Due to continuing engineering work in the tunnel decided to catch to 6.00 am FlixBus to Chamonix before our transfer to Geneva and the flight home.

Rest day. Good breakfast at Grand Hotel Royal E Golf and a gentle stroll and trip to the Alpine Botanical Garden of Saussurea beside the Pavilion stop of the Skyway Cable Car. The highest botanical garden in Europe at 2173 metres and contains typical alpine flora of Mont Blanc or Monte Bianco. Open only from June to September due to altitude. The name comes from Benedict de Saussure who made the first known ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786.

Race Day UTMB ETC Experience Trail Courmayeur 15km race with 1200 m of elevation gain in the heart of the Italian Alps. The web site warns - ‘Be careful, short format does not always mean simple format. In trail running we often talk of ‘kilometre effort’ considering both the distance and elevation gain to calculate the perceived distance. The km effort is calculated by adding 1 km to the race distance for every 100 metres of elevation gain. The ETC is therefore 27 km effort of wonder, sharing and challenging your limits’.
