“She told you about it?” Was Spencer’s question, his eyes wide. His jaw fell slack a moment later, both out of surprise and feeling speechless, though he nodded and followed her. After a long moment, he added, “I hadn’t thought of Vincent thinking that. Hopefully he won’t kill me or I’ll miss out on getting to know you better.” Though the man was the least of his worries at the moment when death was lunging at them every second. Right now, however, he was focused on Ash, his eyes drifting down her body as she walked in front of him before coming right back up a second later. “Aren’t they going to disapprove if they see you hanging out with me?”
“She mentioned it in passing. Something about watching for perverts when I bathe in the river.” Chuckling she shrugged. “Kidding. But she did grumble about it.” She was quiet as she led the way, nearly choking on her own laughter. “How do you not think about Vincent? He’s the bigger of the two! I guess we should make the most of time.” She stopped at it question. Turning to face him she raised an eyebrow. “They’re my best friends not my parents. Vince tells me when he gets a bad vibe and I usually listen but he hasn’t said anything about you so they can disapprove all they like. How do you like that answer?”

Spencer laughed softly, his shoulders coming up in a shrug. “It’s complicated, but she thought when I said watch, it meant watching them and not for zombies. So… yanno. I don’t know, I think I’m already marked down as a pervert and there won’t be any changing that.”
As he explained she bit her lip, her eyes twinkling. “So that was you.” She finally said, chuckling softly. “Don’t worry, being a pervert isn’t all that bad. Besides, as long as Vince doesn’t think you were watching them you’re perfectly safe.” She nudged his leg with her hip. “C’mon. I’m starving so why don’t we grab lunch while I put tiny tot down for a nap.”

Spencer looked up at her. “Sure, I mean, as long as Pippa doesn’t look at me like I’m a pervert… because I swear, I was not watching them have sex. Before, you know, she tells you otherwise. I really wasn’t.” He let out a nervous chuckle. “I was keeping watch for zombies… not anything else.”
Ash raised an eyebrow, cocking her head to the side slightly. “Part of me wants to ask, but honestly I’m just gonna leave that one alone and take your word for it.” She took Aspen, running her fingers through the light blonde hair on her daughters head and smiled. “Pippa isn’t so bad once you get to know her. She’s done so much for me, she’s just a little walled at first. You gotta give her time.”

She couldn’t help the smile on her face as he got quiet, or the way her heart pounded. Spencer was good looking, and he was kind. Even in the apocalypse, apparently crushes happened. She looked at him and laughed. “You can ride with us, if you want to that is. We have the room and..well yeah.” She trailed off, trying hard not to blush.
“I…” He started but was interrupted as she pressed a kiss to his cheek. It left him speechless for the longest moment and he couldn’t only watch her as she worked on the last bags. “I.. uh, yeah it’s… it’s really nothing.” He concentrated on Aspen, pretty sure he was acting like a fuckin’ teenager when it was only a kiss on his cheek that had him stuttering.

spencerwyatt!:
“She does,” He agreed. The toddler in his arms, all giggles and smiles, deserved better than some asshole that ran away on them. Even if he might be dead now, he missed out on the chance of keeping a great girl and raising his child. “Don’t thank me for that, I’m just… a natural.” Spencer laughed quietly.
Ash watched him a smile on her face. Hearing Aspen with someone else that wasn’t her, Pippa, or Vince soothed her heart in a big way. “That’s exactly why I should thank you. You’re a natural and you don’t have to be like this with her, but you are. And you helped me move this stuff.” She leaned over, pressing a kiss to his cheek, before pushing herself from the tailgate of the truck and grabbing one of the last bags.

“Many other toddlers would disagree with you if you had a chance to talk to them.” He replied, looking down at Aspen as she chewed happily on the cold rag. Her big eyes lit up as a smile spread over her features, making Vince chuckle quietly. “Pippa and I will get our sleep, we just have to keep Aspen calm, you just need to do as I say—I’m older than you for a reason. Because otherwise you wouldn’t listen to me at all.”
“You don’t know that. It’s just because you’re quite a big man. Aspen has known you from birth though. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you.” She told him quietly, looking up from the pillow. She furrowed her brow and stuck her tongue out at him as he stood in the doorway. “Fine, but you’re right. I wouldn’t listen because I’d be the one to boss you around. It’s actually really unfair.” She told him, grabbing the tiny stuffed bear by her head and throwing it at his head.

