i'm spiraling right now. i messed up, in my opinion, pretty bad at work today. i was cleaning out our one kettle at work today and to clean it we have to boil water in the one component then dump it into a bucket. i guess i didn't have the bucket lined up correctly to pour it out and some of it spilled. sort of into where we sift our popcorn, then leaked out of the side and front of the machine. there is a lip to keep popcorn in and then a glass backing, which is where it was leaking from. i cleaned up the spill almost immediately but it came down the back and was leaking onto the floor. there was a big puddle underneath the machine but it got stuck where the floor is low. i'm just so scared by spilling some water i fried the wiring.

it was only my second time cleaning it and i have never been shown how to, only told or given brief instructions. i'm not sure where the electrical components are in the kettle so i don't know if the water got into it or not but i'm freaking out. the kettle gets hot enough to where i think all the water should evaporate? then again if the water messed with the circuits then i am the one who broke it.

i have to think that to some extent that someone else has done this and that it will be okay. after i cleaned up i had to use the spinning option to put the kettle back together. by doing that i pushed a button and it worked so at least that bit of the wiring is fine. plus it wasn't the entire bucket of water that spilled but maybe 1/4? that would be about 4 cups of water without any evaporation from it boiling. most of it got on the floor so maybe it'll be okay. obviously the machine isn't waterproof but a little water wont kill it right? the machine is stainless steel and made for food so it has to be resistant enough to withstand something like this happening? we've had oil leak before and it didn't fry the machine so maybe the wiring is above where the water spilled? our maintenance guy will be in tomorrow as he always is but he already has so much going on to fix and i don't want to be the reason why he has to do more work. to be down a popcorn kettle is just inconvenient when the other ones we have don't work as well as we would like.

i know i messed up but i don't want to be blamed for ruining an expensive machine. i don't want to be the reason we are struggling. i'm just scared. i needed to type this out to help rationalize what happened. if anything is wrong i'm sure my manager will tell me. not that anyone cares but if anything bad happens i'll update, mostly for my own sanity.
