US Marine finished the marathon on his knees
Today, while I was scrolling on my Facebook app, I saw a video posted two days ago by BBC News. In that video, there was a man who crawled to the finish of the Boston Marathon in honour of his three fallen comrades even though his legs locked after running 22 miles.
I am glad that BBC News decided to share it on their Facebook page as it shows a real hero who did not give up despite all the difficulties. Micah Herndon was racing in honour of his comrades who died in Afghanistan in 2010, namely Juarez, Hamer and Ballard. The video reached over 1.2 million views in less than 2 days and it was shared over 3500 times. The statistics prove that Facebook users were really amazed by what the US marine did.
The video has subtitles, which is a huge advantage as users may watch the video without a sound. It really catches people’s attention because it has a catchy description above it. Its duration is 50 seconds which is not that long and users probably watch the whole video.
What is more, it contains a short interview with a hero in which he says why he decided to run a Boston Marathon. Also, there is an extreme close-up shot on his tattoo. I think this shot is appropriate as it presents the importance of the tattoo. It also
shows that those three soldiers might be quite important for Micah Herndon.
BBC News’ video has 1,221 comments where people express their feelings towards the US marine. Most of the comment shows support and praise, Facebook users seem to be proud and amazed by Herndon’s decision. Users’ reactions showed me how many people care about what is happening in Afghanistan.