“You’re better off without him anyway.” Spencer smiled, nudging at her with his elbow gently. He didn’t understand people most of the time, taking what they wanted and then leaving others hanging like they meant nothing. His last girlfriend did exactly that, except there was no baby between them. “Do you have one? If not, we could find one on the next run.” He ended up chuckling when Aspen tried to tilt herself back but he wasn’t supporting her then. “Scary?” He asked, helping her rock back this time.
“I know I am. Aspen deserves better.” She replied, grinning at him. Ash was more than grateful for the way Spencer was with her and Aspen. he was sweet and easy to talk to; the kind of guy she should have been going for instead of married ones. “I do, but since we’re on the brink of moving I’ve got it packed up. She likes you nearly as fast as she did Vince.” She told him, laughing at her tiny daughter and the giggles coming from her. “Thank you, for being so good with her. It...it’s nice to see.”

Vincent chuckled under his breath, shaking his head at Ash. “She’s the only baby I’ve had experience with, I guess she likes me.” He nudged her gently. Ash was like his sister, which made Aspen his niece and if that said anything, he loved and cared for her like family. For both of them.
“I insist, go to sleep. I’ll take her to the room with Pip and take care of her while you rest.” He pushed, already standing up and turning towards her. “Just let us help and rest. You’ll thank me in the morning, for now, do as I said, deal?”
Ash rolled her eyes. “You’re just a natural. She loves you, and I’m glad. it’s important for her to have a strong bond with her uncle.” She told him, smiling softly. He’d been her family for nearly nine years, long before Aspen had ever come into the world and he’d been there for her through it all.
She watched him stand up and sighed. “Vince..Pip needs her sleep too. If she gets too fussy please just bring her to me and I’ll be okay.” She curled onto the bed, and looked up at him. “I hate that you’re older than me, I can’t even tell you not to tell me what to do.”

“Fine… but only because your baby’s adorable.”

“you’re right, it isn’t hard.” Ash agreed, before gesturing. “What is hard is when I have a screaming two year old and you aren’t here to ask so I had to make a decision. I’m sorry, but I didn’t need her attracting Z’s.”
“I don’t mind sharing, but what’s so hard about saying: “Hey, Mini, can I borrow your soap please?” She gestured with her hands towards her things. “Let me tell you, nothing, nothing is! How would you feel if I went through your things?”

“Yep. It was the most gentle on my daughter and all that was left here. Get over it, we all share.”
“Let me get this straight, you took my soap without my permission and expect me to be okay about it???”

“you have one too.” She told her, before shaking her head. “I can definitely deal with that if it means we get him in that collar.” She chuckled. “Wonder what he would say if he could hear this conversation.”
“At least you have a list at all,” she smirked. “As long as you don’t mind getting a look at what’s under this towel, I think I can distract him fairly well.”

“It’s one of a short list of good qualities.” She quipped and giggled. “I’m gonna have to get a running start, you think you can distract him long enough for me to get him down?”
“Yeah, I know you do and that’s one of the things that I love about you.” A barely there smile was on her face then, thinking both about how she knew that Vincent would be okay if something did happen to her, not that she was going to let it. “That sounds like a good idea. You jump him and I’ll get it around his neck when he’s distracted.”

“I always worry about Aspen, but I have a large heart, which means I can worry about extra people.” She teased, before laughing with Pippa’s next statement. “Wait til he goes to sleep, or better yet, I’ll help.”
“And brushing off your and Vince’s worry is what I do because it’s better served on those who need it like Aspen. And Sadie. Those two need it more than me.” Pippa threw back her head to laugh. “I’m working up to it but you know how he is, every time I try to get close and put it around his neck, he’s distracting me.”

Ash followed, her hands in her pockets. “I know that, but It doesn’t make me stop worrying. I’m a mom, pip. It’s what I do.” She shuffled her foot and gave a small smile. “Vince wearing that dog collar yet?”
“I’d appreciate it.” She felt fine now, but knew that it was only a matter of time where she’d be feeling sick again as she started back towards where the tents were pitched. “There’s no reason to add more worry to him on top of what he’s already worried about everything else. And it’s not as bad as it was.. I’m probably getting over it as we speak.”

“I’ll let it slide, if that’s good enough for you.” Ash compromised, before tugged at the strands of her hair. “Alright, I guess I should rescue Spencer from Aspen, poor guy’s had her for about an hour now.”
“There’s nothing really wrong with me. Is that good enough for you to believe?” She might not know exactly what was wrong or why, but with the lack of medicine, she knew that it would take time, not that it helped with the worry from both her and Vince. “Now let’s move because I’m ready to go lay down.”

“Alright doom and gloom.” She told Pippa, tapping her lightly with her fist. “That wasn’t what I meant, but yes. I would watch out for Vince and for you too, so honestly how bout we just leave it at, if something is really wrong with you, please tell Vince.”
Pippa licked her lips, making sure that she was looking anywhere but at Ash while the other spoke because she knew that the other woman was right but it didn’t make it any easier to swallow. “Just like I know that you will take good care of him if something were to happen to me,” she added softly.
