Day 5 of 5: Going paperless 🍃📲
This college, I decided to invest on a tablet so that I can switch to digital note-taking. Ever since, studying is most efficient for me whenever I take notes. With this, I realized just how much paper is wasted since I do not really get to reuse the papers that I used up for my notes. With digital notes, it does not generate waste and can even be easily shared and collaborated on without the need for physical printing or mailing, reducing resource-intensive processes. With this, digital notes are often stored in the cloud or on devices, which can be more convenient to modify or edit compared to physical notes, thus reducing the need for replacements. Moreover, paper production involves chemicals and bleaching processes that can harm the environment. On the other hand, digital note-taking avoids these chemical-related environmental issues. Ultimately, creating and distributing physical notebooks or papers consume energy and resources but with digital note-taking, such impacts are reduced, as it primarily requires energy for electronic devices.

Day 4 of 5: Lessen carbon footprint 🚆🚏
Whenever I have to go to somewhere, particularly when it is not just “walking distance” from our place, I always choose to ride a public transportation. Through this, I am able to lessen the amount of carbon emissions and even take a rest while I am on the way. Moreover, an individual is definitely a more mindful commuter by using alternative modes of transportation such as biking, carpooling, and using public transportation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Aside from the fact that it is a fun experience, this practice is also good for your health and will also help you save money. Commuting might be tiring and time-consuming but it just takes a little effort to prepare earlier so that you can get to where you are headed to, at a certain time. Above all, one will eventually realize the positive impact that commuting has on our environment, instead of using a private car especially if you are alone or maybe one ride away from your destination. Hopefully, people will turn more to commuting given that there are various modes of transportation that they can choose from, whichever is more accessible.

Day 3 of 5: Prepare home-cooked meals 🍽️
Buying food outside can result to a lot of packaging and plastic waste produced in a day. With this, I limit myself from ordering food. Instead, make it a habit to always cook whatever we have at home— this simple and cost-efficient practice is beneficial in maintaining good health, protecting the environment, and saving money. Learning to refuse and saying “no” to friends who ask you to come with them to eat outdoors is a great way to start. Additionally, you can just invite them over to your place to eat home-cooked food and encourage them to bring their own packed lunch at school. Certainly, preparing your own food ends up being a lot cheaper than buying it at restaurants or cafeterias.

Day 2 of 5: Walking to and from school 👣
Daily transit from our homes to our schools or workplaces contribute to an increase in carbon emissions and worsening air pollution, as most transportation options rely heavily on petroleum. With this, I purposely chose a place to stay near the school that I go to. Since it is only walking distance, I don’t have to use any vehicle to get to school everyday. Although it takes up about 12-15 minutes of my time, I still choose to walk because it is healthier and a lot more sustainable. Undeniably, it might be tiring but every time you think about the consequences of your actions more, walking to school eventually becomes a habit. Below, the pictures depicted is my route whenever I walk to and from school.

Day 1 of 5: Switch to reusable tumblers🥤
Ever since I started first grade, I have already been using reusable bottles in school instead of buying plastic water bottles every break and lunch time. Before, I would only use them for school but now, I bring my tumbler with me almost everywhere I go. This flask has been with me since 12th grade and I just love seeing my friends switch to reusable tumblers as well, after encouraging them to do so. Aside from the fact that it keeps your water cold throughout the day, it definitely helps reduce plastics. I mean, just imagine how much plastic is lessened by a single person with reusable tumbler and how much more can we help the environment if every single one of us will switch to sustainable bottles. In my case, I have been using a reusable bottle for several years now and I believe it is one of my best practices in going zero waste.
