Hearing my finished products often makes me dishes a blow at my confidence, mastering seems to require much more experience than i currently have. However, seeing other peoples interpretations on mastering rap and Hip-Hop makes me feel like, my mastering is my own interpretation. If it ain’t broke don't fix it, right?

At last! a video that helped me with my balancing. In my last song I've included many instruments, balancing them at times feels like its beyond what my ears are capable of. With a lot of trial and error, I feel like i can achieve the balance I'm hoping for.

Mastering is always a struggle, hip hop in particular I’m at a loss with at this mastering stage. My mistake is a lack of knowledge with plug-ins and mastering techniques.

As I'm mixing my tracks, i have the tendency to panic and feel like I'm forgetting something. Ive decided to create a type of schedule or work rota when mixing. Starting with volume I’ll gradually mix through EQ, compression, panning and depth in order.

as i enter the late stages of mixing, i thought reading this page would be a huge mistake. Seeing where people go wrong has helped me alter my mixing for the better. Mixing to a professional level is proving to be a serious challenge.

I’m having quite a bit of trouble when layering a drum pattern, sometimes its refreshing to see how other people have constructed them.

This man Jonathan Wyner has gave me a few ideas for my mastering process. Although that seems to be a long way off. Metering is something I've never really invested my time into, seems its about time i do!

By adding a distortion plug-in onto a snare, you can give it texture and saturation with distorting the sound?!

Chord Progression
I’ve played with some chords and now have a base for all four songs in which i can work upon. My Four tracks are called ‘Deadbeat’, ‘Put together’, ‘Simple’ and ‘Ain’t love’. I have ideas and techniques il add later on, but now i want to progress at an effective pace.

Instrumentals are the road I'm going to travel down. I may add some “oohs” and “aahs”, but I’ve decided all four of my tracks are going to be instrumentals. I had a gander on some videos posted on YouTube and came across this track. I will be aiming to fall into the same category as this.

Organisation
After taking a week off, I’ve used this time to carefully plan out my songs instead of diving in head first and creating a mess. I’ve realised after some procrastination, that i’m rushing everything, i need to take my time. I’ve decided to work solely on the arrangement of my pieces. I was making the rookie error of mixing halfway through because i didn’t like the sound of things. Things will now change. I’ve stripped my first two songs ‘Deadbeat’ and ‘Put together’ of their effects like reverb and pan, allowing me to focus primarily on arrangement. I’ll first arrange 4 songs, relating to influences and researching studio techniques to ultimately achieve the sounds i want in my songs. All it takes is a touch of organisation!
