My 13 year old cousin came back from a date with her boyfriend and said, "I can't wait to grow up and spend sunday afternoons with him." At first, I wanted to laugh (after all they're just 13), but I remember being 13 and having the world in my hands. I remember getting excited to talk to someone about my dreams and wishes, and how happy these daydreams and fantasies made me. There's this innocence you can only have at 13 and the world rises and falls and crashes and burns every year... until you do not think about quiet sunday afternoons.

So I asked her about the date and heard her giggle about bubblegum flavored ice cream, and how much she loves this little life. I think she makes me love it too.

An Essay about Technology

The global domination of technology has transformed the lives of those living in the 21st century. The rise of inventions made its way to commercial trading, giving revolutionary devices, concepts, and other innovations a way to be jointly introduced. The steady rise in recognition of these products gave birth to the standardized machine-driven lifestyle of the current times—where manual labors have fallen into the hands of devices and machines that perform distinct functions, where information is easily gathered, where people rely on technology so much that life is unimaginable with the absence of it.

Today, workplace and academies are both heavily influenced by the emergence of technology in replacing traditional teaching and working materials. Handwritten materials are becoming much more uncommon, as printed and digital mediums and programs are move heavily utilized. Furthermore, one of the evident changes in practice is the usage of tablets as replacement for books, and using programs such as PowerPoint as supplementary visual support in teaching, specifically during discussions, lectures, meetings, and other activities that involves presentation. On the other hand, it has taken over the lifestyle of people in the 21st century that it's expected to help in finishing chores from dishwashing and sweeping the floor up to having homebots to cover almost every chore there is to perform. It has touched our lives so much that it covers most of our time—staring at the screens of our mobile phones and desktop computers, watching shows in the television connected to the internet, and so on. The domination of technology paved way for numerous work possibilities. It has opened doors for digital media to flourish, and surfaced college programs inclined with information science and technology, as well as multimedia arts. The way it had changed the lifestyle of the people has also impacted the main focus and interests of the younger generation. With the rise of the demand, careers inclined with science and engineering have been thriving, making jobs related to these fields become the most sought-after of this generation.

Despite giving more job options, technology has also affected certain careers, particularly in smaller scales, become obsolete. The production and access to machineries and advanced technology has replaced certain manual jobs, and has caused job of workers in the currently less demanding fields slip. One of the concrete examples of this is the now normalized preference of people in using electronic dishwasher and washing machine over laying for manual labor of tradition dishwashing and laundry cleaning. The price comparison appears as no problem to them as long as convenience is given. The replacement of books as reference into tables with e-books also have the factor of paying much more than traditional. However, as I repeat, in this current technology-dominated world, people tend to rely on whatever new the market has to offer.

Computers and its systems have been developing way more advanced, making some even more capable than that of its inspiration, human beings. Technology has given us access to formerly deemed impossible experiences and possibilities, and therefore can also give or be the reason for any possible discord or friction in humankind. This dependence on technology has been making things a lot easier for us. However, it just undeniable that with excessive dependence comes the conflicts we can face in the future.
