Day 2 Shoot

Day 2 was really enjoyable, we were at our most exciting location which was the fishkeeper. It was very challenging to light the scene well and sound did prove to be an issue but overall I feel as though the footage we got from the aquarium was really interesting and really nice. Again we finished behind schedule and had a great time on set.

Day 1 Shoot

The first day of shooting was the care home, I felt this went fairly well, everything was done on time and it was an organised shoot even due to the time constraints of having an actress only for a few hours. 

There were some issues with lighting consistency but these should be able to be sorted out during colour correction.

Pre-Shoot Meeting

During our pre-shoot meeting, we went over our storyboards and shot plans and made sure this was the best way to capture the narrative. 

In terms of my production, I have worked on storyboards and shot plans and help block some of the scenes. Overall I feel really prepared and excited for the shoot!
