Hi everyone! I made this throwaway so no one can link my reblog to the actual event and because I did leave some details out, to be absolutely fair.
How did their boss get involved? Their boss was either hosting or attending the event. I didn't ask for clarification. They were in one of those private rooms and my boyfriend and I were on the...general floor? I'm not in the restaurant business, I don't know what it's called, basically the place where anyone can get seated or reserve a table.
What exactly went down?
I'm gonna put this under a cut.
So I ran into Selena as I was leaving the restroom and she was coming out of the private room for...some reason, I didn't ask. We were both pretty surprised to see each other, but she was the one who shrieked. I was like "Selena?" and she was like "you're-you can't be [My Name], she's dead!" way too loudly.
What I should have done is leave immediately. Instead, I kind of stared at her for a second and said "...I moved, Selena. Nice to see you, too." And then I started to leave because I had a date to get back to with an unpleasant but hopefully funny anecdote.
So of course she grabs my wrist to stop me leaving and Tristan barges in because the door to the private room was still open. In my fucking defense, he used to be blond, so I didn't recognize him. Also in my defense, I had boyfriends on the brain since I was trying to get back to mine. I will admit I shouldn't have made any assumptions and especially shouldn't have asked Selena if he was her boyfriend. The looks on their faces were priceless, but it was a genuine question, so I was more embarrassed than amused.
Tristan asked me if I recognized him and I was like "...no?" because I didn't. I hadn't seen him in ten years, his hair color changed, and I barely knew him in the first place! Selena was my best friend for years and also looks a lot like her mom did, so of course I recognized her! And then I followed it up with "Let go of my wrist, Selena" because I was honestly more concerned about that.
Yeah so he got pretty upset and was like "It's me, Tristan!" I squinted at him for a second and was like "oh hey, nice to see you. Selena, let go."
And that was when my boyfriend entered the scene. He's got a really deep voice and knows how to project it, so when he backed up my "let go," both their heads snapped towards him. Selena loosened her grip, probably on accident because she tried to grab my wrist again after I'd gotten it away, but I got out of her grasp and walked over to my boyfriend.
I was like "hey babe, sorry for taking so long" and he was like "not your fault, who're they?" and I was like "we used to go to high school together" while trying to tug him away because I didn't want to stick around long enough for actual introductions. Selena pretty much yelped that we were best friends and Tristan actually and literally said, I am not joking, that I was the love of his life.
My jaw actually dropped, I'm not kidding. I was like "first of all, you were the one who said we weren't friends ten years ago, Selena. Second of all, Tristan, what the fuck?" I don't think he actually meant to say that because he started spluttering and turned kinda red, but I was embarrassed and angry, so I followed that up with "we never even went on a fucking date? What's wrong with you?!" But also, who the fuck says that in these circumstances?
So that was when another guy poked his head out like "is everything all right out here?" They were like "everything's fine!" really fast. I don't think he believed them, because he turned to us like "what's going on here?"
"Your friends could use some manners," I snapped, because I'd been having a great night before all this happened. The guy raised his eyebrow and was like "I'll have a word with my employees" and I was like "...your what?"
I didn't know he was their fucking boss okay
Anyway they looked at me like I'd slapped them before going back inside. It killed the mood, honestly, so my boyfriend talked the waiters into letting us take some stuff to go and we finished the date at my place. It was a nice restaurant, too. I felt bad that my drama ruined our date.
Looking back, there were definitely places where I could have been less rude, and if I hadn't ghosted them I don't think either of them would have reacted so dramatically to seeing me again, so with all these details, AITA?
AITA for ghosting a guy I never dated and also my ex-best friend?
I and everyone I’m about to talk about are currently 25. About ten years ago, I was best friends with Selena and Tristan was our classmate. They dated for like three weeks and had a nasty breakup. After that, Tristan and I were assigned as part of a group project together. He swears he fell in love with me during the project. I had no idea, but it does explain why Selena got so angry with me, especially since I kept telling her that I didn’t actually want to be on his team for the project to try to de-escalate the fight. The fight got bad enough that Selena told me we were no longer friends, refused to take my calls, and would close the door on my face if I tried to visit. I was freaking out because I had no idea what went so wrong.
Here’s where I may be TA. My dad got a job transfer and we needed to move. Selena was pretty much my only friend and, in hindsight, Tristan was trying to talk to me but I wasn’t interested in talking to him, so I didn’t tell anyone I was moving to a different state.
I didn’t see either of them again until last month, because I was on a date at the same restaurant Selena and Tristan were attending a company dinner. They freaked out and it was really embarrassing, like my boyfriend and their boss got involved embarrassing. Probably wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t ghosted them, so AITA?
What are these acronyms?
#don't ask me what happened afterwards with them I haven't seen them since#selena did try to friend me on FB and I rejected it and blocked her#I'm genuinely praying neither of them are on tumblr#and I'm really hoping I didn't get them in actual trouble with their boss
